Title: Lost Password - Brute Force Legal?
Post by: wilson025025 on March 08, 2018, 11:10:54 pm
I lost my password to my openledger account, but I have my bin file... I know how to brute force the website, but I dont want to get in trouble if its not legal. Does anyone know if it is legal? Or know where I can request permission from openledger.io?

Support can't help you recover your password.

You don't have to "brute force the website". The website doesn't have nor validate your password. The password is used to decrypt the .bin file on your local computer. You can brute force that, without using the website at all, and it's perfectly legal too.

OH WOW! How do I brute force the password without using the site? I did notice that the site is written in java script and I can disconnect my computer from the internet and still attempt to login... But I would prefer to brute force the bin file without using the site...

download the light client here: https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-ui/releases

Usually works a little faster compared to the website since its installed locally.
