General Discussion / The Important Update Thread! is in ruins
« on: July 11, 2014, 11:14:33 pm »
and it could use an update. the last edit was on may 7th and there's been plenty of update worthy news since then:

- beta wallet clients released for mac and windows
- DPOS test networks are up and running
- new DACs announced - Music, followmyvote
- lottoshares being released in less than a week
- BTSX upcoming release and information on DACsunlimited
- btc38 and bter trading BTSX promissory notes

information on BitShares is scattered all over the forums. a well curated update thread should give investors and newcomers a quick and informative look at what's happening right now. it also aims to reduce confusion while increasing transparency

REMINDER: This software is still in BETA and is for testing purposes only

Windows: http://bitshares.org/BitSharesXT-0.1.0.exe

One of the first and most important customer-facing aspects of the BitShares ecosystem is starting to look pretty good - the wallet!

...but it is not quite finished yet. Here's where we can help: as you might know an intuitive user experience is (just one of many) critical aspects of attracting users to a brand, so lets talk ui/ux design, bug fixes, planned updates, security, etc

QUICK NOTE: If you want to report an issue, please be sure to include a [Win] or [Mac] tag, thanks!

The Good
- It looks great, very aesthetically pleasing and far superior to any dime-a-dozen QT wallet
- Well supported, frequent client improvements and bug fixes
- Quick and responsive to inputs

Suggestions
- Add a back button that takes the user to the previous page (similar to a web browser back button)
- Add informational ecosystem links to the Help section - there's a lot to learn about BitShares and it can get overwhelming, directing people to the new wiki may help guide some lost souls
- Add 'first time user' screens which guide and prompt new users to register a BitShares account/address immediately
- Hide the Console from 'regular' users
- An option to scroll through the earlier console commands used with up/down arrow keys
- Password recovery?
- Improve delegate payout notification/visibility
- [Block Explorer] Add ability to "watch" addresses balances.
- [Command Line] If a command line produces an error, instead of showing "Command aborted." Just run help <command> and show how it should be used.
- A button that copies the Account Key to clipboard
- Ability to control private keys through GUI rather than navigating through hidden folders on the OS
- Temp/trial accounts for new users to test waters (perhaps give a very small bit of XTS upon wallet registration for the first couple of weeks to promote conversion)
- New KPIs on the Overview tab that are more user-friendly
- Option to sort delegates by reliability
- Better description for password creation requirements
- Make it so that users have to save changes to their "Approve" selections. The idea is that it will protect from accidental changes which would be both undesirable and a PITA. The downside is that some may find that having to remember to save changes is a PITA
- Add the ability to "Deselect All" for the "Approve" selections. The idea is that the list is very long and a user may want to start from scratch with their selections.

Bugs/Issues
-  Need more descriptive and user friendly error messages
- [Win] Typo: When unlocking a wallet, the client says "Scanning transaltions", it should say "Scanning transactions"
- [Win] Toggle vote up does not appear to function properly
- [Win] The tooltip that is supposed to display when you hover over "Blocks are synced" in the bottom right corner is a bit finicky and requires too much finesse to trigger
- [Win] Right clicking on images (eg the BitShares logo) brings up an incorrect context menu related to the images temselves
- [Win] Names do not appear in the Unregistered tab of the Directory
- [Win] Selected favorites do not appear in the Unregistered tab of the Directory
- [Win] Unable to load multibit wallet
- [Win] Application does not close correctly and needs to be shut down through task manager
- [Win] The "Daily Income", "Daily Expenses", and "Daily Burn" panels have values of "inf" and "Nan" on first load, until you get synced maybe
- [Mac] Client force closes at random
- [Mac] Errors when closing application
- Gravatar?
- Wallet Account Transaction Ledger displays ERROR for market transactions, that is a display bug.
- The volume metric on the price history is hardcoded to 1... coming soon  :)
- Wallet Account Transaction Ledger does not currently display an entry showing your collateral returned to your account after covering a short position.  (A display issue)

Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.

Is this the beginning of the end for Marvel Studios being cool? Edgar Wright, who has been on Ant-Man since Phase One, left the project today. He isn't the first director that's parted ways with the studio close to production, but none have been as involved for as long.

This feels like a real bullshit move on Marvel's part, and it's only going to reinforce the idea that the studio shies away from using filmmakers who have personal visions. What's more, it's just crummy that this process could last this long and only now does the studio have a 'difference in their vision of the film'?

