Title: Syncing is slooow

Im running 0.4.20 since about 30 minutes ago, and its taken that long to sync 5 days worth of blocks - its still not finished :(

optimization is not yet on top of the list ...
lot's of speed improvements are yet to come ..

The next release will include a significant speedup in sync time: in our tests took 1/3 the time of 4.20.
