Dan has sent me 224,201 BROWNIE.PTS that are up for donations among loyal and honorable members of the community (I fear, tonyk, that includes you!)
I'd like to take a portion of them and give every forum member that have more than 300 posts (164, excluding me, stan and bytemaster)

One suggestion :
Divide them between several big and small bounties. And keep them so we can use them when needed.
For example, a bounty of X brownies for the best GUI CSS tweaking, best poster o banner Bitshares promoting the Dex or the BitAssets, for the member who gets us on Amazon and Google just like Fox did on Azure, ect...

I don't know if the brownies left can be use to "pay" someome to do a work. The brownie capital will melt in no time.
I like better the bounty system where you reward the best XXX between several XXX.
For example, if we pay 1000 brownies for 1 poster for Bitshares Dex, we have 1 poster, we like it or not. If we pay 1000 brownies for the best poster, we will have several members doing one in their spare time and we will have several ones. Only the best (by vote) get the reward.

Keep them and buy steem tokens/vests or bts with them. Then pass them out to people who work free (because a worker will not pay for them) who you still think should be doing what they need to do. Yes, like @esteffan says...it wont likely pay for much work, but sometimes there are dire situations where the tokens could really help us if leveraged into he right person with the right solution for the right problem.
I love your spirit though and how it goes along with the theme of Steem itself to give to those who post and curate content (on our forums). Just really think sometimes it would be best to give them away in times when funding (or political wherewithal) is low. Just my two cents. :)

While I agree that some people seriously overuse the 5%, it would be FAR more skewed to go by registered date since tons of people register accounts and don't contribute much if anything at all. If there was just some way to filter out the posts that contain nothing but 5%!! Anyway, I think participation in mumble sessions is a good indicator.

That defeats the purpose of Brownies as a n appreciation tokens from BM. you need to EARN them, one or the other way. IMHO just creating an account is not worth it.
Also, take a look what happened with QBITs, people squattered the blockchain with accounts to sell their free QBITs. Not gonna do that with brownies

Agrees. But I'd say that a) most people in the least used +5% almost uniformly and I don't think that there is a user that made 300 posts only with 5% in them.
Also keep in mind that 1 BROWNIE is worth ~2BTS which is less than $1c.

this is exactly why the perception of this community is that we are all
a bunch of spamming ass kissing pumpers who post incesst +5%s
continuously without valuable substance.
This actually looks like a targeted effort to bury all the hard work
performed by this community in a mountain of spam.
I wonder if the next project is going to launch as a "closed source"
project so that the crowd can fully dissipate before publishing the fact
that BTS changed to "open source" a few weeks later in small print so
nobody would ever know.
I tend to agree, about bad perception and misuse of +5%. Bu I can't
recall anyone really making any money out of this (including the brownie
distribution in this thread). Also keep in mind, someone coming here and
posting a +5% still contributes (slightly) by keeping things alive or
even reading the posts.
Any other constructive ideas for distributing brownies?

Interesting. There are people in that list that haven't posted here in a very long while, perhaps that should be taken into account as well. In doing so it also should be considered what the quality of such "dormant" accounts were when they were active.
To base your giveaway on this forum alone will be a challenge. Can you programmatically and fairly assess the quality of a forum account? Number of posts, avg. post length, frequency of posts, time active on forum (last active date - join date) are all quantitative metrics you could employ to come up with a weighting factor.
You could also factor in who contributed to the biggest topics, or the most important topics, which may not always be the topics with the largest number of posts (but those would probably have to be manually determined). Perhaps noting which topics BM started or contributed to (there are many he does not participate in, dare I say most?) and assigning a higher weight to people that post in those topics could be a useful metric.
Most of this analysis could be done with SQL queries. It's a matter of how much time you want to put into the assessment. For a time bitsaphire was publishing the mysql database of this forum. Is that still available? Might be kindof fun to play with these ideas on actual data. I am the admin of an SMF forum for a small community so I am quite familiar with the SMF DB structure and quite adept at creating queries to mine data. I did that for several years professionally for a web based financial planning application.

Just because people have not been active in the last weeks, doesn't mean they shouldn't get brownies .. see for instance @baozi, how certainly deserves some.
Also, since many users don't necessarily have the forum handle=btsaccount, I need to send a pm to all of them anyway. I expect those that are inactive not not tell me a bts account ..
I will not just send brownies to abandoned accounts.

- Some of these 'extra' brownies could be distributed to mirror the proportions of those which were distributed as a result of bytemaster's original brownie announcement post (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,17354.0.html). This would be like a bonus top-up for people who have already proved helpful.
- Or, similarly, some could be sharedropped on people who currently hold brownies (and therefore value them right now and have put time or money in at some point).
- Sell them and put the money back into the blockchain
- Offer them as bounties (as @EstefanTT has already suggested)
- Start a thread similar to bytemaster's original brownies announcement offering people the chance to appeal for brownies for contributions they've made since bytemaster's distribution
@xeroc - is there a deadline for getting these distributed? The answer to this affects the options for distribution (but also may leak information by allowing us to infer stuff!)...

(Yeah, its true that the pump didnt last, but at lest it served two useful functions: Bitshares accessibility is increased buy being on Azure, and the short term pump by being one of the first coins on there resulted in a lot of BTS being transferred from old disgruntled bagholders to new buyers, some of whom hopefully will help it to grow).

Back last summer there was talk of sharedrops onto BTS and Brownies, for projects like Identabit.
Did those ever happen? Or a snapshot for them taken?

I looked into vesting .. the only issue I see here is that they cost $5 per vbo. With well over300 people, that is a bunch of money just to send them out ..
I might draw a threshold line at some number of posts and only give those above that line a VBO .. e.g. the 'big fishes' :)

As an idea, maybe you can distribute them using sharebot, it's useful to distribute for forum members, so everybody will withdraw them by himself.

I looked into vesting .. the only issue I see here is that they cost $5 per vbo. With well over300 people, that is a bunch of money just to send them out ..
I might draw a threshold line at some number of posts and only give those above that line a VBO .. e.g. the 'big fishes' :)
As an idea, maybe you can distribute them using sharebot, it's useful to distribute for forum members, so everybody will withdraw them by himself.

though id love to i have to say the sharebot is not ready yet. It will be worked on though.

Thanks for reminding. I am one of those who didn't notice this news. Indeed, the whole Chinese community, or even the whole BTS community have not been active on this forum for a while.
It's probably because BTS is now stable, both on function and price. :)
