Title: [Scam-Attempt] favdesu. (note the dot) & PTS_miner
Post by: 5chdn on January 04, 2014, 08:39:50 pm

What happened:
User "PTS_miner" requested a trade and suggested favdesu as escrow.
I accepted conditions and got a mail by "favdesu." (note the dot)
I noticed "favdesu." writing me in english but I know he knows I'm german as he is, first I thought it was just a copy&paste PM.
But then I saw the "Newbie" and "0 Posts". I almost died because I was seconds before sending 600 PTS! (!)

favdesu
my friend has agreed to throw in 5 bitcoin for a 3rd of the PTS.

Will take a little while for him to transfer the bitcoin to my wallet.

I have dropped favdesu a pm regarding escrow,
dont mind holding these for a while,

hope it pays off as its cleaned my bitcoin wallet out.

arse twitching lol
still waiting on the confirmations from the bitcoin my mate sent over.

As soon as they clear ill get the lot over to the escrow address
Bitcoin now on its way to favdesu

Have to pick the wife up from work, so hopefully by the time I get back ill be PTS rich :)

Additional Notes:
Be careful of similar attempts! Double check even escrow partners!

A manual review of new accounts would prevent this style of BS from happening. Of course I say this while being exactly the kind of person not wanting to wait even five minutes for forum permissions and the forum guys got plenty on their hands already but perhaps there is a middle road somewhere. We're talking a 12000$ attempted scam here after all.

Indeed, and reading through the Economics forums, there was another scam attempt at a value of around 500 PTS.

Maybe we "ban" new registered members to the newbie section and disallow private messages like bitcointalk does?

bitcointalk being the Walhalla of scams :). But yes this would probably solve a large part of the problem. I must admit though that I don't have an account on bitcointalk because I didn't feel like sitting through the newbie procedure. But yes, an obligatory newbie forum post plus an OK from a mod should at least keep most of the Nigerians at bay. Litecoinforums handles it quite well in my experience.
