Title: MUSE Witness Thread

I know some of you posted elsewhere that you were ready to be a witness, but it is hard for me to track down. Please post again here.

What are the expenses associated with becoming a witness? Will I need to use digital ocean? If I use digital ocean would the profits exceed the operating costs?

Post by: puppies on October 28, 2015, 05:23:08 pm: In regards to server costs it should be a profit. Right now it is taking lots and lots of time though. A profit or loss would depend on how you value your time.

Barebones you could run a witness on a $10 a month digital ocean server. I would not recommend it though. I would recommend at least a $20 a month DO server. (I currently run a $40 a month server just to be extra sure it wont miss random blocks, but you would probably be good on a $20)

Now that you have that most witnesses also run a seed node. Add another $20. Most witnesses also run more than one witness node so they can switch production while doing updates or in case of emergency. Add another $20. So the lowest I would recommend would be $60 a month on servers. there are currently 31 witnesses so ((20*60-3)*24*30)/31=27,801 bts per month. at current price from cmc of 0.004137 we get $115 a month.

and on bts2.0 we don't want one individual to control more than 1 witnesses...
