Technical Support / Re: BTS Wallet Account Name "null" After Update
« on: May 15, 2018, 04:22:48 am »
Can you attempt to restore your .bin file to https://wallet.bitshares.org? Just want to get a baseline here.

2
Can anyone here request votes from the bitcrab camp? Thanks for the votes of confidence. Most bugs are gone now and I expect some serious polish by the end of this term.

3
As long as you are able to remit funds reliably, it's fine with me.

4
Agreed @abit, since the WP will require 35k bitUSD per month, this equates to 77K bts / month or 2592 BTS / day at today's rate of $.45 / bts. To be safe, it probably makes sense to request 6k per day to safeguard against a 50% drop during the 6 month period. @xeroc ?

Also, I have opened issue https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-ui/issues/1094 to add the Worker ID to the display in the UI to alleviate confusion.

Lastly, I presented a BIP to allow for the originating user to deactivate a WP. This will become a huge problem if the community begins to actively use WP's.

Bitshares Community,

Can you believe it's already been 6 months? Actually, we are just a few weeks shy of 6 months. Over this time, we made sweeping changed to how the UI functions and to its overall look. The goal from the start was to fix bugs and make marginal improvements to the feature set. I am hopeful that the previous budget which will cover the next two Sprints still will include TradingView integration to the exchange and provide for full trading and activity history via ElasticSearch. Assuming we complete those items, the next six months will bring:

  • An expanded budget to fund real UX talent
  • Responsive design on every page
  • Improved Multisig UX
We are going to maintain the existing bounty program but be aware of the additional hours required for a more professional UX team.

As with the previous proposal, Bitshares Foundation is handling the receipt and distribution of funds. The WP will be paid in USD and any overage BTS will be refunded to the pool at the end of the term. Here is a link to the formal WP:

http://www.bitshares.foundation/worker/budget/2018-02-bitshares-ui

If you are new to BTS and are unaware of the work carried out by this team, please take a look at the closed milestones 170830 - 180115.

Last, either proxy your votes to me, billbutler, or vote for this WP directly on the BitShares Wallet. Don't forget to click save after you check off your vote.

I'm happy to hear that you agree. It was our original intent to allow anyone to submit PR's and award them monetarily for accepted PRs. My question is this:

If I modify the WP to support a bounty system, will you support it? If you agree, I will modify it.

7
What if we formally modified the proposal to state that anyone in the community could claim an issue and work it for a bounty.

For example, we could attach a dollar value to each issue and members could submit a PR and be paid the bounty amount for each issue. This would open the process to anyone who had the necessary technical skills to resolve the issue? Would this strategy allow you, @bitcrab, to support the proposal?

EDIT:
In essence, this would turn the worker proposal into a UI development fund.

8
@bitcrab I believe you are referring to this issue: https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-ui/issues/202

It's on the first sprint to resolve.

9
Our worker proposal is intentionally open ended so we have the flexibility to address the issues that are most pressing to the community. It appears that the part of the concern is that a community sanctioned wallet would essentially compete with the efforts of abit. It's our belief that incremental improvements to the existing wallet would be a faster path to adoption, but of course without community support it's unlikely it will ever happen.

Many people have put in hours of work without being fairly compensated. Our team agrees that this is not the path forward. We would welcome paying anyone who submitted PR's that were accepted into the reference wallet.

10
does this include:

* work on open source explorer gui ( @oxarbitrage )

Yes, this proposal outlines the steps we will take to remove bugs and improve usability with input and feedback from the bts community.

* chrome push alerts

That has not been specifically requested, but if push alerts are important to you, I'd suggest you create a github issue, open a discussion so we can move it into a milestone.

* overwork, better stats

I don't know what this means.

* tailored landing pages for marketers

This has not been posted as a desired issue on the UI, but the work performed for the UI could certainly include this if it were posted, discussed and prioritized.

* where's can I check other projects/design portfolio

I don't have a design portfolio. This isn't a UX proposal, it's a general maintenance for the UI proposal. I have 25 years of experience managing various teams. I will not be handing designs down from on high. Rather, I plan to propose designs that can be discussed and iterated on consistently and methodically.

* why is there no mockup/first idea

Because a mockup is putting the cart waaay before the horse in my opinion. A mockup provides a false sense of security. This worker proposal is not about drawing pretty pictures. It's about creating a stable, bug free framework upon which to build an intuitive user experience.

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares price discussion
« on: March 16, 2016, 03:43:56 am »
Damn, never thought syscoin would trade higher than BTS lol
That should get some motivation

What do you mean?  Our market cap is more than 5X theirs.

he mistakenly compares the actual price of one share and doesn't account the total shares in circulation of each ....  :D

Let me clarify myself before too many people get cheeky about what I'm saying...
It doesn't matter per'se what the market cap is, or the amount of coins that are in circulation... yes those do come into play.
BUT... at some point it'll always boil down to one simple fact... am I/anyone willing to pay a specific price to purchase any product/service (forced pump/dumps partially excluded).

That being said,  if someone is willing to pay 0.00001400 BTC for one token of either BTS,  SYS or whatever... then that places monetary value of that specific token, in turn effecting it's Market Cap based on tokens in circulation.

I'm just trying to make a simple statement that within a 2yr span,  SYS coin had surpassed BTS in per coin value, not overall market cap.
An idea we all should let sink in a bit  ;D

ps- I'm in no way dissing BTS btw!!!
I'm all in BTS and will continue to!

Still, it's best to focus on trading volume and market cap. Coin price is only worth watching to determine your ROI. High market cap and high daily trading volumes are important because it allows user to get in and out of the asset when they choose to. These cryptos with under 30k of daily trading volume aren't liquid enough for investors participate because small amounts of cash move the needle too much.

Ah, my bad. I must have skimmed over that and assumed Xeroc created it as well. Thanks for clearing that up.

I've been reading a lot of the posts on this discussion board. At times I feel sorry for Larimer having to wade through the BS. This board has everything....shit tons of people with very little skin in the game wining, a few trollers/spammers, and a significant number of brilliant minds contributing (xeroc, svk and many others).

I hold Bitshares for one reason. I can use Bitshares as collateral to back up the shortsale of assets I believe are overvalued and to purchase assets I believe are undervalued. This is why Bitshares will survive. I have a reason (other than speculation) to hold them. I think Maidsafecoin and Ethereum have similar value propositions. It's not the monetary value of Bitshares that matters, it's the UTILITY of it. It's useful to me and it will be useful to others over time once they understand how it works.

And guess what, if I find it useful, I'll accumulate it. By accumulating it, I do two things (a) I decrease supply and (b) I increase demand. Basic economics people. If you don't understand it, read. And if you still don't understand it, read more slowly until it clicks.

Bitshares niche is a financial distributed trading platform. The world needs this and Bitshares will benefit as a result.

My worker proposal expired and I was privileged to work with the dev team on a few UX/UI items for the GUI. I also loved seeing @xeroc prediction market for the Superbowl (even though I took the wrong side on that bet!).

BM's latest whitepaper on a no fees approach should satisfy the latest legitimate fee based issues (particularly legitimate wrt micropayments).

I'd say let's all start acting like adults but there probably aren't many adults on this board. I feel momentum and good things right now. And remember:

The simple pitch for Bitshares is bitUSD and bitCNY. You can hold a crypto-derivative for a market pegged US Dollar and YEN. All the transmission benefits of a crypto with the price stability of FIAT. Plenty of people don't know this but besides using BTS as collateral, it's the single best motivator for BTC holders.