The cast will stay the same, and I imagine some version of the script by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish will remain, if the studio is looking to hit next summer's release date. The big change is that the interesting, visionary filmmaker behind it all will no longer be involved. Good luck to whoever they hire to Brett Ratner this one.

such a bummer, not really looking forward to this one anymore  :'( :'( :'(

real talk, if there's one thing this message board is missing, its some good old-fashioned internet shitposting.

but really, i think it would be great to get some more casual conversation going on the boards. the technical talk is stimulating but ive also found it can be divisive and seriously draining at times. i think moving the forum up to a place where it will get some eyeballs represents a realopportunity for users to connect with eachother and become invested in the project on a more personal level. tempers flare, investors scare, but there is always solidarity in shitposting.

also, im sure there are a few casual users out there that can't hang with some(any) of the fancy tech talk. us regular folk deserve a place (near the top, of course) to chillpost kittens in peace

EDIT:as a veteran newb, i also request that the newbie board be moved to discussion as well. putting the newb section in an area where it will actually be seen by first time visitors would probably lead to an increase in new user signups and engagement. I recommend moving tech support to make room for newbies. Anyone invested enough to need tech support is gonna scroll down to fix their issues. A first timer is not invested whatsoever, and is far more likely to lose interest if he/she has to exert any effort in order to find meaningful interaction

SEE POSTS 2+ IF YOU WANNA SKIP STRAIGHT TO THE FIRST DEGREE BURNS

Here's a cliffnotes version for those who may have missed the original PTS to PTS2 announcement threads:

A couple of days ago it was announced that the bitshares dev team is planning on upgrading bitshares PTS after bitshares XT is completed and released

This news was stealth announced in a cryptic topic titled "Rest in Peace, DA" found on the marketing board.  The topic, created by user Stan, intended to deliver great news to #bitsharesbelievers: Invictus is planning to upgrade the PTS network (via a soft-fork) by utilizing the DPOS tech which they have been developing over the past few months. In addition, it was announced that when this upgrade takes place, there will be around ~$1,000,000 of "windfall" money, and that this extra capital would go in a marketing slush fund controlled by Invictus

As I lurked through thread, some users appeared to like the idea. The current PTS PoW algo has some sustainability issues that are alleviated by upgrading to DPOS. Others observed that by allocating the remaining PTS to themselves, Invictus would breach the established social contract.
Stan continued to post in the thread, elaborating upon and holding his original position: investors should like this announcement because Invictus is in the best position to spend the funds wisely and thus maximize shareholder return.

After a total of 3 topics and 300 posts over the last couple of days, the first two topics discussing this issue have been closed, and all posts Stan made referencing the original million dollar marketing fund have been edited out of existence and can no longer be found. The most recent topic demotes the previous PTS DPOS upgrade announcement to a "proposal", and drops any talk of what to do with the left over PTS, instead deferring the decision to (community?) consensus at a later date.

I do not bring up the fact that Stan edited away the original announcement to cast suspicion on him. I do it because the original post Stan made regarding this (now defunct) marketing fund was more than a little half baked, and responsible for a lot of the FUD surrounding the PTS PoW to DPOS transition. Also it serves as a perfect example of how to confuse and alienate your user base.

General Discussion / Yet another twitter page!
« on: January 05, 2014, 01:04:45 am »
It seems that most of the social media pages have fallen by the wayside, so I decided to create my own! You can find the page here: https://twitter.com/InvictusCrypto

If all goes well I may consider adopting and maintaining other III brands like Protoshares and Bitshares, and perhaps managing a facebook page as well. But for the time being, my priorities involve growing the follower base and tweeting daily.

I am hoping to use this thread for suggestions and feedback. Any comments would be greatly appreciated, hope you guys like it!

Meta / Cannot connect to the Bitshares Forum via Tapatalk
« on: December 03, 2013, 10:42:44 pm »
Whenever I attempt to connect to the Bitshares Forum using Tapatalk, the message board fails to load 100% of the time. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app several times. I have tried several WiFi connections, LTE, and 3G. I have restarted the device many times and still am having no luck! I am using a Verizon iPhone 5s with iOS 7.0.4. The strangest part is that every other Forum seems to function perfectly fine. Any suggestions? This is driving me wild.

edit: I should note that I receive no error message, just a loading symbol that will stay on the screen in lieu of the forums indefinitely.
