Bitshares Community,

Can you believe it's already been 6 months? Actually, we are just a few weeks shy of 6 months. Over this time, we made sweeping changed to how the UI functions and to its overall look. The goal from the start was to fix bugs and make marginal improvements to the feature set. I am hopeful that the previous budget which will cover the next two Sprints still will include TradingView integration to the exchange and provide for full trading and activity history via ElasticSearch. Assuming we complete those items, the next six months will bring:

  • An expanded budget to fund real UX talent
  • Responsive design on every page
  • Improved Multisig UX
We are going to maintain the existing bounty program but be aware of the additional hours required for a more professional UX team.

As with the previous proposal, Bitshares Foundation is handling the receipt and distribution of funds. The WP will be paid in USD and any overage BTS will be refunded to the pool at the end of the term. Here is a link to the formal WP:

http://www.bitshares.foundation/worker/budget/2018-02-bitshares-ui

If you are new to BTS and are unaware of the work carried out by this team, please take a look at the closed milestones 170830 - 180115.

I've been reading a lot of the posts on this discussion board. At times I feel sorry for Larimer having to wade through the BS. This board has everything....shit tons of people with very little skin in the game wining, a few trollers/spammers, and a significant number of brilliant minds contributing (xeroc, svk and many others).

I hold Bitshares for one reason. I can use Bitshares as collateral to back up the shortsale of assets I believe are overvalued and to purchase assets I believe are undervalued. This is why Bitshares will survive. I have a reason (other than speculation) to hold them. I think Maidsafecoin and Ethereum have similar value propositions. It's not the monetary value of Bitshares that matters, it's the UTILITY of it. It's useful to me and it will be useful to others over time once they understand how it works.

And guess what, if I find it useful, I'll accumulate it. By accumulating it, I do two things (a) I decrease supply and (b) I increase demand. Basic economics people. If you don't understand it, read. And if you still don't understand it, read more slowly until it clicks.

Bitshares niche is a financial distributed trading platform. The world needs this and Bitshares will benefit as a result.

My worker proposal expired and I was privileged to work with the dev team on a few UX/UI items for the GUI. I also loved seeing @xeroc prediction market for the Superbowl (even though I took the wrong side on that bet!).

BM's latest whitepaper on a no fees approach should satisfy the latest legitimate fee based issues (particularly legitimate wrt micropayments).

I'd say let's all start acting like adults but there probably aren't many adults on this board. I feel momentum and good things right now. And remember:

The simple pitch for Bitshares is bitUSD and bitCNY. You can hold a crypto-derivative for a market pegged US Dollar and YEN. All the transmission benefits of a crypto with the price stability of FIAT. Plenty of people don't know this but besides using BTS as collateral, it's the single best motivator for BTC holders.

General Discussion / Any interest in a more modern Discussion board?
« on: December 06, 2015, 03:57:17 pm »
I wouldn't expect this to happen overnight, but why not consider it?

http://flarum.org/features/

Reasons:

- Attaching images is archaic with phpBB
- formatting text is archaic
- URLs are cryptic
- Page reloads are required for every post (as opposed to live streaming and sockets)
- General UX is terrible with phpBB (it was awesome in 2005, but it's not so awesome now)

General Discussion / BTC -> TRADE.BTC

If anyone wants a clean trade from BTC to TRADE.BTC, I have a trade up at one to one on that market.  There hasn't been much activity over the past few days so figured I'd announce it here.

General Discussion / UI Progress
« on: November 12, 2015, 11:52:25 pm »
All,

About a week and a half ago, the graphene-ui devs let me run an experiment with prioritizing issues and setting up milestones with weekly releases. I am happy to report that the team did an amazing job of knocking out 32 bugs and enhancements. One of my biggest concerns with Bitshares was the persistence of the same issues week after week. It is my goal to listen to requests on this board (and more importantly on the graphene-ui github site) https://github.com/cryptonomex/graphene-ui/issues.

I will make every effort to respond, clarify and prioritize features and bugs in an effort to make the bitshares2 wallet the best it can be. Releases will occur every Wednesday, with urgent fixes being released in between as required.

