Amanda is great!  I haven't approached her about this yet but I think she could make us an excellent "how to use bitshares video" or "what are bitshares video"

I may just get a quote from her and then create a donation address to raise funds for this.

What do you all think?

General Discussion / An open letter to Ronny B of Openledger
« on: March 20, 2016, 10:28:54 pm »
@ccedk

Dear Ronny B,

As it currently stands I see no major difference between the downloadable light client and Openledgers webwallet.
After raising $237,000+ from the Obits crowdsale I think many Obits holders would have been hoping to see you make some custom changes to the GUI.
the GUI is great for us bitshares fans but the GUI is too complex and confusing for new users who may be used to poloniex right now.

These are some simple changes that are mostly about removing some stuff and not actually paying for development of new features.
I think these changes would make the user experience for first time users much much better.

- Host your exchange at openledger.info (right now it is a redirect)
- You could limit your GUI to just OPEN.BTC trade pairs
- Remove unnecessary buttons like a lot of the options on the vertical menu
- Make the Deposit/Withdraw button more prominent by moving it to the top menu.
- Remove deposit and withdraw options from other providers
- Limit the openledger users to a single account
- Add a trollbox
- Add a favicon
- integrate your homepage in to the exchange itself.
- Merge CCEDK and openledger into one.

If you are worried about losing features create a tickbox in settings to toggle on advanced features.
I sure for a handsome fee @svk  would be willing to make these custom changes for you.

I would like to start my own exchange at thedex.org but have put this on hold for 6 months until a few things settle down but I still hope to do it. But until then please take my best ideas and run with them.

Regards

Jonny B

If BTS value comes primarily from our network effect then we should be incentivising basic coins that have a large userbase to migrate to our blockchain.
MKR and BANX have recently migrated to our blockchain as they benefit from not having to run their own blockchain plus many other features.
Storj have announced they intend to leave the counterparty coloured coin system (bitcoin blockchain)
https://www.reddit.com/r/ethtrader/comments/49ce5u/storj_probably_moving_out_of_counterparty/

I think other tokens that use counterparty would be a good target to start with. View their top 10 here: https://xcpassets.org/

Also Startcoin would be a prime candidate for migration due to the fact it is just a basic coin that transfers yet has users and publicity. (I have reached out to them already)

If any of you have contacts or know the creators of any top 100 Coinmarketcap coins it would be great if you could reach out to them and make the case for a native migration.

Theres a bunch of UIA coin names I have reserved for a future exchange that I will gladly handover to the corresponding coins should they wish to migrate natively to our blockchain.

Which other basic coins/ feeshare tokens can you think of that would benefit from migrating?

Before I start, here is a good explanation of what sidechains are: http://gendal.me/2014/10/26/a-simple-explanation-of-bitcoin-sidechains/

Amanda discussed them on yesterdays daily decrypt also but the explanation above is better imo: https://youtu.be/Q6VwH1yKjdI

This is my proposal of how we should make the bitshares blockchain a sidechain for bitcoin and take the glory for actually implementing it before any other blockchain does.

Depositor sends bitcoin to the bitshares network.
The bitcoin address sent to is now controlled by 2 keys required to spend from it. (multisig)
One key is held by bitcoin depositor and second key is held by bitshares witnesses.
This bitcoin cannot move until both original depositor and a witness sign a transaction to send it somewhere else. (it's effectively frozen)
The witnesses can now issue a BTC token 1:1 for the same amount as was deposited to the depositor (lets call this SIDEBTC)
Original depositor now has SIDEBTC in his bitshares wallet which is non tradeable and cannot be transferred.
SIDEBTC has only one purpose which is to be used as collateral by the original depositor to create BITBTC.
If collateral is denominated in same currency as the bitasset it is creating there is only need for *100% collateral not 200%+
This BITBTC created from SIDEBTC can be transferred and traded.

For the depositor to get back their real BTC they must settle their BITBTC debts first then instruct the witnesses to redeem their SIDEBTC and return their real BTC back to them.

if the original depositor never redeems his SIDEBTC, nobody including the witnesses will be able to access that real BTC again.
This means technically speaking the SIDEBTC is not real collateral. It means the committee can freeze it but not have access to it themselves.
Because of this we need ensure that almost all SIDEBTC holders redeem it for real BTC in the future.
Now earlier I said only *100% collateral is needed to create a bit asset if both asset and collateral are the same currency which is true.
But to make sure almost all SIDEBTC is redeemed in the future we should make the collateral requirements for BITBTC higher than 100%
For example we could require 110% SIDEBTC in collateral to create 100% BITBTC
This should make sure that all SIDEBTC owners will make sure they can redeem in the future.

