Technical Support / Re: BitsharesX Version 0.4.7 Report
« on: August 23, 2014, 05:36:30 pm »
I've had three crashes so far since running 0.4.7.  When the wallet crashes, it sends a report. But then I cannot open the wallet again by double-clicking on it. I have to restart the computer to be able to run the wallet. It's currently syncing, hopefully if it completely syncs then I wont have any issues.

Also, since I imported my wallet and it hasn't completely synced yet, I am not seeing a config.json file in the appdata/roaming/Bitshares X folder   and without the config.json I cannot add the chain server. This might be an issue that needs looked at. Also some people are reporting the chain server is not working anymore.

The reason you can't reopen the wallet after some of those crashes is that there's still a BitsharesX process running in the background.  Instead of restarting, you can kill that process using the task manager and then you should be able to run it again.
Oh man, thank you! I can't believe I didnt think of that

Technical Support / Re: .dat files associated with vlc player
« on: August 23, 2014, 04:20:17 pm »
I had VLC player installed on the family laptop and my father was trying to use the laptop one day to transfer his Itunes song purchases to an MP3 player. Some of the songs were working, but a majority of them wouldn't play. I tried helping him a bit, but I didnt know ANYTHING about ITunes ( I stopped paying for music 15 years ago)

So my dad is frustrated and he says "I think its this VLC player thing, its trapped the songs or something."

The VLC player recognised the files, through file association.
I just laugh and TRY to explain him that vlc was just reading those songs as media that it could open. Well....Dad was still skeptical, I get frustrated watching him do stuff on the computer because of all the malware he's installed in the past. Once he was having trouble with Internet Explorer (that says everything) so he just starts downloading random packages from the first sites that popped up when he did a search for "Internet Explorer error blah blah" It took me several days, and the help from a professional to remove the nasty hijack malware he installed.

Back to the story, so I'm watching him struggle and I decide to just Google the issue. I learn that some songs are drm protected, and won't work in the mp3 player. I tell him this, but he still presses on. He gets up for a moment so I quickly check to see what damage he has caused, luckily the AV zapped the random package he had downloaded. I also noticed he had done several searches for VLC player virus, VLC player traps files, and VLC player uninstall.

So Dad on his way back, and I say "Do you really think the VLC player is causing this issue?"

"Well it's the only thing that is constant about those files I'm having trouble with.l

"Ok but remember the DRM protection I just told you about, that's why the files won't play.  But just to prove you wrong, let's clear the mp3 player, let's remove the vlc player, restart the computer, and REDO the whole process, delete the songs and re-download the songs"

So we do that, transfer them to the mp3 player , and BAM IT WORKS!!!!

NO, actually it didnt work. I printed out the DRM info and made DAD read it.

Sorry a bit off topic, but Dad will return in "Hmmm....let's go into the Task Manager, and look at the Processes list. Ok, those processes look strange, win32.exe chrome.exe etcetera, I will just  find these .exe and delete them."

I'm excited for this. Even though I'm comfortable with the platform, I'm sure I'll learn something. Will we be able to ask questions?

I guess I better check every post to make sure nobody had picked my date before I did !!! :-)

Technical Support / Re: BitSharesX 0.4.5 Wallet Crash Windows 7
« on: August 22, 2014, 09:10:56 pm »
Hey,

Cause of Problems with sync of my BitSharesX Wallet I uninstalled it completely and downloaded and installed the 0.4.5 Wallet for Windows (7). The Problem is that the program is crashing after few minutes. Now there are still 30 days left to sync. Can anyone help? How can I stop the crashes?

Thanks.

We will need more information about the crash.

Windows: %APPDATA%/BitShares X (Try going to Start->Run and opening %APPDATA%, then open the BitShares X folder)

Then post the log file here....

Also try using the chain server...

https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares_toolkit/wiki/Using-Chain-Servers

Thanks bytemaster, I was having crashes today so I added the chain server and it works great! Excellent wiki instructions on how to add the chain server to the config.json file.