Here is the list of bugs that were fixed last week:
https://github.com/cryptonomex/graphene-ui/issues?q=milestone%3A2.0.151111+is%3Aclosed

Here is what the team is working on for the 11/18 release:
https://github.com/cryptonomex/graphene-ui/milestones/2.0.151118

I encourage you to discuss software issue on github. Get an account, it's free. Start an issue. Go slowly when explaining your issue. Do not bundle problems. If you have 3 distinct bugs or feature requests, create separate issues. Only submit the most pressing issues and really think through the urgency before posting. We are trying to triage those issues that hurt BTS perception. Once those are resolved we can move on to the all the other amazing features that are possible.

I will be submitting a Worker Proposal to serve as the Project Manager for the UI Team to help streamline this process and communicate needs / wants / priorities. I hope that you find value in what I am doing an you vote to accept my worker proposal. The text of the proposal is here and I will likely submit it to the blockchain for voting tomorrow.

General Discussion / Issues Voting on Github for graphene-ui
« on: November 06, 2015, 12:50:42 am »
All,

I proposed that we try using Github's built in voting to help convey to the graphene-ui developers where the community feels the most work is needed. You need to register for a github account to vote.

Issues are tracked here: https://github.com/cryptonomex/graphene-ui/issues

As you read through the issues, vote by clicking the "plus 1" button in the upper right hand corner of the original post to reinforce your support of that issue. This will really help consolidate sentiment. You can also report issues there, but do a quick search first to ensure you aren't duplicating one already on the books.

Technical Support / An obscure wallet import problem
« on: November 04, 2015, 04:21:14 am »
So, I had a Bitshares wallet on my computer and I also had a web wallet at wallet.bitshares.org. I was able to bring in all my accounts associated with the local Bitshares wallet, and I have my backup from wallet.bitshares.org.

When I attempt to import the wallet backup from wallet.bitshares.org into bitshares.openledger.info, I enter all the necessary passwords, it presents me with a message that there are no balances to claim and when I click import, a spinner remains indefinitely. I already claimed the balances, really at this point I just want to get into that wallet. I guess I assumed that the 0.9.3c keys would do the trick.

Vote for delegate billbutler if you like it. I'm hoping to release a small series of how to videos to help people get (re)aquainted with the Bitshares 2.0 ecosystem.

General Discussion / Buyer and seller not matching up
« on: November 03, 2015, 04:30:47 am »
In the BTS:USD market, there is a sell order for 286.643 and multiple buy orders ranging from 270 to 280, however the sell order is not getting filled. I've got to say I'd cringe if I had to explain that to someone right now. From my standpoint, the guy offering to sell for 270 and the the guy offering to buy for 286 should do that deal.

Is this a bug? If not, what's the rational for not brokering the deal?

General Discussion / Bitshares 2.0 Witness ready
« on: October 30, 2015, 05:28:53 pm »
All,

So, I set up a witness and have had it running for a couple of days. I appear to have votes, but still am not showing up as a witness.

  "witness_account": "1.2.21594",

  "total_votes": "20803232860",
  "url": "url-tp-proposal",
  "total_missed": 0,
  "last_confirmed_block_num": 0
}

The only thing that's odd to me is that I appear to have two sets of keys in my
Code: [Select]
dump_private_keys
Code: [Select]
[[
    "BTS69UGUBGkvXb37Ea1UtnoSUpukTr8FDc7G5jFjzS8soGNNDjkjo",

  ],[
    "BTS62cZit4AJKV4Z7gGb9TVvPXfbQM7HBAL7XBWCptrdv8hMnSCVT",
    "REDACTED"
  ]
]

When I started the witness, I only declared the signing key that was associated with my get_witness billbutler object. Does anyone see any obvious reason why I am not an active witness now?

All,

I'm ready to be a witness. I'm running xeroc's docker container for the full node without RPC. Is there a way to do this without going though the 0.9.3 key process? I have a 2.0 wallet with a number of accounts that I could use as a witness. Thanks for any help you can provide.
