If I told you I originally signed up for the account model and the password doesn't work to log in, would you believe me? I honestly did and can do it again with similar results. Is it possible there's a bug with this? I think I understand the wallet/account model to the way you're describing it except for one big issue which is the password is not working for my account.

If you can outline an exact step-by-step process which can followed by anyone to reproduce the bug, then we can consider it a bug, and can take appropriate actions to fix it. Until then, there just isn't enough data, no matter how strongly you plead- this isn't a game of belief.

I agree with you. I thought my case was one of many but now I know it's a one of potentially common misunderstanding rather than a bug.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

You still create an account even if you use the wallet model, but the private keys of that account are then stored in what we call the wallet, as opposed to the account/password model where the private keys are generated from your password.

I don't know why this took me so long to understand this aspect of it. But this makes 2000% sense to me now. This is great. Thank you. Not great for me as someone who signed up an account through wallet model and didn't back up the wallet so the private keys are stored in a wallet that's not backed up and my browser has been cleared. You're the best. I completely signed up through wallet model and THEN created an account after most likely which would result in me attaching my private keys of the account to the wallet.

Cannot say how reassured I am of the system now.

Keep up the great work and thanks for helping newbies like me.

The account model let's you login directly from new computers or browsers without using a backup file, that's why it's convenient.

The wallet model is tied to a database stored in the specific browser and computer you first used to create the account. If you want to use it anywhere else, you need to restore from a backup.

If I told you I originally signed up for the account model and the password doesn't work to log in, would you believe me? I honestly did and can do it again with similar results. Could be easy to write it off as I didn't do the right thing, but I'm pleading with you that I did. I didn't even know what a wallet was (at the beginning while signing up) and didn't toggle over for my registration. Now, if I created one in the future it would not have deleted my account password, so in theory I should be able to log back on to the original account on a different browser using my initial set up account.

Not trying to debate, just trying to get access to my account back and enjoy the bitshares site more and more with voting and referring and keeping bts moving into hero, but I want to do so using the account model for less stress rather than maximum security. Right now, for me, the account model is absolutely in no way working other than if I create a new account every time (which I prefer not to do) or use exclusively the wallet model (which I'm not crazy about but will do).

td;dr: I understand the wallet/account model set up. My account password still won't work with the account I initially set up. Can we bring this up as a bug? I promise you I have an account I set up that's not a wallet -- trevor-utz.

Bless you for responding.

I say mutually exclusive because new accounts are only setup to use one or the other, not both.

Nothing is disabled, switching models in the GUI is just a simple interface switch that determines how the GUI lets you login, it has no effect on your account.

Both models use passwords, that doesn't mean your wallet password can be used with the account model without you actively modifying the permissions of your account.

The only way for you to switch from a password model to wallet model is to copy all your private keys (active, owner, memo) and import them into a newly created wallet. If you did not do that, you never switched from password to wallet but always had wallet.

How did I ever set up an account then? I have an account signed in. I actually have two at this point. I can't sign into either of them to make changes. I can see my newest account in the top right but when I try to login under the account model it will not let me with my password. I do have accounts. trevor-utz and trev-utz. trev-utz is currently active on my browser.

My two passwords for wallet and account have been the same so technically wouldn't I be able to use them in order to sign into each other?

I'm still confused on how the account password works as it has never worked for me. The wallet works solid. No complaints at all.

To clarify again, I do have accounts made and signed up with the same password I've used for all my actions including making a wallet (probably not the safest).

Again, can't thank you enough for taking the time to explain a newbie question.

In order to move to a new browser you need to restore your wallet using the backup.

A couple of follow up questions for clarification.

So the account model is mutually exclusive and therefore when I created a wallet on my account it deactivated my account model?

I can no longer use the account model if wallet model is activated? I think this has been confusing some people as well and I certainly hope I'm no the only one confused. At some point I did in fact activate and register an account with a password and now the password does not work.

Is this because of my switching to wallet model? If so how would I recover my account? Is it even possible? I've been using the same password for all of these and it only works with the wallet not the account.

Thanks for being active in this forum. Love the community and platform. Don't want people to leave because of technical issues.

If you have a backup that means you are using the wallet model, which also means you cannot use the account + password login. If you want to move to another computer or browser you need to activate the wallet model and restore from your backup.

I signed up originally under the account model. The account name is trevor-utz. I could pm my password, but I never originally signed up for the wallet. I only used the wallet method afterwards to check to see if I could transfer accounts to different browsers or to the desktop application. Wallet method worked for transfers.

Would switching to a wallet model basically deactivate your account you created? Is there any way to log back into the account even without a wallet attached? I am positive I have an account. I have transactions that are associated with the account and a balance. If switching to a wallet model renders the account you signed up for useless, that seems very confusing.

Password was said to be incorrect when trying to transfer browsers on the account method. Maybe something to look into.

I appreciate the fast response and attention. I have heard this issue coming from some people in tele chat as well. Same problem as me. The password for the account works internally to unlock default wallet that comes with the account-model account. However the password does not work when transferring browsers.

Also having password issues. I am positive the password is correct.

I created a new account and cannot access using password unless wallet is set up along with it. Is this built into the system this way? I was told it should work independently of the wallet model, but it seems very dependent on the wallet.

I would say the accounts and passwords needs to be improved. I've tested this a couple of times and came back with errors before when I hadn't in the past. Regardless, I have backups now so I am able to access the account, but this seems like a huge misleading problem to people who know their passwords and are getting the incorrect password screen.
