General Discussion / Re: who can tell me what's the GOLD price?
« on: December 28, 2016, 01:36:52 pm »
just wanted to chime in and say that, as a witness and feed script provider, I will update/fix/do whatever is necessary to produce correct feed price for GOLD (as well as for other assets) but as most other people I am currently on holidays with the family, so it will have to wait a week or so.

Nice to hear this. Happy New Year!

An asset is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it (free market supply and demand): even if Yahoo, Google, BTC exchanges or some Government says otherwise.

These sources don't make the price. They just report the market price, which is supposed to be fed to bitshares by witnesses to peg bitAssets to it.

This "free market" argument is irrelevant here. Bitshares is a free market, which needs an accurate price feed from trusted sources to function.

The true price of bitGOLD, bitSILVER, bitUSD, bitGBP, bitCNY bit...

is what someone is "willing to pay" for the assets on the BitSharesDEX or external exchange.

Price feeds are a reference for guidance.

Price feed is not just reference for  guidance, it is the price these coins are supposed to be pegged to. If you peg bitGold to something other than gold, it does not make sense.

It is actually a good time to short, since it is traded at over 100% premium from peg. You can short bit20 now, buy underlying altcoins, then wait when bit20 price drop to peg price and settle debt with profit.

There is no SINGLE PRICE of anything.
It all depends on the subset of buyers and sellers that define specific price on a specific trade. Fortunately, we have some bigger exchanges that have a ticker for those trades.
Unfortunately, we have many of them, some bigger, some smaller. Each exchange has there own price. In fact, every trade has it's own price.

In this case, do we need to be more specific when we create a bitAsset about which index will it be pegged to, like yahoo gold, poloniex BTC, etc?

General Discussion / Re: Update on Chronos Videos
« on: December 22, 2016, 07:16:52 pm »

If you're going to judge by cost per view, you have to do it over time, not right at the beginning.

Yes, sure. Every video on youtube has growth of popularity phase which levels out after some time. Chronos videos is not exception.

But more than anything, it's just plain common sense to understand that it's helpful to have tutorials, especially video tutorials.

Of course it is nice to have video tutorials. The question is how much is it ok to pay for these tutorials? If you pay thousands of $$ for videos which are viewed few hundred times, it does not look like a very efficient way to educate the public. I am not against video tutorials, what I am saying is that their effect could be and should be evaluated qualitatively and some conclusions about their efficiency can be made based on this.  IMO, a straightforward way to evaluate effect of video tutorials is to look at number of views per $$ spent. If this number is low and does not grow with time, there is no point to invest into this project until it is optimized.

But let's have a real conversation about the cost vs. the value.

Ok, let's look at number of views for each video. What cost per viewer is adequate?

In fact money is fleeing bitshares.  Market caps of the two biggest smart coins, bitUSD and bitCNY, have plummeted over the last couple months.

Their market caps are perturbations around zero. Have always been like that since launch. They are not plummeted, this is just random volatility. Next coupled of month they may go up by a factor of 5, but this will still be perturbations around zero.

@oldman

Just to be clear: neither me, nor anybody else here can give you any financial advises. All we can provide is technical guide for using trading bot based on our experience. You should realize that trading is gambling. Unlike casino gambling, you have a little higher chance to win than to lose if you trade the right way, but still you trade at your own risk. Every trading guide made by professional traders out there starts with the warning: never invest more than you can afford to lose.

I think is someone found your robot's trading strategy ,and create a sniper strategy to obtain your bts.

Everything is much simpler than this. Some guy created billions of worthless tokens out of his ass and dumped them on the market.

Instead of buying and selling, the bot appears to have bought (and not sold!) a huge amount of COMPUCEEDS. Why? Why are all the other bots buying and selling, and my bot bought up all the COMPUCEEDS?

Because others are selling at better price than you offer. Check the order book. The way around this is to adjust the spread. To sell more and to buy less, you need to increase buy spread and decrease sell spread, like 10% for buy and 0% for sell (these number are just for example, you need to come up with your own).

Why didn't my bot buy up SILVER, OPEN.BTS, USD etc?

Again, because others are buying at better price than you. During last 24 hours my bot bought and sold over 1 OPEN.BTC for me. Adjust your spread based on current orders and trends.

And of course, you need to be extremely careful when trading such shitty tokens like compuseeds, and never invest into trading more than you can lose without much damage to your budget.

I'm not in this to make a bunch of profit, and would be happy to help with liquidity for no profit, but I think I've just experienced a >20% loss in a couple days!

This can easily happen if the asset which you bought lost in value. When trading, use your brain. The bot can't think for you.

Looking forward to hound my btsbot on it.

I would love to see a trading bot on this market  +5% +5% +5%

There are already some. Btsbot reference price is a bit off now, but it will hopefully adjust. I feel that this coin is going to be successful.
