General Discussion / Re: Estimated Price of 1 Bitshare
« on: February 20, 2014, 06:08:53 pm »
So, now the cost of BTSX is 2$ a share at most (AGS funding via BTC).
Toast has pledged to prop it up to at least 5$. (I would probably do the same)
That's a 150 % gain in 4 weeks with the only risk being bytemaster & Co. doing the runner with 3 million $ worth in Angel funding ;)

Has everybody run out of BTC or why are Angelshares so cheap at the moment?

you mean cheap compared to their future value or cheap compared to what they were 2 weeks ago?  :P
they aren't cheap now! yesterday BTC only yielded about 45 AGS. It was twice that a couple weeks ago.

General Discussion / Re: The Significance of what we are doing...

Can't say I understand this particular idea. Where there is relative poverty, there will always be crime and violence. I hope I'm wrong.

More generally, where there are imperfect humans there will be crime and violence.  The question is how to minimize it without participating in crime (by which I mean the violation of rights) or initiating violence.
I think about it a lot. Largely because I live in a neighborhood where i witness drug deals with some regularity and crime in general (petty theft mostly) is higher than average. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if nobody bought their drugs on the street and put the street-level dealer out of business. But then I figure that the people into dealing drugs are mostly poor kids who would be getting their money more violently if they couldn't sell dope. Young, uneducated, generally uncivilized -- how will they participate in the economy? What role would these type of people have in a new economy?

I am very excited about the potentials for society and you gave a great talk on that radio station yesterday! Everyone should listen.
Some differentiation: Would you agree that consensus technology can make civil law (partly) unnecessary but not penal law. Or would you want to challenge the centralization of the right to use force by the state? If so how would you want to make sure a violant person (for example a killer) gets arrested?
A violent person would thus be in a virtual jail, living in poverty, until they voluntarily check in to a work facility that provides them food, shelter, and clothing while they work to pay off their restitution.
Can't say I understand this particular idea. Where there is relative poverty, there will always be crime and violence. I hope I'm wrong.

/r/peercoin had a relatively effective marketing campaign by targeting /r/dogecoin, which has a lot of users who are just beginning to explorer cryptocurrency.

BitShares AGS / donating to AGS: "Then what?"
« on: February 10, 2014, 07:27:05 pm »
I have noticed a question pop up now and again on here, the PTS forum, reddit, and similar places.

The question is basically, "so I donate my PTS (or BTC) to the Angelshares address, then what?"

I have been considering this. And it brings me to the most remarkable concept of this technology. A concept that those of us on forums like this already take for granted.

Fundamentally, we just aren't used to this. When I pay my landlord rent in cash, I trust that he will not forget that I gave him his rent, lose the money, or outright lie. When I buy an Apple LISA on ebay, I trust that the person on the other end really is a person with an old computer and that they will send it to the address that I provide.

So how is it that I 'simply donate' my PTS or BTC for AGS? It doesn't compute. Shouldn't I be providing an email address? Shouldn't you be giving me a receipt? Or something? So I donate, and then what?

THERE IS NO THEN WHAT.

And that's why this tech can change everything.

BitShares PTS / Re: "Protoshares is a CPU-mined coin"
« on: January 22, 2014, 01:14:39 pm »
Hello.

I was wondering, what will Protoshares do now their claims seem so be a lie?

Quote
Over the last few months there has been a lot of talk about Protoshares. Protoshares is a CPU-mined coin, which uses a new Proof-Of-Work (POW) algorithm called Momentum , designed to resist GPU and ASIC implementation.
http://protoshares.com/mining.html

So, "What's backing your coin?"

BitShares PTS, unlike most other coins, is backed by something that is actually tangible - rights to shares in a whole family of crypto equities that are themselves designed to be highly profitable businesses.

Further, lessons learned in the momentum algorithm have led to the rapid evolution of technologies that don't require mining to secure the network.  Eliminating the costs of mining doubled the dividends that could be offered and increased the amount of equity in profitable new businesses that could be made available to PTS holders by a factor of five.

Further, the wildly successful AGS funding engine, raising $50,000 or more donations for the industry per day, has greatly accelerating the development, support and promotion of the ecosystem and is accelerating the launch of many new DACs for PTS holders to own.

We are now able to sponsor a BitShares Developers Conference in Las Vegas on July 12-14 dedicated to spreading this technology to many more developers - further accelerating the growth of the ecosystem.

The value proposition of PTS is now easily an order of magnitude greater than the day it was launched little more than 10 weeks ago.

Indeed you ask a great question:  "What's backing your coin?   :)
A very informative reply. I struggle with any of this being really "tangible."

I got into PTS because of the CPU-only algorithm. I'm still going along, but more tentatively. Of course, my total investment could barely buy a decent steak dinner for two, so what do I know?

MemoryCoin / Re: MMC GPU mining is super profitable!
« on: December 31, 2013, 08:45:41 pm »
i'm new to this and don't have a lot of insight to offer, but i'm sticking with mining PTS because i'm uncomfortable with the GPU situation with MMC. but CPU mining is also the entire reason i got into PTS, and then my interest in PTS led naturally to MMC

if gpu mining is a thing with mmc, i'd be out for sure
no longer an if, look for two or three other threads posted here.  It's faster and more efficient than CPU mining
i thought the whole point of protoshares/mmc was that they couldn't be mined with gpu

BitShares PTS / Re: What to use for mining ?
« on: December 31, 2013, 01:47:07 pm »
Just exactly what does this mean ? What is a droplet ?

a droplet is a virtual machine from Digital Ocean. The guide on protoshares.com shows one way to mine and it happens to be on the cloud. If this is your first time mining, then I suggest you start mining locally first to learn about the process and be comfortable with it before spending more money on it.

There are other "pools" you can join to mine with your processor (CPU). It's a bit slow until you get to 1 PTS but you will learn alot along the way.
I'm new to mining and successfully set up CPU mining protoshares and am using ypool. So far i've only mined about 0.2 over 5 days. Can you elaborate on the bolded portion?
