Just realized that I should have separated the lists in different posts so here are the rest of them ~
a SMILE is an emotoken and, for now, just a way to show love. Feel free to share, swap, or just keep them :)

Yes, thanks, Fuzzy, I am indeed considering how best to put this emotoken to good use.
For now, though, please consider a SMILE just a way of showing love.  :)

Actually, @svk is the machine. If you guys want to give props, please do so for him. As far as I can tell he's doing this without any formal agreements (yet) from CNX. If he were to submit a worker proposal for his efforts, I'd fully support it.

Thank you @svk and @wmbutler!

General Discussion / Re: Reasons for Lowering Fees
« on: November 14, 2015, 10:04:50 pm »
+5% to all for this complicated but interesting and useful discussion from many key viewpoints, imo  :)

Just to share, there are a few interesting articles about popular crypto exchanges and a little bit on their fee structures/solutions:
http://www.coindesk.com/bucks-to-bitcoin-top-exchange-platform-fees-compared/

While anyone who is/will be interested in Bitshares could be willing to pay a little more due to the philosophy/current brand(what we have and are aiming for that noone else provides yet: no counter-party risk, privacy, stability(but still dependent on liquidity), blockchain speed & DAC platform, economically fair/ideal ecosystem & more), it's very important to keep our existing users preferences in mind, of course, as well. And bc the crypto exchange business is competitive- Gemini has low volume currently, though they seem to be aiming for more institutional traders http://www.coindesk.com/winklevoss-bitcoin-exchange-gemini-win-traders/ ,  maybe there are some ideas in them to consider(possibly another way to support the merchants as well)?:

http://theblogchain.com/bitcoin-exchange-reviews/bitfinex-review/
"Another benefit of Bitfinex is a very nice fee structure. They run a partial maker-taker system, where the market maker ends up paying between .1% and 0(!)%, and the taker pays .2%. I believe they’re able to offer these fees because of the unique free market leverage system they utilize. By moving their risk to the lenders, they lower fees. They also pick up a percentage of the interest (15%), which again helps to keep their advertised fees down while keeping profits up."

Also, I believe OKcoin uses withdrawal fees though not sure how well that's going as their CTO left to work for Bitfinex.
And Bitstamp seems to have lowered their fees to .25%.

http://www.coindesk.com/high-frequency-trading-on-the-coinbase-exchange/
"Market-making also delivers real social utility. The deeper the liquidity provided by market makers, the more difficult it is to cause erratic spikes in price. Market makers also reduce the bid-ask spread, a concept most people aren’t even aware of: a testament to successful practitioners on Wall Street.
Even at current trading volumes, a lot of value can be captured by smoothing out market fluctuations. If bitcoin were to grow, the need for liquidity would also increase. I’ve learned that infrastructure isn’t just servers and github repos. It’s also financial middlemen(bots) who make markets work. The mere fact that I could dabble in this, as nobody, illustrates the wonderful openness of bitcoin."
(Bitshares currently seems to be working on this now)

+5% The first ever DAC seems to me to be Bitshares, the Exchange, built on top of Bitshares the Smart Platform, so I agree that it makes sense to show that the first DAC is absolutely a complete success and also to show that others can easily create future DACs on top of the platform, like Muse, etc, have already done and to promote that on the landing page as well(like theirs and others do).

It does seem that Bitshares has narrowed the focus now and can move relatively quickly toward this end.  :)

General Discussion / Re: Idea: make the blockchain a bond market lender
« on: November 12, 2015, 12:49:02 am »
Not clear to me .. do you propose to use bit USD as collateral for BTS then?

I think we had this discussion already some time ago and agreed that shareholders do not want to have BTS inflated like that .. Besides that, it would be pretty much possible (although, I am not sure about "guaranteed" profits)

If you want to go long USD, you borrow BTS from the bond market, buy it, pay interest on the loan, sell it, give back the BTS + interest, or get margin called. Either way the blockchain gets its BTS back 100% plus profits.

edit: shorts are more tricky, though.