Technical Support / Re: there no transactions...

i just lost my btsx,  blocks are synced, and there no transactions...

my btsx address: BTSX4yvAV87aSSVBChVs2KXkuEoqikamACT6zZpPmrmHUj6hmvLJCH

Did you import your old wallet?

i forgot my wallet password, so i delete the wallet , and then import the Private key, then it become 0btsx...
If you forgot your password then importing your wallet isn't going to work because you'll still need the password.

If you imported a wallet from another software for your credited btsx, then I don't know how that would work, but I can set how you would have a zero balance.

If you need help I think you need explain in DETAIL what happened. Did you import a backup you made from The BitShares X wallet, or was it a wallet key from another BitShares program?

Technical Support / Re: Sync form scratch *extremely* slow

bump.  using version 0.4.5.

syncing gets stuck every time.  already did a full re-install and imported mywallet.json.

haven't fixed the issue since last night.  and the wallet keeps crashing.

any other ideas how to get this fixed??
Lucky,

I had to uninstall the previous version and delete THE WHOLE BITSHARES X folder in APPDATA/ROAMING.

Then install 0.4.5 and accept agreement, then File, import wallet.

The blockchain started at zero, but I didnt have any issues, it synced in about an hour.

it's what i did.  still get the same issue.  and it crashes, so i sent a couple of crash reports.
I was having crash reports happen as well, until I completely deleted the BitShares X folder in %appdata%

Are you competely removing that folder? And uninstalling the previous version?

That's the only way I could get mine to work.

DAC PLAY / Creating a charity with Bitshares for Cat Shelter
« on: August 22, 2014, 03:18:19 am »
I've been helping my mother rescue cats since I was a child, for 22 years. And presently I've been working on helping her raise donations online.

Would it be possible to create an DAC, or asset an issue shares to create funding?

What other ways could I utilize BitShares to help fund the cat rescue?

Thanks!

RPC Server Error: In method 'wallet_transfer': AES error (18)

I also have transactions that have been pending forever?
I had that issue when I first installed. I had to uninstall all previous versions and delete THE WHOLE bitshares x file from appdata/roaming and then install, accept agreement, and import wallet.

The more detailed instructions are in my post at the top of this thread.

I just wanted to update:

My method of doing a fresh install and wallet import after uninstalling 0.4.5 and  completely deleting the C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X folder worked! My wallet was imported with ease, and the blockchain is fully synced!

 +5% for me!

Thanks to devs who make this awesome software and quickly update it!

Technical Support / Bitshares X 0.4.5 available

Anyone having difficulty with 0.4.5 should install the new 0.4.5 You can download it at:

http://bitshares-x.info/about.php

If you get the error crashrpt 1402.dll is missing, then you can download that file at:

https://github.com/dacsunlimited/bitsharesx/raw/master/CrashRpt/bin/CrashRpt1402.dll

In order for me to get a successful syncing to start, I MADE A BACKUP BY EXPORTING MY WALLET TO MY DESKTOP FROM THE MY WALLET SOFTWARE. Then I uninstalled the software, version 0.4.4 for me might be older for you, and then I deleted the BitShares X folder in C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X (I also made a backup of the folder on the desktop, just in case there was an issue)

I then installed the 0.4.5 software, opened it, accepted the agreement, It will take you to the create a new wallet section, I clicked on File, Import wallet and imported the JSON backup from my desktop. The software asks for the password for the wallet that's being restored. I think it also makes a backup of the current wallet, I dont really know.

So now I have my wallet imported and I am syncing back from the start, the reason I did this is because when I first installed 0.4.5 I was getting stuck with the syncing, I don't know if this was because of the fork that someone mentioned in a thread today, or perhaps just a bug with the software, or MOST LIKELY just was my ineptitude and incompetence. LOL. I hope this works, it will take awhile for the wallet to be completely synced up. I'll report back, and hopefully this thread might help someone that was having issues like me. But I imagine most of you are much better with this stuff than me.

Thanks!
