Title: use of feeds and derivatives in the BitShares ecosystem?

in  this thread (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=4563.0) toast references feeds and derivatives in the OP.

The derivatives part I understand.

But do feeds have any currently planned use in the BitShares ecosystem? Do I correctly understand the definition to be information automatically attained from a centralized source, i.e. a news feed?
