General Discussion / Bitshares Cold Storage
« on: March 22, 2015, 09:58:12 pm »
Working on an article covering Bitshares for an investment newsletter. Would like to advise investors on purchasing their shares and putting them immediately into cold storage. Are there any resources out there that go over this process?

Alternatively, I'm curious what the security level is like for an online wallet on the Bitshares platform. Is it dangerous to keep your Bitshares on a live wallet similar to how having Bitcoin in a hot wallet opens you up to being hacked? Or is there a different level of security with Bitshares that sets it apart from Bitcoin?

General Discussion / Trouble Registering Account
« on: March 07, 2015, 11:56:11 pm »
I've been trying to register a delegate account on the blockchain. It keeps giving me an error message, saying that the account hasn't been approved by the adult account. I've tried the console method, and that doesn't seem to be working either. Anyone have any suggestions?

Stakeholder Proposals / BTC Media Delegate Proposal
« on: March 07, 2015, 11:07:39 pm »
Bitshares Delegate Proposal

My name is Rich, and I am a recent law school graduate with aspirations to become a successful bitcoin entrepreneur. Currently, I’m working with Tuur Demeester as a Junior Researcher for an upcoming Bitcoin investment newsletter. I have been following the Bitshares project since the beginning (you can check my forum profile creation date for verification), and am really excited for BTS’ future! Up to this point, I have longed to be an active participant in its growth, but have lacked the requisite skills to do so (I have no programming experience). Now that the DAC has launched, and the gears are really turning, I see a place for me to utilize my skills for the betterment of the Bitshares community.

Proposal Summary: I propose to create a delegate that will use the payouts specifically for the purpose of purchasing advertising space with BTC Media’s yBitcoin, a physical, high-quality magazine distributed at large conferences throughout the U.S., and www.bitcoinmagazine.com, a website dedicated to bringing a high-quality, digital content to their large reader base.

Full-length Proposal: I would like to become a delegate of the Bitshares platform. My goal would be to receive 100% of the delegate payouts, and put them toward purchasing valuable advertising space with BTC Media’s two best outlets - yBitcoin and bitcoinmagazine.com. I understand that there are other marketing and advertising delegates out there with similar jobs. However, it is important to note that these ads are high-quality, and with quality comes cost. It is my opinion that this project can only be tackled with at least one delegate assigned specifically to this task.

Because I have a business relationship with David Bailey, owner of BTC Media, he has offered to sell me advertising space at a discount rate. At this point, he has not given me specifics, so I will make calculations here while using their normal rates.

It is my understanding that the average delegate payout rate right now is ~$1,200/month based on the current market rate of BTS if the delegate accepts 100% of the payouts. I will assume this is accurate for calculation purposes in this proposal.

yBitcoin Advertising Choices

4 Color Ads      1x      2x

Full page                   $3,500         $3,325
½ Page                     $2,000         $1,900
¼ Page                     $1,200         $1,140

Front Cover              $10,000

Back Cover                $6,000        $5,700

Sponsored Content

Full Page                   $4,000        $3,800
½ Page                     $2,200         $2,090

As you can see, if I saved the payouts for a month, and the average price of BTS remained about the same, I could afford to purchase the ¼ page advertisement. However, since yBitcoin is only published every quarter, it may be more beneficial to save a little longer, and purchase a larger ad before publication. You can also see that if the price rises during the time I’m saving, Bitshares could really benefit in that I could purchase an even bigger, better ad!

Traffic is growing as they are investing and expanding with new high-quality content. Their advertising options are available on a “cost per 1,000 impressions” basis. Ads rotate in each location until the number of impressions purchased have been fulfilled. They have experienced click through rates averaging 0.1% - 1%.

