Title: What is SuperNet??
Post by: Thom on April 05, 2015, 08:01:06 pm
Just heard about this from listening to Anarchast #182 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JT7P9P7kig (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JT7P9P7kig)), followed up by BBC (Aurthor Falls) interview of "Cassius", a NXT writer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhWJvkzwg5I (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhWJvkzwg5I)

I also took 2 minutes and scanned their forum, which doesn't seem to have much content (6574 Posts in 441 Topics by 444 Members).

I have done only a superficial observation of supernet, which raised one eyebrow due to the discussion of privacy and TITAN concepts. It was an important topic in the interview.

It  sounds like their community values cooperation, and their core values appear to embrace synergy, but I am skeptical due to their playing up the whole "mysterious" side of things and being closely tied to NXT. Not sure if their code is open source, but that would be a major question worth asking given their stated goal of encouraging cooperation among altcoin communities.

Still, I heard enough to be intrigued, and I wonder if they have any tech worth looking at.

Anyone here know much about SuperNet? I saw a question from "wasthatawolf" back in October asking about SuperNet holdings. He was pointed to their newsletter.

the are also a Asset on the NXT Blockchain

- James (lead developer) ties many cryptos together, who are willing to give 10% of their shares to supernet. With this shares they have a interest to work together

- they have many projects. Just look at the above posted website

They are basically reaching out to a bunch of crypto communities and getting them to sign on and be part of the "Supernet". Then getting devs to work together on common tools.

It is brilliant imho because by giving up what is perceived by some as a big piece of the pie, they get the power  of the numbers of people in all communities.  However, their tech is based on old protocols and therefore comes with the trappings.

I invested in supernet at almost the same time i discovered bitshares.  At the time i considered the investment in supernet crazy because the main dev is basically anonymous etc.  Long story short my supernet investment is still around the same or up due to all the dividends etc.  My bitshares investment is way way down.

They do a lot of stuff that can be considered somewhat similiar to bitshares such as a decentralized exchange.  They just do it by investing in different projects and tie them together.

When everyone can clone open source material, I think the power of collaboration on some of these projects is less than people think. In my opinion, SuperNet is just plugging together a number of flawed coins, giving them more scale, but I'm not sure what they really gain from merging with other flawed coins. 0 + 0 is still zero. I'll take BitShares.

I agree from a technology stand point it seems they are just hacking together a bunch of projects.  Which one would think would be inferior.  On the other hand its very interesting to see how they are accomplishing a similar vision shared by the "2.0 projects".  They combine projects together the same way devs use different libraries to provide a different piece of the puzzle .

The lead dev might seem crazy but from what I have seen i would not underestimate him or that project.  It probably has about a good of chance as any 2.0 project has.
