General Discussion / Whats new with Bitshares?
« on: March 15, 2019, 06:18:40 am »
Hey everyone!

I haven't checked in with this forum - or crypto in general - for close to a couple years (for numerous reasons). Any one that can fill me in? Is the community still as active as it was back in the day and is the general consensus positive/negative about the state of bitshares currently? What's been happening on the development end? What's upcoming?

Just any information you think is relevant would be appreciated! Just downloaded the bitshares client again and looking forward to getting involved once more!

Updated my bitshares version and my claimed balance has appeared. Tried to delete this thread as it's no longer needed but it won't let me so if any moderators want to delete it now that's fine :)

Technical Support / Claiming final vesting balance (Fixed)
« on: May 04, 2017, 10:23:33 pm »
I haven't been on my bitshares wallet since march 2016. I had claimed most of my vesting balance by that point but just went to claim the rest today. I claimed the remaining balance about half an hour ago but it's not appearing in my main account? I'm using the version Bitshares 2.0.151111 so maybe because it's an old version it's not showing or updating?

Nice survey, hopefully you get enough information from this forum to help you with your research!

I'd certainly be interested in seeing the summary of your research  :)

I think we've got to get the word out in a concerted marketing effort, especially once echo comes online and focus on getting some userability feedback.

I cant believe we're now down near 30th on cmc and our mkt cap is almost under 10m.

What is echo? We've been under $10m in the past but back then we were sitting about 10-15 on CMC; there's more money in crypto now so we've been pushed down the pack. Maybe that makes it look like we're in a worse position than we really are.

This should be another example to people that centralized exchanges are vulnerable to these attacks. Bitshares' decentralized exchange is still as needed as it ever was.

General Discussion / Re: [Discuss]Why we reject all Bitshares workers?
« on: December 19, 2016, 04:26:29 am »
I take it there's a difference between worker and delegate and you're not proposing doing away with DPOS? (It's been a while since I looked at how DPOS works so forgive my ignorance).

Altering the incentive structure towards a bounty system could be a welcome change.  +5%

Technical Support / Re: Who is still working on Bitshares?

It's nice to know that people are still actively working on and care about bitshares. I always wish I could do more to help out but i'm useless and can't code lol. Been a rough couple years but here's hoping for a change of fortune in 2017!

General Discussion / Re: How to design efficient and resilient DAO
« on: August 21, 2016, 08:54:16 pm »
Maybe I've failed to understand the voting process of bitshares; but why is low voting turnout in DPOS a bad thing? For instance I don't vote, so don't my shares simply go from an active to passive state as you talk about in the article which doesn't affect active voters?

The main argument you made was that limiting the amount of decision makers produces a more efficient DAO, and that could certainly be the case. So along with annual delegate voting, would you want to decrease the number of delegates which a DPOS system uses from 51 down to 10 for example? My understanding is that the benefit of a smaller number of delegates would mean more money from block rewards to fund development for each delegate rather than having to share those rewards with a higher number of delegates and possibly less disagreement between delegates about how to best move the DAO forward. But I'm sure bitshares made the number 51 to prevent help prevent collusion as lower numbers could more easily allow 51% attacks. How do you defend against that if there's only annual voting and possibly with less delegates?

Step 1: Make a bitshares account
Step 2: Put your laptop in the fridge

My bts account is 'milkshake' if you feel this information was invaluable.
