I attempted to update on Ubuntu 14.10. I had probably a fairly old version before which used to work. I followed the instructions posted at: github.com/janx/bitshares/blob/master/BUILD_UBUNTU.md

When I try to run either the client or the qt wallet I am getting an assert exception:

Loading blockchain from: /home/"Redacted"/.BitShares/chain
Loading config from file: /home/"Redacted"/.BitShares/config.json
Initializing genesis state from built-in genesis file
Please be patient, this will take a few minutes...
Successfully re-indexed 0 blocks in 0 seconds.
Blockchain size changed from 0MiB to 0MiB.
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'fc::assert_exception'
Aborted (core dumped)

Any suggestions?

Looks like BrownBear was paid a 300 pts bounty for Armory support. If we are still paying bounties for code that doesn't work, then I can finally quit my day job.

Yes I had a stake. I have several times used the explorer to confirm. I watched my transactions go through, and they are to the Angel address. And yes prior to the 28th of February.

I did try to import by private keys as well. And after seriously exposing my keys and about an hour of my time... still nothing.

General Discussion / Re: [VIDEO] Explanation of BitShares Insurance DAC

Health insurance is pretty complicated. However, this model is not solely for health insurance. And as far as health insurance goes. There are different ways of implementing it. Namely, you don't have to have a DAC that pays out chronic or disease related risk. It could potentially just act in concert with more traditional health insurances. For instance... A DAC that only covers acute and physical trauma, like a bike accident. An accident with a saw, getting struck by lightning etc. Of course some peoples activities put them in higher risk, but it is easier to find out and prove if an accident happened that was covered. Extreme mountain biking or climbing Mt Everest probably wouldn't be covered. Or also potentially just an insurance that covers deductibles on traditional existing high deductible insurances. Lots of ways to play around with it and find the appropriate use case.

Speaking of... Wasn't there a bounty paid for a functional importing of wallets?

I used an armory wallet. Still haven't successfully imported.

I'm having the same issues. I have or had pts, and I have ags. My pts wallet I cannot get unencrypted, even though I remembered the password, and I have a file with the password written down. I guess that is gone. And I imported successfully my armory wallet, no dice, so I imported private keys after seriously exposing them, no luck. Spent all day yesterday on it and still have no balance.

In my experience... when you everyone wants to hurry and put money in so as to not miss the boat, you are entering a bubble stage. Not to mention they want to develop ether as an inflationary modeled currency. I may pick some ether up after it tanks, but not because I think they will produce a better product. Mainly cause they have quite a cult following, and potentially some high worth investors. Even if they do get out a working model within a year, I'm still quite sure there is room for different models. It's not as if there is only one exchange, or one trading platform in other applications. I doubt it will be the case for altcoin "bitcoin 2.0" projects as well. I couldn't be happier with my pts/ags equity. They have produced a product that is actually a lot better then I had imagined, and much more innovative. The delegated proof of stake, with the TITAN addressing, as well as how they have handled failed projects like Keyhote have shown excellent integrity and innovation. My bet long term is on Invicitus.
