General Discussion / Re: Article talks about BitUSD
« on: February 27, 2015, 07:58:24 pm »
Also "ultracoin" is mentioned (ultra-coin.com; project by reggie middleton). Did anyone manage to figure out how it works / what technology the project uses. I get that it is supposed to have "smart contracts" but what technology is used to process tx / update the ledger... is it decentralized in any way? It is so much blabla, it's hard to keep on reading about it...

General Discussion / Re: Should Bytemaster's Hangouts Continue? (POLL)
« on: February 27, 2015, 10:30:37 am »
I would like to know the reasoning behind why the mumble hangouts would be bad.

As far as I can remember it was mostly stuff on the blog, the forums and press quotes that caused pr problems.

Not only have some mumble sessions helped clear up a lot of issues, I also find the hangouts a better way to keep track of what's going on than trying to find the information spread out in threads on the forums.
That is also my impression!

I think the video mentions that shapeshift hsa some or develops some software that could do this.

But someone has to pay for that... The user pays the spread which can be big. So I dont see this getting adopted widely...

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Proposal: add the bitDOGE market-pegged asset
« on: February 26, 2015, 10:51:01 am »
I support this as an easy way to attract interest from a huge community. I also think we should add Ripple as a market pegged asset. The best solution would be to simply replace OIL and DIESEL with DOGE and RPY in a future hard-fork. Those two are proving impossible to get started and we'd be much better off having Ripple and Doge.
what do you mean by a future hard fork?

A client update requiring a hard fork, like most of the client updates.
I thought a Bitasset can be created by anyone -> then needs 51 price feeds for it -> then it has a market.
Is it instead the developers (Vikram) decides what Bitassets there are?

No you're right, anyone can create them, but to make XRP you need to pay 500k BTS in order to make an asset you have no control over, so it'll never happen.

However we used to have PPC, LTC and others but those were changed in a hard-fork and replaced with DIESEL and OIL. What I'm proposing is to remove the useless OIL and DIESEL assets and replace them with something useful.
Ok. that makes sense.
And why doesnt it say here that BitGOLD is an ounce of Gold?

Where? The asset description for GOLD is "1 troy ounce .999 fine gold"

There it is. It was not blue like the rest of the fields/text so I overloked it. But I also have say to I easily overlooks such things https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=14423.msg187633#msg187633 :)

General Discussion / Re: cn-members is abusing his mod powers

Let's do cn members and the bonds of western and chinese members a favor and not accuse each other.

The post on bm blog was a misunderstanding. CN members has a tough job of building communication bridges between western com. members and chinese members who suffer more from clumsy communication on BM side because of the language barrier.

So you are saying the Mercury wallet as it is today is "extremely dangerous"? If so I didnt understand why.

With the current setup of Bitcoin, you would need to wait just above 100 confirmations to do secure ACCT (Atomic Cross Chain Trading). This would be 1 full round of all delegates for DPOS (about 15-20 minutes atm). These intervals don't make sense for trading. For ACCT to become viable for any chain (without waiting too much) you need a PBFT or PBFT-like real-time Consensus and Ordering Protocol (COP) on top of the main blockchain to make ACCT viable.

That, or the light client trading server does Paypal-like fraud detection and compensates counterparty risk accordingly with pretty high trading fees (anywhere from 0.5-4% of each transaction).