The blockchain doesn't need to profit, people do.
The blockchain needs to facilitate people profiting, or do all the people exist to serve the profit of the blockchain?

Why would people lend if they can't get any interest? If they have to compete with the blockchain itself then they'll just lend on Poloniex. Where will people get 5 or 10% yield from to bring liquidity?

The blockchain could bring liquidity but it would only be temporary, it would be unnatural, and unsustainable.

I agree with this from my perspective as a BitShares user.  Interest & Dividends are strong incentives.

Yes, Okcoin uses P2P lending & Bitfinex calls it Margin Funding. I believe they both work like Poloniex to lend to margin traders, maybe.

An interesting article about the rise of P2P Lending and uberization of stocks and finance:

Didn't you attempt a BTS pump on twitter jonnybitcoin? We're waiting for it. Unless i misunderstood it https://twitter.com/JohnEGodfrey/status/662525371213049856

The problem is that the bitshares.org page promotes at the same time two different products: the BitShares blockchain network and the Graphene technology.
It should be split into two distinct webpages, i.e. we need a webpage promoting Graphene exclusively.

With the current setup, whenever I need to refer to Graphene I need to direct my audience to BitShares.org, which is not good if I need to talk about the general aspects of the technology and not about BitShares in particular (e.g. when I talk about Identabit, Muse, Play etc).
I totally agree .. and we will separated the Graphene idea out of bts.org into cryptonomex.com ...

What they said. Plus mention of bond and prediction markets to be built on top of it.

As well as Derivatives to be included in general at some point like 1broker.com offers. Because to my knowledge noone else does this but them:
https://1broker.com
https://twitter.com/1BrokerCom      -  everyone likes being told/tweeted that they are earning dividends, also.

+5% +5% +5% Valentin's trading page layout looks excellent to me overall- attractive, clean, and laid out well. If the order book is at least 25 orders deep and has depth shading for a quick gauge in one glance, I think it could be better even than most vertical ones and visually appealing with Valentin's color scheme, though I also think it would be great to offer 2 or 3 different overall 'skins' as fav mentioned- Night, Grey(Valentin's) and Day maybe.  Bitfinex has this order book shading feature in white: https://www.bitfinex.com/trading

For the trading chart, maybe there could be a tiny tool icon with drop down menu of indicators/tools at the top right of the chart like tradeblock has(but without having to expand the chart) https://tradeblock.com/markets/bfnx/xbt-usd/2h/

Also, while margin trading, something I prefer to keep an eye on is my account/margin trade balances, etc. I don’t personally prefer Bitfinex’s overall layout actually, but at least the important information is mostly all there, minus a good chart, so it's not necessary to click through to any other tabs while trying to assess one's overall trading activity. This could be another reason why they have the most volume in the US now for bitcoin/some alts at least, besides the main reason being that it’s reliable for margin trading specifically. Some people here have mentioned slight lags for margin trading at Poloniex, but I’ve found Bitfinex to be reliable, simple, fast, and seamless for both spot and margin trading.

Overall, Okcoin seems to offer in a pretty nice package(kind of Coinbase-like) most of the features that Bitshares does or could offer, like futures, P2P lending, and Algo support for liquidity but not Bitassets/UIA's(which is key since Bitcoin goes down when USD goes up, as they are correlated) and, of course, it isn't decentralized. It may be why they have the most trading volume in China and even if some volume isn't accurate or seems inflated, I think even if it's a 'fake it till you make it' situation, the perception that there is liquidity there(so they can enter/exit markets quickly) has even US crypto twitter traders increasingly participating in their exchange as well. Their website/exchange is well worth looking at: https://www.okcoin.com

I definitely agree with Mike623317 that maybe even right on the landing page/Dashboard like Valentin and Clayop linked to for Buy/Sell/Transfer would be good for people who don’t Buy/Trade anything but fiat to crypto of their choice(yet, if ever?). And maybe the header can include Affiliates for Developers & Merchants like shown in Coinbase(in 'Products’ dropdown menu, though) https://www.coinbase.com/signin and Okcoin: https://www.okcoin.com For example:

Dashboard   Exchange   Explore   Affiliates

And a small bell icon for general exchange notifications with a hover/show feature and question mark “?" icon for help/tours/tips, etc along with a sign in/account dropdown like Polo, and Finex do in the top right corner on their trading pages could be helpful.

