Witness update. I apologize for the downtime after being voted back in today. As a result I have updated and tested my failover script and will look further into the root of the missed blocks on my primary node.

General Discussion / Maker Taker Incentive/Fee parameter for Assets
« on: September 13, 2018, 03:44:50 am »
I see that something like this was written up as Bsip-3 and deferred and I feel that this is worth bringing up again for discussion. In general I would like to see an option for asset owners to specify maker and taker fees separately. One thought is to allow these values to be positive or negative as long as the sum is greater than 0. Thus an exchange could set the maker fee to 0 or even offer a rebate by making it negative, essentially paying from the taker fee. Some possible benefits are listed below.
  • Reduces the minimum profitible spread, allowing makers to reduce spread further. With many assets at 0.2, the minimum profitable spread would be 0.4 percent. With a structure like this, it could be reduced to 0.
  • With more and more gatways/exchangesit could be beneficial to have an easy on chain market maker incentive option. Looking at cryptobridge, the market maker incentive program appears to be a success however it requires additional work from the exchange and ultimately will not be as transparent as an on chain feature. You might say a feature like this could be an additaional selling point for new exchanges deciding on using bitshares.
  • Could be an interesting experiment for committee assets to incentivize additional market making activity and potentially increase the supply of bitassets. On of the current challenges for the creation of bitassets is how to incentives shorters. With the advancement of the dexbot software, market making is a potential source of return for these users. If there was an additional maker rebate involved this could increase the return on such a setup.

I think the ecosystem is making big strides in increasing liquidity with the combination of exchange and community efforts, and I think something like this would only enhance those efforts. Any thoughts?

I believe that such a proposal will have a one-sided market, with an over abundance of sellers (shorters) and a lack of buyers.

I think in some cases it would be better to have an overabundance of sellers than buyers. Particularly for businesses which expect to buy and sell quickly(traders, remittances).

I have been thinking about this more and more lately. There are most likely scenarios where users/customers are more than happy to pay a few percent depreciation. Possibly one of the biggest strengths of bitshares is that we can have many versions to see what works best. One example of a customer which might not mind is a high frequency trader looking for lower fees. In that particular case a few percent a year may be much less than a fraction of a percent of thousands of trades. The other benefit of this idea is it incentivizes a different type of use. Instead of holding an asset users would only find this valuable if they are making lots of trades, and thus generating lots of fees...

General Discussion / Re: fiat to bitusd?
« on: August 25, 2017, 12:57:48 am »
I believe you can deposit usd to openledger from your bank if your go through the verification process. There should be a deposit tab at the top of the exchange/wallet window. Just make sure to select openledger for the transfer service and the "fiat" tab instesd of Gateway.

Cool Project, I think this is an excellent use case for bitshares tech. Also I personally prefer the buyback mechanism as it is more favorable for taxes here in the US.

Will ask the devs to begin procerdure

General Discussion / Re: Prism
« on: June 01, 2017, 03:16:19 am »
I just saw a video on ErikVorhees new program Prism.

Is it just me or would it be way better on the bitshares network?

I was thinking the same thing. A simple gui which buys desired distribution of smartassets in the background would have some of the same functionality.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Witness: delegate-1.lafona
« on: May 07, 2017, 03:18:22 pm »
Hi everyone,
Since the last update I have been working on some ways to visualize witness performance (https://lafona.net/witness-stats/) and making sure price feeds for my witness are ready to go should I get voted in. Also witness and backup have been moved to 32 gb servers. Right now the witness stats page shows missed blocks and a 24 hour feed history for USD. Since starting [member=43607]roelandp[/member] has come out with a very nice log for monitoring activity and I think I will try work more on the charts from now on to avoid any overlap. It is really exciting to see the rapid improvement in visible witness metrics.  That being said, I believe my witness infrastructure offers very competitive services and would be a good potential option for increasing the pool of active witnesses.

Existing Infrastructure:
Dedicated Primary Witness node
Dedicated Synced Backup Witness node
Price Feeds ready to publish
Dedicated Seed node - 51.15.61.160:1776 (1 of 14 listed in github )

If voted I would like to continue improving the page of witness performance charts as well as looking into some other interesting graph ideas. In addition I would be looking into larger dedicated machines for  the nodes t fo easily handle any further growth in dex activity. Thanks again for your time and please feel free to vote for delegate-1.lafona.

Steemdb is a good template. It fits a lot of information into a small space. I'll try to keep more data in table form going forward hopefully making it more convenient to use. Thanks
