Running BitShares2-light client v2.0.151101 on Mac OS 10.11.1.

1. Launch BitShares.
2. Select an account.
3. Click on the Membership tab in the left nav menu.
4. Several Javascript errors occur (only detectable by Toggling DevTools):
  - Uncaught Error: argument is not an object id: undefined (app.js:50)
  - Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property '_currentElement' of null (repeated many times) (vendors.js:17)

Each time I update Bitshares.app, Mac OS X's Gatekeeper feature prevents me from launching the app.  It can be bypassed each time, but it's a pain and you have to know where to look.

From http://support.apple.com/HT202491:

Quote
  • Gatekeeper options set to "Mac App Store and identified developers"
    • "App name" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer
      • Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and Identified developers.
      • Safari downloaded this file Date from URL.

Relevant snippet from that URL for developers:

Quote
For apps that are downloaded from places other than the Mac App Store, developers can get a unique Developer ID from Apple and use it to digitally sign their apps. The Developer ID allows Gatekeeper to block apps created by malware developers and verify that apps haven't been tampered with since they were signed. If an app was developed by an unknown developer—one with no Developer ID—or tampered with, Gatekeeper can block the app from being installed.

Note: If you have an app that has not been signed with a Developer ID  to support Gatekeeper, contact the developer of the app to determine if they offer an update which supports Gatekeeper.

General Discussion / Can BTS be used for website authentication?
« on: December 21, 2014, 07:04:11 pm »
While looking for updates on Keyhotee (and ultimately, a compelling alternative to gpgAuth), I came across this post:

Secure mail and IDs will be built into Bitshares.

Is BTS at a point where somebody could build a website and/or browser plugin that uses BTS for website authentication?

Meta / Feature Request: View Topics That Are New Since My Last Visit
« on: November 10, 2014, 01:14:13 am »
The XCurrency forum has a neat feature:

From http://xctalk.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=viewNewContent&search_app=forums&change=1

There's a few forums I check several times per day, and this feature saves me a bit of hassle.  (I'm assuming) it shows me all threads that have new posts since the last time I visited the site.  Also helpful: if I reload or page through the results, it maintains my "last visit" time, so I don't have to worry about missing any topics if I go to another page on the forum.

I can achieve almost the same thing on the BTSTalk forums by visiting the Recent Unread Topics page, but there are two important differences:

  • If I load some topics in new tabs as I'm going down the list and then page through the topics list (e.g., click on the link to go to page 2 on the unread topics page), I think I sometimes miss a few topics.  E.g., topics that would have been at the top of page 2 "move" to the bottom of page 1, but since this doesn't happen until I go to page 2, I just end up not seeing those topics.
  • When I'm done, I have to remember to click the "Mark All Messages As Read" button, which I suspect has the side effect of marking as read any posts that were created after I loaded the "Recent Unread Topics" page but before I clicked the MAMAR button (i.e., that I didn't actually get a chance to see before marking them as read).

Once the BitShares X client has finished launching – but before I've entered my wallet password – does the client immediately begin syncing with the blockchain, or do I need to unlock my wallet before it can do that?

If so, is there a way to see sync progress without unlocking my wallet?

General Discussion / Where do you go for crypto 2.0 news?
« on: October 18, 2014, 06:06:48 pm »
The other day, I noticed that most of the sites I consult for news on the crypto industry are rather... Bitcoin-centric.

I'd love to branch out and find more exciting technologies and DACs to follow and get involved with, but I'm not sure where to look.

What websites/URLs do you follow to stay informed on new developments in the crypto world?

When upgrading to a new version of the BitSharesX software, what should I do with my existing wallet backup files?

Should I be creating a new wallet backup every time I upgrade to a new version (and if so, do I need to keep backup files created by previous versions of the software)?

When MemoryCoin was launched, all PTS holders could claim a certain amount of pre-mined MMC by importing their PTS private keys into the MMC wallet software.

Assuming I got that part right, this makes me a little curious how I should plan for new DAC launches if I have lots of PTS addresses.

If I've accumulated a certain amount of PTS across multiple addresses, would I need to export each private key into the wallet for each new PTS-honoring DAC that I wanted to claim my stake in?  Or is there a fast way to bulk-import multiple addresses?  Or am I misunderstanding how the process works?

BitShares PTS / Sending PTS from a specific address
« on: February 01, 2014, 04:02:54 am »
I'd like to send PTS from a specific address using the Mac Qt client (version 0.2.0, from https://bitsharestalk.org/PubDownloads/ ).

Is this possible?  How do I do it?

I've noticed in a few places on the forums, as well as on the I3 website, there are references to "Bitshares", and separate references to "Bitshares X".  It seems like these are two different things.

What is the difference between Bitshares and Bitshares X?

General Discussion / What does the process to start a new DAC look like?
« on: January 22, 2014, 03:18:43 am »
Suppose I have an idea that I think would make a good DAC.  What is the process to bootstrap and run a new DAC?  Is any specialized knowledge (e.g., computer science) necessary, or is it possible for a non-technical person to get a new DAC off the ground?
