Title: Does the X of BitSharesX stand for eXperimental?
Post by: Thom on September 20, 2014, 02:44:19 am
And is there a PTS DAC or is PTS the obsolete "ProtoShares" that have now evolved into the BTSX DAC?

What is the roadmap to going "live"? Will my BTSX shares have to be transferred to a new blockchain or will the current bc just evolve and grow as the toolkit code matures?

The X in BitSharesX stands for eXchange. BitSharesX is live, it's the final chain. If there is to be any related offspring there will be a snap-shot from itself.

ProtoShares were renamed to PTS due to trademark issues, it's the same thing.

This means ProtoShares and PTS are the same thing. They are also sometimes called BitShares PTS.

BitSharesX (also called BTSX) are different to PTS.

nope they SHOULD called

BitShares PTS
BitSharesX
BitShares Notes
BitShares AGS
etc.

technically Protoshares and BitShares PTS are same. On the one hand we renamed it due *trademark issues* on the other hand to get a consistency on it!

I've always thought that it was bitsharesx because it was intended to be forked and built upon.  But maybe I am wrong.

If that is incorrect, eXchange would be the only other one I can think of...

PTS was the first crypto launched by BM and I3, it is a more traditional "bitcoin-clone" type of currency but with a novel mining algorithm called Momentum that was meant to be CPU only. It turned out to be GPU mineable but only after a certain time, and is still being mined to this day although it has serious issues with it's difficulty due to large swings in mining interest due to snapshots.

PTS gives the right to claim parts in DACs based on your stake at the time of a snapshot, it was the case for BTSX at the end of february, and other snapshots that have been held since and future snapshots will all honor PTS.

So no, PTS is not the same thing as BTSX, it's a separate crypto currency.

X is for exchange: several names were debated to get across the concept of an exchange, but there was a lot of disagreement on what name to use for it.

Where can one find info on mining PTS?

I am not really sure how you decided  eX-perimental is what it stands for,

but I have always believed that it stands for

eX-ponential...

Thanks!
