General Discussion / [Howto] How to deploy a web wallet service
« on: April 25, 2015, 01:19:58 am »
While still in beta phase, many people found web wallet service very useful while introducing bitshares to new friends. Here I introduce how to setup a web wallet service for bts.

Check it out:

1. in the internal market page, the timestamp of trading history is not shown:

2. Sometimes in your account page, there would be acoount of others listed. While surely (or sadly) you cannot spend money of those acoounts, this situation is kind of bothering.

Stakeholder Proposals / Generate minimal BTS binaries for each purpose
« on: April 16, 2015, 02:23:18 pm »
[Current Situation] current bitshares_client is a single all-in-one binary, which contains all features and each of them occupies resuources no matter you need them or not. For example, when running bitshares_client as a delegate on a VPS, I only need it to produce blocks, so other functions are just un-necessary but they still consume resources like zombi processes. Another very important example is that, when I am building a online store accepting crypto curencies, all I need is a bitshares_client with only wallet functions just like bitcoind. Once again, other features are unnecessary and become burden to VPS. On my VPS, running bitcoind only requires ~150mb ram, while bitshars_client occupies ~1gb ram (so I need to use more expensive VPS if I insist to use BTS).

[Proposal] Just like most open source projects, which can turn off features like "./configure --market=disable", we need to be able to do the same thing and generate minimal bitshares_client that just fit specific usages.

When i lose faith in BTS i buy BitUSD.

good move :D
+5% +5%

Buy BitCNY , you can use it as CNY directly in BTC38 on 1:1 ratio with no spread .  :P

General Discussion / Re: What's happening with the price?
« on: March 13, 2015, 03:00:57 pm »

Why the fuck the release data changed again and again?
This is a very  slow progress.
Thats why the price was acting like a shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have a terrible attitude and nobody owes you anything.

What are you doing to make bitshares better besides bitching?
terrible attitude?thats the fucking reality.
Don‘t acting you do a lot to bitshares, bitch.
I have tons of shares to vote  for 100% delegate,I bought and mined PTS since day 1,you dare say i do nothing to bitshares?
你们这些老外一个个就是装逼犯,一天不装逼就不舒服

I understand the frustration with the delayed release, but as toast posted a while ago, 1.0 is over hyped and shouldn't be a huge catalyst or mystery potion for the price.

Still, throwing temper tantrums and spewing insults isn't going to get more people to buy bitshares or get the devs to even consider your opinion.  Why not focus all this energy on something productive for bitshares? Unless of course you want to see it fail...

I agree that is overrated and that it shouldn't bring nothing new to the price because it is essential to have a working wallet.

Let me give you my example:

Until November I managed to have a BTSX wallet on my computer. Then things started glitching. Every new update was slower and crashing more and more. Numerous crash reports etc.. I lost my mind with it and transferred all of my BTS to btc38. I couldn't anymore wait for the wallet to re-synchronize and re-index. My BTS were still on the exchange when bter hack happened. Yesterday I decided not to play with the faith if btc38 gets hacked as bter did. I downloaded a wallet thinking how more than 3 months have passed and how something had to change. Nothing!! I sent over 10 crash reports etc.. I cannot even import the wallet from my json file anymore. I lost it completely and sold all of my BTS this morning at the loss. I just don't have nowhere to hold them. Wallet doesn't work, web wallet is not secure, exchange - there is no way I am holding my money over there anymore. I will rather miss on some of the BTS growth if it happens than to lose all of my money how it could have happened with bter.

Now I am very tech savy. I've been in BTC for over 2 years, NXT since the beginnings and BTS as well. If I have lost my mind, what do you think will happen to a complete noob??

From my perspective the new wallet is not overrated, it is completely essential!!!

P.S. I am reading today that people can't even withdraw their BTS from bter since the faulty wallet. Completely understandable.

follow this , you'll be able to restore your old backup .

If your wallet was exported a json format backup file (.json) on 0.5.X version , and you try to import it in 0.6.1 or 0.6.2 , it won't work even if you input the correct password .

(backup the current wallet before the instruction below , in case something goes wrong )

You need to download 0.5.3 version wallet software , install it , then import the backup file , exit the wallet from file menu .

Then , you can re-install the 0.6.2 version wallet , now you would be able to use your wallet and the account in it .
And you can backup the wallet again by exporting an json file of this new version , it won't have the same issue next time .

This issue has reported by several users before , maybe there is a thread somewhere mentioned this solution , but some people couldn't find it .

One suggestion from the chinese community: the content of app.js.map is in plain text,  it can be compressed and cached locally to save the bandwidth.

On the other hand,  I also think the identicon is great,  and I wonder whether the identicon can be used in reverse: input the identicon figure and it can be reversed into an account name? I found some discussion elsewhere and guess it is possible right? I think it could be great if we can use mobile wallet to scan identicon and complete transaction.

My intention was to help the communication between multiple parties in a more effective way without causing confusion .
It's 4:00 AM in my time and I'm still trying to do that .

It was never the intention of silence you .
If you ask around , you would know I help many people expressed their opinions .

Sorry to hurt your feeling . I must go to sleep now .

General Discussion / Re: Why did the mods delete the Spokesman post?
« on: February 25, 2015, 07:26:41 pm »
After further communication with multiple parties , this blog post was a result of misunderstanding .  It was supposed to send to the developers and marketeers to discuss further and provide inputs base on their opinions but instead made its way on the blog  due to misunderstanding and with some new information left out  .

To avoid further confusions , I would like to help communicate with multiple parties to get all the facts right , so I remove the thread for the time being .

Just heard from development , abstract geometry maybe be used to replace robot avatar . Run on local machines by javascript .

Don't need a centralized server .

The btc/bts market isn't very liquid. Would it be best to deposit btc and then exchange for cny?  Then buy bts in the much more liquid bts/cny market? Will this work for an American investor?

:P no one is stopping you for trying ....

It's Chinese new year holiday for at least 1 week .....
