Seraphin, I am a software engineer and as a group we generally do not except the concept of "no way" to do something :)

A little imagination goes a long way - my point is voting based on coins in possesion is in my opinion a horrible system.   All I need to do is go buy up as many coins as I can on a voting cycle, vote and sell.

There is a better solution out there- I appear to be one of the few if not the only one that is bothered by it though so I guess its not a issue to the community.

I just really don't like systems that are that easily hacked - its a wonderful addition to the coin - I just dont agree with the implementation.  Thats just my .00002 mmc :)

I will be back home (traveling at the moment) Friday or Saturday night - as soon as I am back I will setup a shared hosting account at Go Daddy and if I am able to get it working well - I can setup about 15 more.

Does it matter what host name I use?  I have a few domains  that I really dont care much about that I can donate to the cause if host-name is not important.

Thanks,

MemoryCoin / New Wallet with Miner configuration
« on: February 13, 2014, 05:47:51 am »
I have a question about the configuration for the new release of the Wallet with Miner.

I would like to be able to have turn off specific pools entirely in some instances - as I do not want to deal with having small sums in the 2 non primary pools - but I do not see any obvious configuration to do this - is there anything I can do to turn off specific pools using the Wallet miner?

Memory Coin QT version 4.8.5

Thanks,

Brian

Question -

Why the vote weight?   That is honestly the major problem I have with Memory Coin as a platform - the fact that voting is weighted by number of coins owned.

This system basically destroys the entire concept of voting - as early adopters or those with the biggest $ to throw at it - will always win.   There will never be a true community represented congress with this system.

It seems like your proposing the make this system of meritocracy even stronger.

Voting will be publicly visible.
Aforementioned parties will have a vote weight (different from our Wallet voting - Each vote counts 1)
CMO team members vote weight = 70%
MemoryCoin community vote weight = 30%

I think you will be a great CMO and you will get my vote anyway - I just wanted to take this opportunity to suggest to you that you rethink the vote weighting.

In my opinion voting should be by individual - and limited to 1 vote per person.    While I understand that could be difficult because of the anonymity of the system - there are several ways to implement this via email address, payment address, etc.    This would be a TRUE democratic system.

Its hard to argue that meritocracy is stronger in any way then democracy.  If the purpose is to keep the creators/developers in power - then take those titles away and make the platform a representative monarchy type system where those that are the founders cannot be voted out?

Just my suggestion - I really have no complaints about the coin, my complain is the voting system.   I simply choose not to use it because it is a waste of time to vote if you do not have very large sums of MMC.    I believe many in the community probably feel the same.

This is not ment to offend anyone or to start a discussion on the coin voting system - I am just letting the candidate know what I feel about his platform and how he could ensure my vote.

On a side note- I have done international business with stalemate and he is a stand up/honest business man and easy to do business with, especially considering he is in Turkey and I am in Arizona, USA.

Thanks,
Brian

what are the suggested specs for a host machine?   I work for a major hosting company - so I get a very steep discount.  If it can run in a shared hosting environment its about $1 a month for high end shared hosting.

Virtual and Dedicated are a bit more costly - but depending on bandwidth I am pretty sure I can get it to happen.

Just let me know what type of hardware/bandwidth is required - if it will run on a shared server I can spin up a few of them pretty quick.

Before I say yes - I would like to take a look at what your working on to make sure its something I am comfortable with - but I will definitly give it go.

I have been working with Python for about 3 years now - so I am pretty comfortable with it - however most of the work I do with Python is Hadoop/Big Data related.

Toss me an email and lets talk.   brian@briangaer.com

Who could I talk to about volunteering to help with development?

I am a software engineer with over 15 years experience - Java, Pyton, .Net, Ruby, some PHP, SQL, and Web Development.

I have a few ideas for some simple addtions to the website and have played with some code from other coins, wallets and exchanges - so would be interested in learning more about volunteering to help with MMC if possible.

No problem - hope it can be of help to others if they experience the same issue.

I have to say so far I have mined about 7 coins and by far MMC is my favorite.  The community, the lack of need for specialized hardware, the documentation and community support is outstanding.

OK I got it working - here is what I had to do in case anyone else runs into this.

As mentioned - step number 1 is to make a copy of your wallet.dat so you dont lose your coins.

After that

#1 - Uninstall from Control Panel/Programs/ Uninstall

#2 - Delete everything from c:\users\[username\app data\roaming\memory coin

#3 - delte everyhthing from the install directory where you had memory coin

#4 - reboot.

#5 reinstall

#6 once it starts up with no issues, close it - replace your backup wallet.dat file with the new one that was created so you get your coins back

#7 restart memory coin.

Thanks for the help everyone.

So I uninstalled, went to c:\users\bgaer\appdata\roaming\memorycoin and delted everything there.

Reinstalled the latest version.

And still having the same issue.    It starts up - I see the splash screen, then it minimizes to the task bar.   I double click on it to get it to acutally open the wallet window and it gives the same error as I mentioned above.    It ran fine until about 2 days ago.

I went thru and deleted everything i have on my machine related to MMC except the wallet.dat and the backup of the wallet.dat.   Which I zipped up and put on my external hard drive -so now even that is not on my computer.

I guess i will try doing the entire process again and this time rebooting after install and maybe check the registry?  I cannot understand what could possibly be wrong.

THanks,

Brian

MemoryCoin / Mining Issues
« on: February 09, 2014, 08:59:12 pm »
Hi There,

I had MMC Client running fine on my laptop for a few days, but then one day it would no longer start - it starts up and shows in the taskbar, but when I click on it from the task bar it says:

Cannot obtain a lock on data directory c:\users\bgaer\appdata\roaming\memorycoin   Memory Coin is probably already running  - when i check task manager only 1 instance is running.

I have rebooted, repaired, uninstalled(after backing up wallet) and reinstalled - but always the same error.

I then tried installing it on an older desktop - which has a 32 bit processor - but apparently there is not a 32 bit miner?

Any help would be appreciated with the laptop issue and is there a 32 bit miner out there?

Lastly - for older folks like me - the post verification on this forum for the captcha - is absolutly horrible.  It is VERY hard to read even when i put my glasses on.

Thanks,

Brian
