Title: Decent
Post by: kenCode on November 20, 2015, 06:06:50 pm
I'm always looking for good investments.

Does Decent have any holes in their business model that you can see?

Lack of DPOS?
Good Writers can't count on a regular income?
No Editors, or possibly, Editors and Publishers that could be co-opted?
They want to charge for subscriptions to pay the bills?
Will they not commit articles for eternal archival? Who makes those decisions?

I LONG for the day we get decentralized news from trusted sources.

It's a long shot IMO. Writing isn't particularly lucrative, and it takes a lot of creativity (i.e. clickbait, sponsored stories, banners, & video ads :p) to turn a profit. Paywalls have worked for some, but they're a hard sell, especially for the long tail.

Thanx @roadscape :) - what's a paywall?

what's a paywall?

It's when Satan (a popup or otherwise) blocks you from reading an article until you give him some money to go away. ;)

aah yes, like Forbes or zerohedge.
at some point, I think everyone will be running an extension like uBlock Origin to block all ads.
i don't want to subscribe to Forbes just to view the stories, or get their ads to go away, that's ridiculous.
those subscription models are pretty much dead, or short lived, right? with free "news" apps like periscope, who would want to keep paying for a subscription?
