BitShares PTS / Re: "Protoshares is a CPU-mined coin"
« on: January 26, 2014, 12:44:25 am »
While I appreciate the conversation, the OP has already made up their mind and is not actually searching for information, but only trying to flame the coin.  If you don't like it don't invest in it.

On that note, I am actually selling out of it.

General Discussion / Re: Transition from PTS to Bitshares

But you will only own the PTS mined so far, right?

So it's taking a snapshot at release - or will future pts get credited too?

Just a snapshot of PTS ownership distribution at first release, when the genesis block of a new DAC is laid down.  After that, your PTS are still good for ownership in other developing DACs that honor the ProtoShares Social Contract.
Before obtaining a snapshot should be given me some time so that we can withdraw the coins from the trading platform into our wallets, in other words, there should be a prior notice.

Yes, that is a very good point.  We will give everyone a 2 week notice and the exact block number from which the snapshot will be taken.

I drafted the following reply here, before I realized it was a larger problem that needs solving, which I address in the following post:

Use Cryptsy or bter
Cryptsy is slow and bter charges 0.1PTS per PTS withdrawal.
Rather use an exchange than trading with an individual.
Trade in small amounts so that if anything goes wrong you wont loose allot.

Download the PTS client, encrypt it, make wallet.dat backups etc. And send your PTS to the wallet. If your PTS are not in your wallet when a new DAC is launched you will not get shares in the new DAC.

This is still my mental stumbling block. How do PTS holders know when a new DAC is launched and are the new shares automatically issued without notification to the PTS wallet
So the blockchain technology allows for the tracking of who has what (the what is protected by your public key and is identified using your public key). For bitcoin the 'what' is money. Bitcoin uses the blockchain technology to record which public keys have what values of money.

The blockchain can be used to tack other kinds of information, such as who has what number of shares in an implementation(s) of an idea. Protoshares does this.
Invictus will reward all public keys that contain PTS with the equivalent of Bitshares. Invictus doesnt know who all the people are it just recognizes the public keys and rewards them.

You dont need to be online or aware that this is happening for it to happen.

For BitShares you would then download the BitShares client and point it at your PTS wallet.dat file and your BitShares will be loaded onto your account.

Ok so let me understand this. When Bitshares is released I download the client and enter my PTS privkey into that client in order to get the bitshares. So this a manual entry by me and I therefore need to be aware when and where Bitshares is released. Is this the case with every future release of any DAC that PTS/Bitshare holders are entitled to. If this is the case I find this tedious somehow from an investors perspective if I have to check daily when and were a dacs has been realized in order for me to receive my % of the new dacs should this not somehow occured automatically

For now, just make sure that when a new DAC is released based on PTS that you have all your PTS in your wallet and not on an exchange.  There has only been one DAC released off of it so far(MMC2.0), and all I did was downloaded the wallet for MMC2.0, plopped my wallet.dat from PTS in and transferred the funds.  You don't need to check daily.....MMC2.0 was announced a couple of weeks before the release.

What it comes down to is you don't need to do anything if you keep all your PTS in your wallet.  Any DACs released will automatically pay you, to claim your funds you need to download the wallet for the new DAC and import your wallet.dat

MemoryCoin / Re: Distribution At Block 32000 - MemoryCoin 2.0

This is weird:

"Following the logic that 10 PTS were offered for 1 MMC by FreeTrade,
I would like to sell 2 MMC at .1 BTC each. " - quote from BTC talk buy and sell topic.

Somehow people on BTC forums feel 1 MMC should be worth somewhere in between .02 and .1 BTC.
This could mean that things that are based on Protoshares are in high demand, in which case you'd expect a prise rise for PTS. It is down 20% however.

The other option is that people don't seem to get it. Hopefully I'll finally find a block some time soon so I can sell it for 1BTC just to prove my point.

Yeah  saw that too.  Interesting idea to essentially just mimic/scale PTS's price to new coin.  but it's in very early stages so I doubt it'll stay that consistant.

Kewlio I even got a block.  one of the midget blocks though but 70mmc is better than 0mmc I guess

I got a midget block too, worth about 2.5....so be glad about the 70!

Great work FreeTrade and thank you for helping test the concept and I am sure we will learn a lot from your experience.

Not having looked at FreeTrade's code I can only describe how I would implement it... I would simply copy my wallet.dat file from ~/.protoshares to ~/.memorycoin2 as I doubt FreeTrade has changed the wallet format.

Unfortunately this won't work - the private key internally uses a different special byte, and this seems to be stored in the wallet.

Actually I've just tested this again and my apologies, this will work.

The wallet contains a lot of extra stuff like transactions and addresses that are not valid on the network, so continuing to use the wallet may cause stability problems if it tries to propogate the invalid info, but a quick way to import your coins, this will work very nicely.

If using this method, I suggest sending the coins to a fresh MC wallet as the first transaction.

This worked for me.  I also created a new PTS wallet.dat and emptied out the original PTS wallet balance into it, just for good measure.

Yep, difficulty increased.  I added more cores and am now receiving a very dismal output.  Hopefully the price on exchanges of XPM will realize this difficulty increase and prices will be more competitive!

General Discussion / Re: Is it right to trade PTS against BTC?
« on: December 11, 2013, 04:00:58 am »
Problem is this worries even investors like me.
I have aroud 3000 coins and am begining to panic.
can we please have a few rounds of Press releases made so that the general public is made aware and prices increase?
I understand it takes time to do something major, but hey! we can start with the promotions already

The troll possibility is strong in this one.

But what I noticed in the most recent BTC crash PTS held to about the same amount of BTC it had been trading to, all throughout the crash, with only a few jitters.  Every day the trading gap is closing and it is getting more steady.