BitcoinMagazine.com Advertising Choices

Header      728 x 90      $15.00 CPM
Top Story  620 x79       $15.00 CPM
Sidebar 1  300 x 250     $15.00 CPM
Sidebar 2  300 x 250     $15.00 CPM

Plan Moving Forward
I think the best option is to focus on saving for the yBitcoin release next quarter (it’s too late to purchase advertising for the upcoming issue). I’m not decided on percentages just yet, I would like to wait for David’s discount offer, but I think it would be best to focus the majority of the money each month to saving for an ad in yBitcoin, then using the rest to purchase an ad on BitcoinMagazine.com each month.

I’m also open to teaming up with any other delegates that are interested in contributing to this venture. Overall, I do think this is a major space on which BTS can capitalize greatly. I intend to set up the delegate immediately, so that I may start receiving votes from shareholders. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Stakeholder Proposals / Delegate Payouts
« on: March 06, 2015, 04:25:34 am »
Running some numbers to see what would be affordable ad space for yBitcoin and bitcoinmagazine.com if I am able to secure a delegate in the near future. I need to know what are the average delegate payouts - if someone could even give me that number in BTS/month, that would be even better. Thanks to anyone who can help me out here! :)

Working on a research project on sidechains - what are people's thoughts on the future of bitshares in the event that sidechains are implemented into the bitcoin protocol? Will bitshares adapt as a sidechain? Will it exist independently? What would it look like if bitshares did decide to adapt into a sidechain?

I met with David Bailey, owner of BTCMedia, Bitcoin Magazine, and yBitcoin over the weekend for an unrelated matter, but the topic of Bitshares came up. He mentioned that now that BTS is fully decentralized, there is no one to speak with regarding advertising for Bitshares. So I would like to set up a delegate that takes 100% (or whatever would be necessary) and invest that money in advertising with BTCMedia's respective outlets. Does anyone have any thoughts?

General Discussion / BitShares vs. Ultra-Coin
« on: January 27, 2015, 12:20:59 am »
I'm curious if anyone has done some due diligence on Reggie Middleton's Ultra-Coin platform, which seems relatively similar to what BitShares is trying to accomplish, except with Bitcoin. That being said, Ultra-Coin has other features that aren't at all like BitShares, but they do share some related characteristics. Anybody have any thoughts?

General Discussion / Short Selling and BTS Love
« on: January 22, 2015, 04:00:02 am »
So I've been following BTS since its inception, and have been lingering around the forums ever since. This is (I think) my first post. First of all, kudos to all of you who have worked on an awesome product in Bitshares. Can't wait until the 1.0 release! Second of all - can anyone walk me through the mechanics of a short sell in BitUSD? I'm just getting into trading and short selling, and it was already hard enough wrapping my head around it in the real world with stocks. I'm still struggling to understand it in the Bitshares world. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Keyhotee / Keyhotee Notoriety and Visibility
« on: January 05, 2014, 06:14:59 pm »
In the latest episode of Let's Talk Bitcoin (E. 72 "Powerful Perspectives"), Fred Wilson, a respected investor and managing partner of Union Squares Ventures, spoke on how decentralized networks are inevitably going to replace the hierarchical structure in place presently.

He said that the first major step toward this power shift (or essentially, power alleviation) would be the creation of decentralized networks for verifying identity, taking away free access to valuable information from entities like Google, Facebook, and even the NSA.

He mentioned that he did not know of an existing "bitcoin-like entity" that would facilitate this type of network.  He is a major investor - if he knew of Keyhotee's existence, perhaps he would be interested in investing in this revolutionary technology!

BitShares PTS / Public Exposure
« on: December 03, 2013, 11:40:23 pm »
In order for Protoshares, DACs, Bitshares, etc. to take off, there needs to be more public exposure.  I think a fine place to start would be to get Daniel or Stan on The Keiser Report.  Max is a huge advocate of bitcoin, and has guest after guest on calling for the decentralization of everything.

Invictus' ideas are revolutionary only if you guys are the first ones there.  I rarely use it, but I have a Twitter account, and Max always looks for tweets for new ideas re: guests, questions, etc.  I tweeted that he should interview you guys, and anyone else that has an account really should too.

Is this a good idea?
