General Discussion / Re: Should we Abandon Proof of Stake Marketing?

there is another way to describe DPOS consensus without using POS.

Leave it alone, focus, get back to work, get us the list of stuff promised on the bitshares.org homepage. Please.

What about C3PO, "Consensus based 3-Party-Order", where three refers to delegates, witnesses, and workers ?

You need to have a white paper discussing the byzantine tolerance, the possible attack vectors, the mitigation, the game theory etc etc - then you will at least have something to direct people towards.
Honestly, I agree with this.
I would love to help out here, but I have no idea about all the details that Dan already figured out in his head

Delegated Proof of Stake gets Proof by Elected Delegates, PED.

Does anyone know the current Bitshares specs to update the Bitshares column on this page?

General Discussion / Re: Factom-like feature in Bitshares
« on: January 12, 2016, 03:51:04 pm »
Obviously, we are in favor of having a Factom-like feature in Bitshares - partially also because the Bitshares blockchain is that fast. Maybe it is a stupid question, but since we are currently not aware of the technical details: Is it possible to transmit a payload of, e.g., 1kb or so with a Bitshares (BTS or FBA or whatever) transaction? (In a similar manner than in Bitcoin?) To us, Factom is nothing more than a link between hashvalue and payload. Maybe it would be a good idea in that regard to allow to scale payload sizes with an increasing fee. Anyway, according to your ansers, there is nothing alike in the works in the Bitshares universe, right?

General Discussion / Factom-like feature in Bitshares
« on: January 11, 2016, 04:39:31 pm »
This topic shall discuss possibilities and use-cases for  BTS as a basis for Factom-like services in order to "sign"/timestamp documents, i.e., arbitrary files. To us, the Factom-approach of a 'virtual notary' appears the best approach to deliver a valueable service to people and industry that is needed frequently and virtually everywhere. Actually, since the idea should be more or less easy to implement into any coin or blockchain, we expect this feature to become 'blockchain standard' at some point in the (near) future.

We consider such kind of notary service (as integral part of Bitshares, or as additional service) quick and painless to (rudimentary) implement. As we are not following all the planet-wide developments here, we simply open a new topic on this matter (given that there is no comparable topic like this at bitsharestalk, to the best of our knowledge).

- What is needed in order to implement a rudimentary notary service using the Bitshares blockchain? Could BTS be used directly? Does this or a similar approach already exists in the Bitshares universe?

- In case someone builds a new notary software in the Bitshares universe, like the Factom-client, could one expect that the current Bitshares 2.x API will 'always' be there or, at least, being backward-compatible? That is probably the most crucial point for any software development on the Bitshares blockchain. How does Cryptonomex is handing/thinking about this?

More thoughts on this probably come soon.. how are you seeing this, what are your thoughts?

Nothing lasts forever.. I also say NO to lifetime fees!

If there will be a lifetime fee going to the "individual", I would also like to put some money on the table.... and, I guess, I am not the only one. Let's do it via some form of kickstarter initiative then! Crowdfund it! More angeles!

BM, many thanks for the good read! We enjoyed it and it was about time to see such a reflection :)

From our point of view, the Bitshares network needs (even) more scalable ideas to grow and get the deserved attention. Freedom, decentralized exchanges, currencies, coins, assets are nicely scalable, but the new black is elsewhere. We believe it is "securitization of things". UIA (and so on) could serve as the perfect basis for this! Agreed, other crypto coins support a couple of the required features too, but Bitshares is unique in that it offers virtually all the goodies, not just one or a few of them. Also, this is what still keeps us investing into the Bitshares network!

Now, it needs companies / legal entities / start-ups to build upon this framework. We wonder if Cryptonomix is interested in that business model, too. Cryptonomix, in the US, would be perfectly suited in our opinion. We are about to do the same in Switzerland.

cagara: EtherWizard, as I have nothing left this cannot unveil any position of mine. Well I started with 960 BTC here, margin trading and BTS got my down to 11 BTC

Wow, either he's being a massive lying troll...or he's a truly shit trader who doesn't deserve to have that much money to begin with.

In his defense, if BTS hadn't just been a massive pump and dump around 2.0 and Devs had actually delivered one like.. ONE of their promises maybe price hadn't dropped 85%

Facts??

Btw, what is the cause of the current Bitshares depression?

(a) People leaving Bitshares to buy Bitcoins?
(b) General lost of interest in Bitshares due to BTS 2.0 machinery?
(c) Is the BitUSD-BTS-link part of "the problem" with the declining BTS/BTC rate?
(d) Are people giving up on Bitshares because the GUI is still buggy?
(e) ...

Just brainstorming here.

Haha, what a funny comment by BM. Bytemaster are you in some crisis right now? Don't be, Bitshares is great and best! PM me if you need company support or so.

Just because all Chinese guys are leaving Bitshares to go long in Bitcoin doesn't mean Bitshares is dying :-D

It is the other way around, now it is time to get people interested in (cheap) Bitshares as this is still the very only Blockchain >2.0 network that (i) works, and (ii) is under very active development. If the price is low - guess what. It is time to buy in and also to finally build some smart applications around the Bitshares environment (e.g., to fix the overly crappy GUI, etc; maybe not in Javascript, hint). Maybe it is even time to think about 100% re-implementing the Bitshares core such that it runs perfectly on server farms and cluster environment (required for large scale payment processing).

Hey, Bitshares is still by far the most innovative "coin" out there! Don't get annoyed by this Bitcoin bubble 2.0 thing -- it will (i) burst, and (ii) there will be need for another more sophisticated technology (like Bitshares) rather soon! Everybody is working on such machinery, while Bitshares already has it.

ps: I would love to store my personal trades in some privat blockchain database on my webserver. Can you offer such a database on Bitshares technology?

pps: I keep buying Bitshares :-)
