Technical Support / USD Collateral holder - "Not your account"
« on: March 12, 2016, 09:18:05 pm »
Here's the issue I'm facing:

I own two accounts, basically mine and a USD collateral holder that was rolled over because I had open shorts on the DEX when Bitshares transitioned from BTS1 to BTS2.0.

To be safe I added a safe collateral ratio during the bear market, to make sure that I wouldn't get margin called. The problem is right now that I adjusted my collateral in the USD collateral account, I cannot send those BTS to my main account as it says in the transfer tab that it is not my account. I'm not quite sure why?

Is there something I have to do? I can update my collateral in the collateral holder account, but I can't transfer BTS from that account.

thanks!

Hey,

Got a quick question for those of you who know very well the market engine rules.

I shorted a small amount of bitUSD in mid-July and my short expired in August. I decided to let it ride the order book instead of covering or rolling it over. But then the price dropped, causing my collateral to fall below the required amount. If my short hadn't been expired I would have been margin called, but it appears that because it was expired, it stayed on the order book at feed price.

Was I margin called, or since it was expired it wasn't what happened? Will I have to pay the 10% penalty for being margin called? Now that the price has risen significantly (right now the BTS value is higher than when I initially shorted), am I able to simply buy back the bitUSD and keep the BTS profits for the short?

Thanks for the answer!

General Discussion / Bitshares price discussion
« on: June 12, 2015, 04:05:43 pm »
First of all, I know that a lot of you (me as well included) are here for the long run, so short term price is not a pressing concern in the sense that we're not waiting for a rise to dump our holding and make a quick profit. I'm hoarding and accumulating because I really believe in the long term success of the platform, economically and idealogically, even more since the announcement of Bitshares 2.0. At some point I wasn't totally convinced it could go mainstream, but now it's totally clear in my mind Bitshares will become real big at some point.

That being said, I'm still wondering why the price has dropped since the announcement? Other than "buy the rumor, sell the news" type of answer, is there a logical explanation to the current situation?

In 2014 at some point we had a marketcap of more than 60-70M$ with a real buggy client and not even half the features that will come up with 2.0.

Was it all only hype and speculation, or is it because Bitshares is seriously undervalued right now?

Part of it may be because the market hasn't realized yet the potential of Bitshares 2.0 and that all those close to the project are actually already fully invested?

I'd like to have the perspective of traders (and everybody else also) on the subject!

General Discussion / Client crashing while trying to launch (v0.8.0)
« on: March 28, 2015, 10:21:42 pm »
I upgraded the client to 0.8.0. Then, every time I try to open the client, I have this error message "An error occurred while trying to start. Please try restarting the application."

Here what I tried to solve it
- Rename the peer folder in appdata - Didn't work
- Do a backup of the appdata files, delete everything (except backup of course) and uninstall the client. Reboot the computer, re-install the client and try to open it. - Didn't work, client keeps crashing with the same error message.

Is there something else I could try?

I'm very happy not to live in the US after reading this. IRS can literally confiscate your money if they only think it might come from illegal activities. Even after it's proven you have done nothing wrong, they don't even give it back to you.

It gives me goose bumps just to think it's possible...

Muse/SoundDAC / Cost of Notes - PTS VS Pre-sale
« on: October 17, 2014, 01:27:54 pm »
I just made a quick calculation, just to get a sense of which is the cheaper way to get Notes, either buying PTS before the snapshot or donating directly to the pre-sale. I'm making several assumptions here, so yes, there are different cases where PTS could have been more advantageous or donating to the pre-sale less advantageous.

So let's say I bought PTS just before the snapshot, at about 0.01BTC/PTS and sold after the snapshot a little later at around 0.0075BTC/PTS.

1000PTS for the music snapshot would have cost me (0.01-0.0075)*1000 = 2.5BTC

Those 1000PTS entitles me to (1000/1,710,000)*0.35*1,500,000,000 = 307,017 Notes -- Assuming 1,710,000 PTS in circulation and a 35% initial distribution to PTS

Let's say instead of investing in PTS before the snapshot, I decided to keep my money and use those 2,5BTC to donate to the pre-sale. I'll use the average donation per day as of today, which is 26.48BTC/day for 5,000,000 notes.

Let's assume that by giving a little over several days and get that average per day, those 2.5BTC would entitle me to:

2.5/26.48 * 5,000,000 = 472,054 Notes.

With those assumptions (which are kind of realistic), I can get 53.8% more Notes investing in the pre-sale instead of having invested in PTS pre-snapshot.

Just saying there are cheap Notes to grab as we speak. If I were to be selfish I would just shut up and let the others figure it out by themselves, but more donations = more capital raised = greater product, so I still serve my interests...

KeyID / KeyID account faucet - getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND
« on: October 11, 2014, 03:12:22 pm »
I took a look and didn't find anything related to that issue in the forum (sorry if it has already been addressed), but I went to freekeyid.com, identified myself using google and then entered my account key with the desired username.

I received the message: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND

What does it mean and what should I do from there?

Thanks!

General Discussion / The reason behind low BTSX trading volume?
« on: October 03, 2014, 11:54:21 am »
I was just wondering if there was a plausible explanation for the suddenly very low trading volumes for BTSX? From the data available on CMC, there's a volume of about 180BTC across all exchanges...

It's very low compared to what it was in the last few weeks...

At least the price is fairly stable, so it doesn't mean people are losing faith in BTSX (how could they be anyway, it's awesome!)

Just thinking out loud here...

BTSX made a very good start on the markets (yes, the service/product offering is very nice and will be worth every penny of its market cap, even though there's a lot of speculation). LTS volumes seems to be increasing a lot in the last 24h, even though the distribution to PTS/AGS hasn't matured yet, so it's probably due to the artificial scarcity and we'll probably see an increase in volumes and a price drop upon the maturation of several big players' stacks.

I don't know if there's a link between the impressive trading volumes of BTSX and the increase in volume for LTS...

I do have a feeling though that BTSX gives some serious credibility to every future DAC that will be released from the Bitshares community. I think several investors who missed the boat for the initial increase in value of BTSX will rush to buy shares of DNS as soon as it hits the market.

I might be wrong, but I'm very bullish regarding the future market cap of DNS, as well as the future increase in BTSX market cap as new features will be released. And even though we haven't heard about music DAC progress in a while, I'm pretty sure it will also be a success right upon release...

Everybody, any thoughts about this?

LottoShares / Problem with client upgrade
« on: August 22, 2014, 12:42:49 am »
I'll try to explain my problem here, not sure if it's exactly the right place to do it, but that would be a start.

I saw there was a new client version for LTS, I guess because of the "hard fork"... anyway, not sure I did it the right way, most probably someone will be able to help me.

I uninstalled the older client (I had redeemed my LTS for my PTS/AGS already, but I guess since I didn't erase manually the wallet, it might still be somewhere) and installed the new version. I thought about it after, I know now I should have made a backup of my wallet file first.

Now when I try to start the client, I have the message "Incorrect or no genesis block found. Wrong datadir for network?" message appearing, and I can't seem to find my wallet either. I might appear to be incredibly newb or illiterate of how all this work, but I can live with that.

Is there a solution, or have I just easily got rid of my LTS without having the pleasure of playing them?

Thanks for the help!
