Post by: blackbeard on February 06, 2014, 09:14:12 pm
Is there a day scheduled for a launch?

28 February
It is a test but if there are no bugs it will be the first official chain

February 28 AGS and PTS Snapshot. Mark your calendars, on February 28th, 2014 the last BTC and
PTS blocks found on that date will be used to calculate the initial balances of the BitShares XT chain
which has the potential to become a fully viable non-test chain if it manages to survive SICDS (Sudden
Instant Chain Death Syndrome) as a result of undiscovered bugs. In other words, BitShares XT is a full
up dress rehearsal and its launch must be treated as any other official launch.

Actually 28 Feb. is not a launch date.

The last blocks on PTS and BTC on 28 Feb will define the genesis block for BitShares XT.

Whats the advantage of buying protoshares now vs buying bitshares directly after genesis block?

For example lets imagine 1PTS == 1Bitshare

When genesis block is created I'll own one bitshare for my one pts. Couldn't i just buy 1 bitshare for 1 pts *after* the genesis block?

It's possible for the price to go up and it may cost you more than 1 PTS per BTS.  The price could also go down.  Keep in mind that 1 PTS will equal about 1.33 BTS at launch.

I also realized that if I buy a protoshare now I don't have to get rid of it to get my bitshare.

I buy one 1protoshare, then bitshare genesis happens so now i have 1 pts and 1 bitshare, whereas if i wait to *buy* a bitshare  with protoshare I only end up with 1 bitshare in the end and no protoshare

Yes and don't forget that all PTS and AGS will not exist yet on Feb 28th so roughly
~1.5 million PTS will map to 2 million BTS and
~0.6 million AGS will map to 2 million BTS.
... much better than 1:1.

Then PTS and AGS keep on giving with every new BitShares DAC after that, dropping to about 1:1 only as we approach July...

Those who take the early adopter risk between now and then are thereby hansomely rewarded.
