this is what I'm getting if it helps. It's what happened when I tried to register last time too on the faucet.

lol it's dry again.

So i have funds in my account because I was able to import my dns wallet. I even made an account. Same name I use in BitSharesX. It just won't register. I'm on a mac if that makes a difference. I have the latest wallet downloaded...

KeyID / Issues Authenticating/Registering KeyId Account
« on: October 17, 2014, 03:26:51 am »
Ok guys, I'm really sorry to be a bother or sound like an idiot. But here's my issue.

I downloaded the KeyID wallet.
I switched to the legacy ui
Imported my PTS wallet
Got my shares
Went to freekeyid.com
I tried with both google & twitter
put in my long address
put in what I want my name to be

I keep getting this: invalid transaction expiration (31011)

Then, I tried registering within the legacy ui in the wallet, and got the same thing.

THEN, I couldn't figure out how to switch back to the new ui, to try and start all over again.

I closed the wallet/reopened, and now I have it back at square one. A key, and no way to register/authenticate it.

I'm on a mac. I'm a mess. If anyone could maybe lend a hand I'd really appreciate it. I searched the forum before posting this, hoping it was a common thing, but didn't see anything like it.

Hey toast, I've been reluctant to say this as I've been pretty busy between my salary job and and freelance, but if you still need someone to help out with the UI/Logo let me know. That's what I do for a living. www.dmipartners.com. I'm 2nd to last on the list of all of the department heads ("our people" under about us).

I'm re-doing my website, but I'd be more than happy to send you my portfolio & live samples of UI's I've designed (the website for my company being one of them).

Thanks overthetop. I was affraid to do that in case it didnt' work... Now that I think about it, I don't know why I was basically worrying about losing 10 cents haha.

It's a tricky paradigm to get your head around for sure. There is nothing for you to do right now. Your private keys are not your public addresses.

There are a couple ways to go about it. Here is the high level run down. I'll explain it in detail, hope it doesn't seem condescending :) .

It absolutely wasn't condesending. While there were steps in there I had already assumed, it was more than helpful! You never know who you're explaining something to, and they could be a complete moron so I always include the obvious details too.

I didn't know there was going to be a wallet for the new DAC's. That's why I wasn't sure what the process would be. And I'm glad you went into that much detail because I wouldn't have known to send the tokens to the new address. I would have just kept the copied wallet in there and called it a day.

And Toast, thanks for the update. Please don't think I'm being impatient or bitching. I just understood wrong and thought the snapshot and release were simultaneous actions. Thanks for all of the hard work and everything you've done. Also for giving me a little more credit than I deserved in my understanding haha.

So one last dumb question, I promise. Will VOTE and DNS wallet's come out at the same time, or are they scheduled separately?

Once they are released you import your private keeps from the BitShares-PTS wallet.dat. Since the new DAC's are a snapshot your existing private keys will match up with your funds in the new blockchain. Your PTS balance does not change as that's in a different blockchain.

Ok, cool. So I definitely understood the first part correctly. I think I was just misunderstanding when they were actually being released. I was under the impression the snapshot and release were at the same time. So there's nothing for me to do right now? Just waiting for when they're released (both DNS and VOTE)? And then i'll put in my private key, which I'm assuming is my "wallet address"?

Sorry man. I know I probably sound retarded.

Forgive me for being naive, but I'm new to pts, as I thought it would be a great thing to be involved in. Hopefully I'm not the only dummy with this question.

I'm not worried about when the snapshot was taken or what exact block (unless I need it) because I'm "hodling" for sure.

BUT... now that it has been taken, how do I actually go about getting my shares in the 2 DACs?

@onceuponatime -  I think he means like by them back if you want part in the next DAC that comes up. Not for this one. Atleast I hope that's what he means.

AFAIK The moment you sent a transaction from one address to another, the whole network "knows" that the funds now belong to the new address. The wallet.dat just proves that this specific address is yours to claim the funds, there is no need for the wallet to synchronize, as long as you control your wallet file(wallet.dat) the funds are yours.

Just remember to make a new backup of your wallet.dat from time to time if you have lots of incoming transactions in your wallet, every backup wallet can "restore" up to 100 incoming transactions, so if you made a backup today and by the end of month you had more than 100 incoming transactions, your backup wallet will be able to restore only the first 100. (thats what was happening with bitcoin, I'm not 100% sure if this also aplies to PTS)

Awesome thank you.

So i copied my wallet.dat file to my desktop deleted all of the other files associated to protoshare and re-installed another dowload of it. I then put the original wallet.dat file into the newly created folder. My original address is back in there!

Now i just have to get this damn thing to sync! None of the nodes in here have worked for me. I'm at a loss.

As long as you have the wallet.dat file, your funds are safe... just make some backups of your wallet in case something goes wrong...

You can try this node if you have't tried it yet, in my case it helped me synch my wallet yesterday.
addnode cryptoseed.cloudapp.net add

or

go to the properties of the shortcut that starts your  bitshares wallet and edit the "target" field

"(or something like that)bitshares.exe" -connect=cryptoseed.cloudapp.net:80

the problem is the funds were never in the wallet. so not sure if having the wallet.dat file will help

im on a mac, not sure how to edit the target field, but I did just put in that last address you mentioned. hopefully it works.
