General Discussion / Re: DarkSide or LightSide?
« on: January 26, 2016, 04:44:59 am »
I love how the focus is on the POSITIVE HERE!!!!

I have single-handedly brought in about 5 new people in the last month who bought bitshares, 2 of them are developers who are looking at it with interest.  (both were extremely critical of BTS before... but after my re-introduction, they are convincing themselves)

my point:

BITSHARES SELLS ITSELF!!!

I LOVE THIS PROJECT!!!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!  Keep INTRODUCING IT to the world... the rest is easy!

General Discussion / Re: Now is a good time to tell people about BTS.
« on: November 10, 2015, 04:11:03 pm »
But the smart investors are buying right now.  As for BTS, at it's peak it was under $100 million, but even Litecoin was higher than $100 million, even Dogecoin was $77 million, and they offered really no technological innovation, and very limited utility.

Don't confuse BTSX with BTS. BTSX was a VERY different model.  BTSX had a peak of over $100 million and nearly ฿ 0.0001.

While BTS referenced it's initial valuation from BTSX, it has been in decline since it was conceived & created.
BTS did rise more than 50% to high of $20 million with announcement of 2.0 in May though.

If you make a graph for BTSX up until 2014/10/04 and one for BTS after, you'll really see the difference esp. vs. BTC

For me, this is one of the most confusing and difficult to grasp part of Bitshares (BTSX/BTS)... what is it? who defines that "what"?  and how many tokens exist?

it seems that the number of tokens in the Bitshares system can be arbitrarily changed by ONE entity... and it does... or at least it did in the past

When I talk to people about Bitcoin, I always say: "There are 21million of them" that is something that will NEVER change!!!  I think I am right about that... of course, it could change ... but when that happens then it will most certainly not be called "bitcoin".. it will be called "new bitcoin" or "bitcoin 2.0" ...like when Coke changed to "new coke"

So, the point being... from my point of view... this very very important (non)variable of Bitshares has been blemished/broken... and makes it look really bad to the outside world.

I'm here because I like all the ideas that are pouring into the project, and I also see all the potential within a technology (if it works) that is designed as this is!

--- I hope you see I am not attacking.. I am CONGRATULATING EVERYONE here who is brave and steadfast supporting things here ---

btw... I am BUYING A LOT OF BTS!!! heheheehehehe... I will NEVER dump them! ...  I hope to "spend" them in a PREDICTION market that is better than Hive Mind... or maybe even Augur (though I like Augur's project so far... and have bought quite a few REPs

General Discussion / Re: BTC38's Fractional Balance?
« on: November 10, 2015, 03:50:33 pm »
Finally, they claimed their balance. I found some of their account and summed the total.

btc38-public-for-bts-cold: 228,400,000 BTS   http://cryptofresh.com/u/btc38-public-for-bts-cold
btc38-btsx-octo-72722:       96,200,000 BTS   http://cryptofresh.com/u/btc38-btsx-octo-72722
btc38btsxwithdrawal:             6,700,000 BTS  http://cryptofresh.com/u/btc38btsxwithdrawal
btc38-btsx-octo-7272:               250.000 BTS  http://cryptofresh.com/u/btc38-btsx-octo-7272
btc38-btsx-octo-727222:           119,000 BTS  http://cryptofresh.com/u/btc38-btsx-octo-727222
Total: 331,669,000 BTS

HOWEVER, according to my screenshot taken at 10/14, they said that they have 346,759k BTS (maybe this number is higher than 10/13's but IIRC, they said at least 340 mil at the snapshot)

The difference  is about 15,000,000 BTS (122 BTC equivalent)
We need a official response from BTC 38

How many different users do they have who hold all these BTS?

Wow, so if am reading this right, close to 20 percent of all bitshares in existence is at btc38?

There's 2,533,321,716 BTS in existence not counting the "reserve fund" so it's more like 13%.

What is the "reserve fund" total?  is it still 10% ?

Technical Support / Re: how to take back my vote power from proxy?
« on: November 09, 2015, 08:40:48 pm »

I don't have that button!!!

