Did you make any voting transactions in the original wallet?
Nope!

Indeed I am. I now have my old BTS balance in the new wallet. Thanks for your help guys!

It would be good if we could update our wallets from within the wallet. Perhaps incremental updates are possible for Github users (I don't know), rather than having to manually delete a wallet and download a new one. But I don't think you want to have your investor base be coders, at least not here in 2015 when hardly anyone knows how to code.

One issue I'm having is that it keeps asking me to rename my acct., saying that someone else already has that acct. name (which is probably me, of course, from a previous wallet). Would renaming my acct. hurt anything? Judging by my acct. name here, surely you can tell that I don't care much about what my acct. name is. blahblah7up, on the other hand, probably took weeks to come up w/ his acct. name.

If you really were successful in deleting the old wallet you would have been required to make a brand new account name and password when you installed v0.6.0.  Was that the case?  If so, I assume the passphrase it wants is the "password" from the old wallet.

If you weren't asked to create new login details from scratch when installing v.0.6.0, it means you didn't get rid of the old wallet completely and the problem is probably that it is not possible to import a wallet into itself, and the information about your funds is within the stuff you threw away.  In any case: DON'T EMPTY THE TRASH!

But it should be fine.  If you have the json file you are good.
Yeah, I had to make a new account name. I used same password when I signed up for a new account, but entering that password doesn't work when it asks me to enter a "pass phrase." The pass phrase is requested when I try to import the json. It claims it to be wrong and then locks me out. I can then get back into my new wallet again but cannot get my balance into the new wallet because that process (i.e. gettting into wallet, attempting go import json, wallet locking) just repeats itself.

Technical Support / Please help me recover my AGS

Hi. I am a Mac user. I had the Bitshares wallet installed. v0.4._

I had purchased AGS and then imported my private keys (i.e. the ones I used to purchases AGS) into that. So, I had a BTS balance in that wallet.

I tried to update the wallet to v0.6.0 from the update option within the wallet, but it wouldn't work. So, I exported my .json file and deleted the wallet. I still have the files, though, since I never emptied the Trash folder.

I then downloaded v0.6.0 and tried to import the .json. It asks me for my pass phrase, which I didn't know I even had. I just have my acct. name, my password, and the .json from the old wallet.

I keep failing the passphrase question. So now, I have the new wallet but with no BTS/AGS. Any suggestions?

Okay, so I haven't claimed my AGS yet. Which new wallet should I download? I need to get on this. Thx.
I have the Bitshares-PTS.app wallet.dat (which I sent PTS from in exchange for AGS), even though that app still doesn't open.
I also have the Electrum wallet.dat (which I sent BTC from in exchange for AGS). Is there anything else I need? Can I claim anything yet?

Technical Support / How do we claim AGS?
« on: March 26, 2014, 07:47:16 am »
Hi, on Feb. 28th, I sent PTS from the BitShares-PTS.app and also sent BTC from Electrum.

I have the records of addresses/amounts on my Electrum history, so no problem there.

However, Bitshares-PTS.app isn't opening for me, so I don't know how I'll retrieve the necessary info to claim my AGS.
When I try to open that app, I get this message: "Bitshares-PTS quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically."

Also, is the new wallet for claiming the AGS available yet? Thanks!

Fuznuts, I'm quite likely not telling you much of anything that you don't already know, but here are my thoughts on the matter: there aren't much of any thoughts on the matter. Having an ex-GS employee work in an entrepreneurial pursuit that involves finance is about as offensive as seeing a gay person in San Franicisco (i.e. it doesn't even register). In fact, investment banks and management consulting firms recruit at top schools and are pretty much the standard career path after undergrad. Would you rather have the guy that didn't get the GS gig and instead worked at some middle market bank we've never heard of? Not working at GS due to being on a moral high-horse comes off to me as likely coming from a position of privilege, especially since most ppl would practically kill to make that kind of money and aren't from a background to likely even know what an investment banker is in the first place, not being from NY, Boston, SF, etc. And were these ppl even banksters, or did they just work for GS? Even if they were banksters, if they were just analysts, you can take solace in knowing that they were the n00bs who got shit on constantly, worked longer hours than their coworkers and really didn't make all that much money.

but is it still a good idea to get angelshares instead of just keeping the pts (due to high amt. of ags purchases today)?

going by this:http://angelshares.info/index.php it looks like pts to ags was basically 1:1. Doesn't that make PTS a better deal, or no?

Just curious. :)

The more resources one has the faster one can accomplish one's goals.
True. Though the word "one" is a bit troubling in this case, since VCs generally agree that a tech company w/o a cofounder is a bad idea.

Technical Support / Converting PTS to AGS
« on: February 28, 2014, 04:44:42 am »
I now have my PTS out of the exchange, so that's good. And I still have some BTC in the exchange. What would be the best way to convert the PTS and BTC into AGS? I have the Bitshares AGS wallet, and that's the only wallet I have. Also, I can't use a credit card for AGS, can I? Thanks.

Can you ever have enough money?

Also, Invictus may be philosophically inclined to allow regular people to invest, because the Silicon Valley model really excludes almost everybody from participating, and the SEC won't let any stock get listed until its a bad deal for the average guy (it's to protect us).

I was just thinking, if Invictus does have a lot of BTC or cash, they could just put it into the BitSharesX bank, and a giant reserve of liquidity would really go a long way towards making the product safe and attractive.
Okay, then I wonder if we will get the same ROI as VCs, then. In any case, I'm excited about the future of Invictus, so long as its future isn't an episode of American Greed.

BTER doesn't has a good reputation among Chinese users. BTC38 is far more better but it's a little difficult for foreign users to register since the accounts are linked with the Tencent accounts and it only provides PTS/CNY trading.

I basically had a Chinese person tell me the other day that crypto traders in CN hate BTer. I don't know much about it, but my main concern w/ it is that BJ would stomp it out due to regulatory matters. Plus, being a Chinese site, I would think it would have an increased likelihood of being hacked. Seems like a lot of hackers live in CN and Slavic places.

Ha, I saw the number increase a bit finally.  :)
