General Discussion / Re: What Is Bitshares? A Financial OS.

I have tried using the phrase, "Bitcoin, with a built-in exchange between internal assets," to explain Bitshares. That doesn't cover everything, but a good chunk of the core tech can be touched on through this theme.

@lafona The delegate hasn't missed a block yet! Nice work. However, it isn't publishing any price feeds. Is that something you would consider adding?

Soon you will have an exchange that you can wire transfer USD to from anywhere in the world and then trade for BitUSD.    Also supported BitCNY and BitEUR.
Trade for BitUSD at parity, or through an order book?

I don't see voting radio buttons. Is it just me?

Maybe you newbie at BTT? Try to make few posts and they you should be able to vote.
I guess so. Looks like I have only 12 posts. Hmph.

I just have to say, the more I get into the nitty gritty of Bitshares, the more awesome it seems. Comparing Bitshares to Bitcoin is like comparing the US Dollar to salt. (Which, by the way, would totally work as a store of value. A very little value.)

We have just crossed the 200M BTS mark of support. If you have not yet voted, please consider adding chronos.payroll.lafona to your slate. Thank you!

Hi Chronos! Congratulations on being elected.
Thanks! I'll take your questions in order.

We know you'll be working on the UI of 1.0 but nothing more has been disclosed. Will you give us some more details on your role?
Well, so much is still under wraps, so I don't want to spill the wrong beans. :) Version 1.0 GUI is implemented as an HTML5 application, so that's my area of focus. This is in contrast to the C++ backend, which drives the blockchain tech. The two applications communicate via websockets.

Will you be coding the UI or just advising & testing?
I'm a coder by trade, so I'm helping to code the HTML5 interface.

Will you give us some examples of user interfaces which you hold in high regard?
This question is slightly off-target, since it's implies I'm a UI designer as Cass is. Instead, it might be better to think of my role as one that gives the design its functionality.

To answer the question, though, perhaps it's sacrilegious to mention this, but I find the Coinbase UI to be very clean.

Once 1.00 is released - can we count on you making some YouTube videos presenting the new UI to newcomers?
You are probably referring to my Chronos Crypto Youtube Channel. At this point, Bitshares is hiring me as a coder, and that channel is a separate brand. However, some sort of partnership is certainly possible in the future.

Thanks for the questions!

I'm going to guess an 11% premium. We haven't seen whether or not market forces will bring the price down to parity.

355
This will be much easier in the new worker/witness/delegate system, when you will be able to simply vote against all worker roles.

I've had good results with Microsoft Azure hosting. I don't know if they meet your pricing requirements, though. (Possibly not.)

By the way, I believe this question should be moved out of BitShares General Discussion.

This delegate has just now crossed into the top 101 -- thank you! However, the job is not finished, because there's currently a lot of, shall we say, "entropy" in the voting system. If you have not voted yet, please add your vote for chronos.payroll.lafona in order to ensure its continued success.

Thank you, everyone!

I can run the delegate. I have had a standby delegate for several months now, and I am currently running delegates for the other dpos based chains. I could set something up this afternoon if that is soon enough and would be happy to answer any questions or concerns.

Since you do not currently run any BitShares delegates, I think I will opt for you to run the delegate to maximize decentralization.  Let me know when you have it set up, the first 2 weeks of pay will go to you directly until you have recovered the setup fee.   After that you can forward the funds on to Chronos.
Hi Lafona, good to meet you! I look forward to working with you on the delegate. Just let me know if you need anything from me. You can reach me by PM on these forums.

Thanks!

Does Bitshares have a "recommended slate" data feed feature? I.E. informed community members publish feeds of recommended votes, and those who subscribe automatically get their votes updated by the client when their feed changes.

101 delegates is too many for the average bear to keep track of. Could be better to offload the research/voting to a vetted feed publisher. This might help with the "voter apathy" problem.

I second the "voting" points. With the new split between delegates, witnesses, and workers, it's particularly important that the UI is clear and easy to understand.

Side note: I had a terrible time registering a new account once, because it had already been registered, but the client didn't realized it due to the fact that the blockchain sync was just starting. Make sure to consider that edge case -- new user experience is often the most important.
