General Discussion / Re: Prediction Markets now available in GUI
« on: January 22, 2016, 01:11:42 am »
I definitely think its too high.  The problem is that its the same operation as force settling any other bitasset.  Some may not want to lower the fee for fear that more people will force settle.

What does everyone else think?
Aren't you a LTM?

Yes.  40bts is not too bad.  I am also making PM purchases of 1000 plus bts so its a small fee if the PM ends up true.

I think this fee is too large to help us get traction with our PM feature.  It is too high to build a business around.

Could something like the nubits liquidity pools work?

e.g We sent/lock  bts and btc to a "pool" for 6-12-24 months and recieve some interest from a worker proposal for doing this, a bot then uses those funds to create bitUSD with HUGE collateral(600%) and maintain a tight peg with BTC. We could have a tight peg like nubits but we can advertise that bitUSD is backed by HUGE colateral and it's not a fractional reserve scheme than can colapse at any time. If this could work, nubits would be destroyed.

I think that could work.  It would be a really great solution since we would only be using a worker proposal to pay interest, rather than providing the collateral as a blockchain.

I settled my test prediction market asset in the GUI today.  It worked, but the fee to settle is 200bts.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: dele-puppy as temporary committee member

I don't think high fees are hurting our adoption.  I also don't think high fees have helped our adoption.

If it was up to me I would probably set all fees to their default except for account_creation fee, which I would set to 90, and all per KB which I would raise substantially.

This would mean 20bts transfer 10k bts LTM.  I think that doubling the fees when our price tanked was not a good idea.

I am of course willing to consider other options and ideas.

Has the tipbot gone rogue?

The best thing we can do is be nice to people who come here with trial balloons.

The product is not the tech.  The product is the network.

That's still dilution.  It's just diluting with a promise to deflate later.  We could do the exact same thing with a worker proposal.

I don't really care if others join in.  I am just running a test, but since I'm changing the price I'm gonna settle on I wanted to be open about it so no one would feel cheated if they did end up joining in.

General Discussion / Adjusted prediction market

I created a prediction market to test creation, and settling.  It is asset BTCPREDICT.  I originally set it as an over under on the price of bitcoin at $450.  Bitcoin then decided to drop $90 and rebound $30.  As no bets have been matched, I have changed the over under price to $380.  I will almost certainly just end up selling some to myself before I settle the asset, but I wanted to be clear about the changes to the asset in case anyone does decide to buy in.

Open ledger never sees your password or private keys.  You do however rely on open ledger to serve up the java script that is the actual wallet.  This java script then runs in your browser.

The risk is that someone could hack open ledger and replace the real wallet java script with java script that would steal your private keys.

You would have to go to open ledger and unlock your account while the server is compromised for this to happen.

If you were to switch to the lite wallet now then you would have no extra risk from having accessed open ledger in your browser on the past.

@fuzzy any idea why my tip didn't trigger?

I could set up a test network.  What Repo would we want to use?  Bitshares or Graphene.

I am thinking the best option would be to modify the Genesis block to only contain the inits and the faucet account.  Put all funding in the faucet account and automatically pay out 1m FakeBTS to all new registrants.

I think I picked the wrong thing to predict in my test prediction market.  Btc is down $50 since I posted it Wednesday.