Points to note.
-This sidechain proposal for bitcoin is intended to eliminate the need for bitcoin denominated UIAs as it would be free to transfer and trade and be 100% liquid at peg with zero chance your btc could be stolen.
-Witnesses cannot steal BTC under any circumstances. The worst they could do would be colluding to freeze the bitcoin.
-Having the collateral in the same currency as the the bitasset also eliminates the possibility of a margin call.
-Forced settlement would not be possible because SIDEBTC (the collateral for BITBTC) can only be moved if the original depositor signs.
-SIDEBTC is not technically collateral because the real BTC cannot be recovered by the bitshares network if the original depositor never redeems his SIDEBTC

I reached out to the owner of the proper bitshares accounts for fb and twitter.

www.twitter.com/bitshares

and

facebook.com/bitshares

He wants $3000 for both of them. It's alot of money but it's something I really think the community should own if we are to be taken seriously.
who the accounts should officially be controlled by is another issue to be decided if we do acquire them.

I'm sure I can barter with him and bring the price down more.

Please do not make contact with the owner as he will think there is stronger demand and may push the price higher.

i've hosted it at whatarebitshares.com

i need to tidy up the script and get someone with a better voice than myself to do it.

General Discussion / Liquidity idea
« on: February 22, 2016, 01:41:56 am »
Remove all smartcoins except BitUSD.
keep the witness price feeds.

Those who want to hold euros yen gold or pounds have to buy bitusd.

bitusd can then be moved into other fiat denominated accounts where its value is locked/auto hedged to whatever currency you want.

this new fiatpegged bitasset  could be transferred but not traded. in order to trade you would have to move it back to your bitusd wallet.

(only for fiat, cryptocoins need to be sidechains)

General Discussion / Time to kill the Graphene name.
« on: February 18, 2016, 06:29:42 pm »
I like the name graphene and I like cool codenames but.....

Mixed market messages are a bad idea. I thought graphene was just a code name for BTS2 but for some it sticks.
The backend is named bitshares-2 on github and the frontend is bitshares-2-ui and these use the bitshares blockchain.

Why confuse newbies with the word graphene. Unless we want to rebrand bitshares as graphene lets kill it off now.

theres enough confusion with openledger being the official client.

General Discussion / How to increase BTS market cap (simple crude method)
« on: February 11, 2016, 10:55:50 am »
Many of you will scoff at this but it does work.

Cryptotraders hangout on poloniex and they see the troll box.
They are influenced by what is said in the troll box and they get news from the trollbox. (they will deny this)
Newly rich speculators from eth and maid will be looking for the next big trade to double their money again.

I always see people talking up eth maid factom etc but never BTS
If there were a bunch of us in there daily talking up the benefits of BTS it could generate real interest and hype.
This kind of hype can quickly see large rallies, especially in low volume coins like bts.
A 50% rally in a day is easy and sustainable after the drops BTS has suffered in the last year.
A large rally generates more intrigue and interest and can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I know a lot of you programming geniuses will think that the technical superiority will eventually sell bts but the truth is perception is everything in trading.
And perceptions can be changed by constantly repeating something until people believe it.

Speculators jump on trends and rumors and these are easier to generate than you might realise.
We should be in there daily talking it up.
Maybe on liquidity day (29th Feb) we should all turn up there and generate some hype.

I am @londonwhale in poloniex trollbox and anything I say in there should be dismissed as gibberish.
PUMP PUMP To da MOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!

In previous threads about liquidity I said maybe we should focus on BitUSD and forget about the other smartcoins for the time being.
The reasoning behind this is to focus and concentrate the liquidity and market depth in one place.

Now imagine we had prediction markets for movement of your local currency against the USD.
Everyone would be able to hold BitUSD with a CFD for their local currency meaning they can save and store value in their local currency yet everyone will be trading BitUSD.

Just an Idea.

UPDATE1: @onceuponatime has paid the whole weeks sponsorship out of his own pocket. Incredible. We should all be very grateful to him. We are now over funding for a second week of sponsorship

UPDATE2: We have now fully funded 4 weeks sponsorship of TDD thanks in large part to RonnyB from @ccedk with a whopping donation of 100k
4 weeks is plenty so you can all stop donating now. The donations account contains excess value of approx 22k which I shall return to ronnyb.
Thank to all who donated. Amanda will research bitshares and talk about different bits for 15secs of each show I believe.

This is all booked and paid for, it cost me 58000 BTS  0.5 btc
I would greatly appreciate it if you could all chip in to help cover this cost, please send to this bts account: 8)

dailydecryptsponsorship9-15feb

I did try to crowdfund this 6 weeks ago but there was little response: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20070.0.html

And people were discussing in the telegram chat group and said they would chip in.

I could have done a woker proposal but just wanted to get it booked up and paid for with out faffing around.

so please kindly donate the the account above until it reaches a balance of 58k

thanks in advance to all those who donate. but please don't send me shitcoins.

General Discussion / Please vote out Bitcrab if you care about bitshares.

Please vote out Bitcrab if you care about bitshares.

He has too much power, and is getting use of an exchanges votes.
He previously bullied the committee in to suspending forced settlement because he'd done his own maths wrong.
He is very pushy and I think he needs less votes.
