General Discussion / An open letter to Tonyk
« on: September 26, 2014, 03:04:57 pm »
HI Tonyk,

I have no idea who you are or what you do. Like everyone else I have met in Bitshares, I am sure you are an invaluable member of the team, and a true rockstar at something. Perhaps your are a genius coder, or a legendary UI guy. And given the number of posts you have made you most certainly have been here longer than me.

What I am quite certain of though is that you are not a rockstar at anything to do with interacting with customers or prospects.

A person who was a rockstar at those tasks would know that it takes an enormous amount of effort and strategy to put out press releases, make videos, write articles, speak at meetups and do webinars in the hopes of introducing maybe 10,000 people to bitshares.

A rockstar at customer service would be aware that of those 10,000 people touched only about 500 would have their interest piqued. Of those only about 50 would have the spare time after going a to their job and playing with their kids to do any research at all, let alone read several posts/articles and watch videos.

Of those, after being frustrated by not being able to fully grasp these very new and difficult concepts, only about 5 would still be curios enough and courageous enough to post questions in public forum where they run the risk of ridicule.

And a rockstar would know that after all that hard work, to get those 5 curious and courageous people to get involved in bistshares after they have asked those questions would be as simple as being friendly, humble and patient as they connect the last few dots on this very large and difficult concept.

In short, a rockstar would treat those 5, like the hard-earned precious gems that they are.

So please, stop sabotaging bitsharesx by responding to new inquiries. That is a specialty job whose primary prerequisite is that the person is not accused of being a dick so often, that they feel the need to preemptively defend against those accusations in their signature.

General Discussion / Headline suggestions
« on: September 25, 2014, 01:02:36 am »
Hey team,

So I am thinking the next concept I will introduce via video to the bitcoin community is DAC's. Profitable Crypto's vs non-profitable crypto's.   Again this will not be a ram it down your throat btsx is awesome video.

It will be a bitcoin and blockchain are awesome because it allows DAC's.

What is a headline that would make a devout bitcoiner click on to learn about this topic?

Thanks for suggestions in advance.

Vote it up in all locations if you wish.

Remember don't hate on bitcoin in the comments. Talk only how we can help bitcoin go to the moon.

General Discussion / 5% annual fee. What is the point?
« on: September 13, 2014, 05:01:40 am »
I see many things I hate about it, but what is the point?

The only thing I can come up with is if btsx is in cold storage then people cannot change their delegate vote.   Is that is purpose?  To encourage frequent voting?

Most of this post belongs in the marketing forum, but because I am seeking contributors to a bounty to break DPOS, I thought it belongs here.

My name is Max Wright and I have been following Bytemaster since before Invictus' first newsletter. My skills are in marketing and not tech and as such have watched from afar as the tech geniuses behind bitshares do their thing... very well I might add.

But after hanging out with the team in Saint Martin and working with Brian and BM for the last month, I have drawn some conclusions and here they are for that they are worth.   Feedback is appreciated.

1. Marketing to non-bitcoin enthusiasts at this early stage is a waste of time.  The entry and exit ramps to btsx require bitcoin and that is where we must focus.

2. Bitcoin works in cliques, and most bitcoiners have their favorite and trusted sources. What I call bitcoin royalty. Get them and the rest follow. Vitalik was a great start, and in the following months you will see many of his followers pay attention to btsx.  I believe we should invest our resources here first.

3. bitUSD may be very useful in getting the early masses on board but it has little appeal to early adoptors, innovators and bitcoin royalty. We should not focus marketing efforts on bitUSD at this time.

4. TITAN is cool, but has some potential drawbacks. I think it is easy to send money to an incorrect party and it would be nice to not lead with a privacy thing which may attract unwanted govt attention which may slow us down. Further, bitcoiners have already jumped the hurdle of dealing with ugly addresses and QR codes and as I mentioned in point 1, I think we should only be interested in bitcoiners at the moment. If we had nothing else I would run with it, but we have gold so why bother.

5. I think DPOS is the killer feature (the gold) that will help us attract the bitcoin royalty and their followers.

6. When Bitcoiners understand that in 2014 the first half a billion dollars of fiat that chased bitcoin went to electricity and chip manufacturing companies instead of sending the price of their coins to the moon they will want a solution. When they realize DPOS is that solution, they will come.

7. One by one, they will come until the call in the bitcoin community is 50% or more and they will hardfork bitcoin to DPOS. That will be great for Bitcoin and bitshares and by extension humanity.

