Title: New official support thread on bitcointalk for BitShares X.
Post by: friendsofbitshares on July 23, 2014, 09:23:48 pm
Seeing is believing, so give it a click.

Great place to get a few free BTSX so you can withdraw from bter.  Talk about your experiences.  Make friends not enemies.  Love all things BitShares and they will love you back!

First reply is that a "giveaway" thread not allowed. Poster does not appear to be a moderator, but may report the thread as "not allowed".

I am confused.  I've never bothered to moderate threads, but it is an option when you create the thread.  My assumption would be I can delete posts in the future.

If you don't do this, all it takes is one bored troll to just hammer the thread being obnoxious.  I've seen it before on bitcointalk.  It just ruins the thread for everyone.  I will go ahead and remove mention of the moderation from the OP.

Fantastic  +5% I'm glad you've titled it as  a support thread! If there is fairly frequent support and answers to people's questions that will be gold  :)

I've posted a sort of mini faucet web_wallet with basic instruction on how to register an account to enable withdrawal from bter.

I know giveaways are not allowed. What about competitions?

Good question.  I'm pretty sure they're ok with that.  I think giveaways just end up with 40 page threads of "me too".  Go look at the delegate who is offering to airdrop or whatever back to bit*talk.org.  That is what they want to avoid.  Contests though we could do AFAIK.

Cool. I was thinking I might try an X meme competition or a when will BTSX pass PPC & DRK competition. Any other ideas?

Yea, it basically comes down to memes.  We can ask for themed memes.  There are also youtube videos/audio.

You could make a wallet and have people try to guess how much is in the wallet.  ROFL The closest guess in a week wins !!!  Then pay it out and give out the key for anyone to verify.  Seems like a giveaway.. but to be perfectly honest, it is a competition. ;)

Lets see... Trivia ?  "Name the first development environment and platform used by Dan Larimer"  (Not that Dan wishes to be involved..) We can't use googleable stuff.

Cool, I'll sleep on it, I'll just make clear it's a personal competition and not directly related to BitShares so if they delete it or have a problem with it, not the end of the world.

I like the trivia one....we could start with the question: "is bitshares turing complete?"

Hmm, not seeing any competitions on the alternate or alternate announcements cryptocurrency forums, guessing they're not welcome...

BTW there is a question there (not in the main but in the TITAN thread)  that I do not know the answer to... toast, BM,clout…?

thanks for the info.
so are there transaction hashes so i can prove i sent the money/btsx.
if dan buys something from stans shop and then stan says he did not receive the money how can you verify stan received it without blockchain transaction hashes?

Dan has his private key + sender key and can publish shared secret

You can arrange giveaways through a link to a third party page, maybe a google docs form.

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to all of this so I was hoping for a little help.

I downloaded my btsx wallet.

A: I'm assuming the account key is the address I want to withdraw to? It isn't labeled address like my experience with other wallets, so i just want to be sure.

B:
I can't withdraw my funds from bter to an account that isn't registered.
I can't register my account until there are funds in it?

I know I'm a newbie to this stuff, but what is the work around? I really like the idea of PTS and BTSX, and I read enough to think investing a little bit would be a good idea, but I'm far from understanding it fully. I'd like to get my shares out of bter though, because from what I understand, my shares won't be recognized as an investment to Invictus unless they're in my wallet.

Any help in understanding this further would be greatly appreciated! This is also my first post in here. So, hey.

In BitShares we do not use ugly keys to transfer funds. Instead we register an
individual  name on a blockchain .. (mine is 'xeroc') and then send funds to
the name instead of keys ..

The only issue as there is no faucet (currently) is some kind of chicken-egg issue ..
you can by BTSX on an exchange and only sent to a registered account but need that money to register the account .. see

how ever we can fix this just by you posting your account key.
Some guys around will send you 1-10BTSX and you can use those to register your
account.

With the registered account in place you can withdraw all you funds from BTER.

thanks xeroc! That is extremely helpfull!

Where should I post my account key? I'd be more than happy to send anyone back a little bit more than they send me to get me started.

Is it safe to post my account key in here? I'm also assuming it's safe to post my account name since you posted yours. When mine is registered, it will be david-allday.

Also, thanks a lot for the warm welcome. I'm excited about what all of this can (and hopefully will) be.

I've been reading and researching digital currencies for a while and finally bought in a little bit last week. My chick thinks I'm nuts, but I do think it will be the future, and I wanted to get on board sooner rather than later.

this part isn't true. dividends are paid out by destroying currency to equally distribute it to holders. search this forum for "Dividends 2.0" you can make money by holding on BTER. It's just not safe in the event BTER were to implode.