Especially, API & Algo support at least for ctrader, Metatrader4, Protrader for pro-traders that liondani, lil_jay890 and others on other threads like svk have mentioned and for other exchanges like Coinigy, etc is really ideal for even wider adoption along with the current crypto user base as well.

Investing/Trading is people expressing/voting with their money for what they believe is currently of more value to them, and as well.attenuated and liondani highlighted earlier, it could be reflected in some part by the crypto trading volume. It is the barter system- so, it's voluntary and fair, which is what bitshares is all about, as I see it. Here are some notes of what seem to me to be Bitshares current strengths below:

Bitshares Current Strengths

Innovative & Diverse Decentralized Markets, Exchange, Blockchain & Platform
 - BitAssets/UIAs and alts, *Prediction markets, *Derivatives, Affiliates program (Developers/Merchants/Entrepeneurs)

*Excellent High Speed(Margin, Futures) Trading with *API/Algo support for protrader tools/bots, etc & *P2P Lending
- to become one of the fairest(most stable), most inclusive, and intelligent decentralized currency/asset/economic system, which is incentive to encourage investment/participation(liquidity) for Bitshares' Diverse markets/innovative features to shine, just like we need participation for the bitshares voting system to work optimally

First Decentralized Autonomous Company or DAC & DAC Platform
- Shares/dividends of Bitshares or any DAC built on top of Bitshares
- Powerful Smart contracts

Privacy
- *Easy Seamless Stealth transfers combined with the name/account system

Support
Supporters/Collaborators willing to participate/invest with their attention in many different ways - time, money, talents, business etc
- App for mobile and other devices or mobile version of some kind for truly expansive reach
- *Demo/intro video embedded in landing page that can be linked/available to share on social media/etc
- *Free beta invites to bitcoin/crypto traders & market makers like Gemini exchange did or Coinigy(see their twitter header) is doing as incentive to share info/videos, etc & spread the word

a * means that it’s in progress at the moment or could be..

Well, I didn’t expect to write this much but lol at myself for getting a little obsessed.. thanks if you read this  :o

A "Best Exchange Poll" already effectively exists and it constantly updated: just look at volume.  People trade at their preferred exchange and "vote" with their dollars and satoshis.

That is really a good (maybe optimal) metric!

PS metatrader4 is sure on top of the list...
I would say the best combination is metatrader4  + polo-like web gui

Hi, this is my first post though I've been following bitshares for a while now. It would be ideal to have a great decentralized exchange for decentralized currencies(and more, of course).

Here is an informative link to bitcoin trading volume I recently saw. You can change the currency to reflect the market you want to see. It looks like Bitfinex is most popular in USD, OKcoin for CNY, and Kraken for EUR and there's more though I'm not sure why Polo isn't included.. maybe this is more for bitcoin rather than alts, though I think for ease of use Polo and Finex are similar. Here's USD trading volume:

http://data.bitcoinity.org/markets/volume/30d/USD?c=e&t=a

The average US crypto twitter trader, at least, seems to like Finex for very seamless and easy margin trading as bull/bear(long/short) are just two sides of the same coin, so to speak, and naturally go together. Also, OKcoin seems popular for more serious traders because it has Futures. Bitcoinwisdom is excellent for crypto charts/tools, and Tradingview for trading charts in general, not just crypto. Coinigy also seems to be great for cross-exchange trading as Chris4210X describes, though it's newer. Access to tools(metatrader4, protrader) for pro-traders seems like a great idea as well.

I also like puppies' and tbone's ideas as well as the app and trollbox suggestion to help grow the community. I found a Finex app for iPhone the other day but didn't download it because I'd prefer if it were made by the exchange creators..