8. I have a plan and will execute it shortly to create videos and presentations to attract the bitcoin community with the lure of using DPOS to solve this problem.

9. As part of this video I am going to offer a bounty to anyone who can destroy/hack/break DPOS

10. Thoughts on that bounty.
A) I need to work with the tech team on the wording of the bounty. DPOS is easier to corrupt than POW, but that is accounted for by its easy to recover from features (voting, hardforks, etc).  How should this bounty be worded?

B) I am willing to match dollar for dollar up to 20btc (approx $10k) for this bounty. Because I do not have the tech knowledge to know how good DPOS really is, I will only match btc put up by the dev team.  If it is too early and DPOS is not ready for the big team just yet, then that is cool we can wait. But if it is, and the devs will put their money where their mouth is (and where their time has been) I will match up to 20btc.

C) The bigger the bounty, the bigger the press, the more eyeballs on bitshares. I hope you contribute to the bounty as well.   Remember if the bounty is not claimed in 12 months, then you get your btc back and nothing is lost.  If the bounty is paid and a fatal flaw is found in DPOS then you may have just saved yourself years of your life working on a flawed concept. How much is that worth to you? It is a no lose situation. I hope to get this bounty over $100,000

D) In order for the bounty to be believed it must be held in a public btc wallet. Pledges are not enough.   I suggest a multisig wallet, with myself, BM and a couple of other trusted community members as signers.

11. I would like to get this video and concept out soon so if you have ideas or can contribute setting up the bounty wallet, please post here quickly.

Thoughts and feedback appreciated.

General Discussion / Help: Cold Storage problems
« on: August 22, 2014, 08:40:19 pm »
So I followed the instructions at this post
http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/ColdStorage

and I think I lost my btsx.   Fortunately it was all with small amounts for testing.

Any ideas on what went wrong?

My best guess is (and I am no techie) if a delegate has not processed the name registration, then the coins you send are lost.  But unless you import the private key (thus making it hot) you have no idea if a delegate has processed it.

FYI there was about 3 minutes between registering the name "coldstoragetest3" and depositing funds into it.

Also the Blue "refresh circle" icon seems to me that the coins did not go through and will be returned, but both fees and transfer have not been returned.   What does that blue refresh circle mean?

How do you post images?
http://screencast.com/t/zBYPxAAJSAU

Thanks for any help

PS:  Also... Did I read somewhere there is a 5% fee for an account with no activity each year??  That seems annoying for cold storage.

General Discussion / Suggestion - time to take action email list
« on: January 06, 2014, 07:47:45 pm »
Hey guys,

I appreciate that things change quickly on your end as you roll with the punches.

On my end, I don't have time to live on forums to find out if action needs to be taken on my end for anything in particular.

Case in point (please forgive me if any of the following is false)
On christmas eve, protoshare holders were entitled to MM2 coins or something like that. In order to take advantage of that, you needed to have your coins in your wallet and not say on an exchange. Mine were on an exchange and I missed out. Even though I am on the Invictus email list, I did not receive a heads up to move my protoshares.

I think that is poor form especially given the season, but hey your busy, what can you do.

How about the option to subscribe to an email list to keep us informed of shit we need to do.   For example "Next week, bitshares will launch and you need to have your prtoshares in your wallet to claim them, and here is how to claim them."

I like the cause, and I Am trying to help with money, but it seems non-techies and non-on-the-boards-everyday people are gonna miss out on things we have been promised if you dont seek us out for important stuff with deadlines

BitShares PTS / wallet balance = zero?
« on: December 27, 2013, 02:05:17 pm »
Protoshares has been tragically frustrating for me, but I spare you all of that.

Today's issue is that I sent 1 protoshare to my protoshare-qt wallet from my exchange wallet as a tes to make sure it works.

But the balance is zero and the blockchain is synced and the transaction was sent an hour ago.

Here are the steps I followed.

In the debug console window I typed
listreceivedbyaddress 0 true

to get an address to send to.

This address was the output
PkSx1BZbfDECc5qFgU5Ykht8EuxQZgLYK8

Then I went to Bter.com and sent 1 pts to that address.

But the balance appearing in the qt client shows zero after 1 hour.

Any thoughts?

Hi guys,

I love the mission here and really want to rap my head around it so I can endorse it fully.  ( I have sizable lists in crypto world)

However, I cant even get the client working let alone mine.

If anyone helps me out on Skype and gets it up and running for me, $50 reward is on offer.

Thanks.