If you are using web wallet, try a refresh.  If using light client you may need  the latest version.  I'm not sure if the latest light client has this fix yet though.

using the desktop light client in windows 10

the download link doesn't work now:

https://bitshares.org/download/

https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-2/releases/download/v2.0.151101/BitShares-light_2.0.151103.exe

Update:  IT WORKS! -- thanks to everyone who helped --- I uninstalled the old client, and installed  BitShares-light_2.0.151105.exe!

btw... what is "100 newbie" ?

Maybe this can help

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,18887.msg243244.html#msg243244

Thanks!

Just a few minutes ago I did a similar thing...

I followed the instructions here:

https://github.com/bitshares/qt_wallet/commit/f941bc3a1101e8dc9bc23004a2bcb6d0b16e27f0

basically i did this:

- Uninstalled 0.9.3c
- changed the c:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Bitshares    to Bitshares.bk
- ran my 'portable'/old installation of Bitshares 0.4.24
- installed 0.9.3c again

AND VOILAAAA!!!! WORKED!!!

Thanks chryspano for your help also

Technical Support / Does Bitshares 0.9.3c import all older wallets?
« on: November 07, 2015, 07:48:25 pm »
I have an old Bitshares wallet backup (BitShares X Wallet Backup.json 107kb) from October 29, 2014 (maybe from ver 0.4.24)

I tried importing it to a new installation of 0.93c but it does not accept my password (i'm 99.999% sure it is correct)

I don't know what version it was created on and have no idea what to do.  The error I get:

http://imgur.com/kFqbyIm

edit: I found an old backup directory with bitshares ver:????, and it opened the wallet with my password.  I tried exporting from there, but it still didn't import to 0.93c

General Discussion / Re: Private keys into BTS 0.9.3c.
« on: November 04, 2015, 03:52:07 pm »
anyone know where I can get a copy of the blockchain current to the snapshot?

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,18885.msg243155.html#msg243155

Still not sure what to do.  Do I download entire blockchain and rescan 0.9.3c wallet, import keys, rescan?  Download from where?

Grab 9.3c
https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-0.x/releases

Download blockchain above.

Import your wallet from 9.2

Then use the Desktop instructions here to export your wallet from Console in 9.3c ...
http://blog.smartcoin.pw/2015/09/bitshares-how-to-prepare-your-wallet.html

I downloaded the blockchain...but where do I put it [windows 10]?

Found it:
c:\users\[user name]\appdata\roaming\bitshares\chain

Technical Support / Re: How can I see the MEMO part of a transaction?
« on: October 30, 2014, 11:52:07 pm »
if you want to deposit bts to btc38.com , you should write memo that is your account ID

Yes, I did that, and was wondering if there was a way to see that, or confirm that it was properly included in the sent transaction.  It seems that because of TITAN that is not possible.  Things have been resolved now, btc38 support came through for me

Thanks for the help

Technical Support / Re: How to have separate wallets with 1 account each
« on: October 30, 2014, 11:46:08 pm »
Could PLEASE possibly NOT BE CALLED: wallet.dat!!

and could it please be placed in the DOCUMENTS directory, and not some weird "shared folder" somewhere where people never look to backup their documents

It would even be safer in the PICTURES directory... I have had friends "backup" their computers and then come complain about having lost their bitcoins because they couldn't find the wallet.dat in the backed-up DOCUMENTS directory!

Is there a problem with saving absolutely critical files in a place where EVERYONE looks for important documents for backup purposes?

I totally agree with OP... not in the sense that it "matters" ... what I mean is, I'm looking at it from the (original) philosophical perspective where Dan was really convincing in his early pitch of Bitshares, and to have the project(s) be developed all in separate, competing DACs

and now it is going against it all... I guess others may still take his original ideas, and run with them... create Bitshares Classic as opposed to New Bitshares (yes, trying to make a Coke reference) :)

anyhow, I still think EVERYONE is trying to do the thing that is the best... and also starting to see that there is no way to predict where this project will end up... I'm sure it will be in a happy, bright place in the future!
