Meta / Re: Message to the Developers
« on: December 17, 2017, 05:27:02 pm »
Oh look, 4 new users showing up the same day after 4 years of silence with a single message, and one dude making a fuss, calling the devs psychopaths, THE DAY AFTER the 4 aforementioned users wrote their single message. 100% legit.

Yes, this is a common issue. That is kind of my point. The people who invested in this project in good faith years ago are today being completely ignored and generally treated awfully.

That is the wrong way to behave toward the guys who helped make the project what it is today. Generally when someone invests in a project and the project does well the faith and vision from early investors is rewarded. The exact opposite is occurring with this project. That is the wrong attitude.

I am wondering how this can be allowed to happen and why so many people on this forum believe they are justified to act this way?

Can you please look a little bit more like a righteous, not BitShares specific, angry bot? Thanks a lot.

BTS will probably crash with BTC, at least in $ value. Hopefully the price in BTC will increase during the crash, but I wouldn't bet on that. I would say that a good entry price for BTS would be 4-5 cents. It might go back to a cent, who knows. It might also never go back down. As always, the rational thing to do when you have such uncertainty and no objective way to tell what is cheap is to use "dollar cost averaging": choose how much you want to buy, buy 10% of that amount every week or every month at whatever price. But this requires high self control, at least more than what most of people in crazy cryptoworld can muster.

Does this coin have a future?
Only Mcavoy5 can provide information about what it is supposed to be. My guess is that no, this coin doesn't have any future, bu who knows. Sharedropping is a kind of advertising: treat it like a flyer that gives you $0.05 of BTS if you accept to read the name written on it  :P.

General Discussion / Re: Poloniex withdraw issue cause as bad reputation

do you think its good idea to buy cheap BTS in Polo now and withdraw when the ''issue'' is fixed? Is somebody doing that from here?
I still buy BTS in polo yes. The blockchain is up, they still have the funds. They controlled it not so long ago, so I guess it will come back to normal at some point... but it's risky of course. Poloniex already did that once, and answered no questions if I remember correctly.

Shame on me to still use this exchange. But their huge advantage is the lending feature, earning huge interests while still holding your BTS is irresistible to me :(

How much interest are you receiving?

DEX offers the same feature by shorting HERO with BTS and pays 5% and helps drive the price of BTS up at the same time.
Ahah no you get 5% per year on your HERO if you convert your BTS to HERO, but you're not holding BTS anymore, you're holding HERO, and 5% per year is nothing in cryptoworld. The interest rates you can see in poloniex lending tab are daily rates. Taking compounding (and the polo 15% tax) into account, a 0.1% per day rate translate into 37% interest per year. And currently I have some active loans giving 1% interest per day (these very high rates never last very long, but it is still a guaranteed win). That translates in very substantial gains while still holding BTS, the only risk being poloniex losing the funds... which is a very active risk right now. Implementing a lending feature paying interests for all kinds of margin trading in the BitShares DEX would be awesome and was planned for initially, but it requires a lot of liquidity in the markets to be viable.

On est au moins 3 !
Nous sommes des pionniers ! :)

Wow, now I cannot see "poloniexwallet" in the BitShares client, how does that happen?
It's still there in cryptofresh https://cryptofresh.com/u/poloniexwallet

My guess regarding the cause of the problem is that the automatic handling of BTS transactions fail because of the transaction fail bugs (every time I make a transaction from the BTS client I have such a bug the first time I try, but the transaction passes the second time), and so their system for handling BTS automatically stops working.

I hope those bugs will be corrected with the coming hard fork.

Hi, thanks for the update.

It's not the first time Poloniex messes things up with BTS deposits/withdrawals while the BTS blockchain is fine, thankfully it never really failed yet. I guess (and hope) the support guys don't have direct access to the poloniexwallet BTS account.

My last deposit to poloniex has not been credited either, I'm still waiting for poloniex support to process my ticket.. but if it's a BitShares bug, that's worrying. I don't think it can be a fork, but it sure isn't normal. I note that 2, 3, 4, and 5 days ago transaction are only in poloniexwallet -> user direction, not a single user -> poloniexwallet  https://www.cryptofresh.com/u/poloniexwallet.

My Tx that wasn't credited: https://www.cryptofresh.com/tx/81f7e299ac260c07a871b4895aad95cf3284818f

we currently pay a developer to add black swan recovery... why do you investors not know about this? especially with a "significant" investment?

Ok, good news, thanks. We all have our reasons for what we do or not do, but I don't like your tone here. I love the technology and was completely convinced by Dan Larimers very well expressed arguments, but I don't love following what X or Y is doing now, I don't have the ability to read code, and I'm generally lost on github. I have spent a considerable amount of time learning about BitShares back in the old days, and written a big article about it in French, but I haven't followed that closely since the launch of steemit because I dislike it, and I dislike the fact that most interesting discussions are now happening on steemit and not in this forum, so I almost stopped following what was going on. Sorry for doing what I think best for myself with my time.

BitGOLD doesn't have a price feed anymore, maybe since june, I don't remember when I first realized that. First I thought it was due to the fact that there was a blackswan event, but if that was the case, my bitGOLD would have been converted into BTS, right? Without price feed, what happened to the collateral of short positions? Is it stuck until a price feed comes back?

I have a significant stake in BitGOLD, so I'm quite nervous about losing this money, and this actually makes me doubt about all bitAssets, I can't be sure that they will sustain a value, that's a big bummer (and it will cost me a lot of money if the price feed never comes back).
