General Discussion / Re: bitSHARES - As True Shares and Not a Currency!
« on: February 12, 2016, 10:08:20 am »
Making a bitUSD a special bitAsset is bad idea. It should not be different from any other asset pegged to fiat.

That's my only concern for me too... I like TonyK idea very much but we should not focus on bitUSD only...
What happens if real USD or Euro collapses?(it will....) We must focus on a basket of top bitAssets that includes the major assets (euro, dollars.pound etc...)
like the SDR for example...https://www.imf.org/external/np/fin/data/rms_sdrv.aspx  and we should add bitBTC and bitETH (or whatever crypto are @ top of the CMC list)
... since I expect the FIAT money will loose value hardly the next months....

PS tonyk unites us again!  :)   +5%

One of the major benefits of basing this off of stake is that it prevents sybils.  If you create 10000 empty accounts you wont be able to them to get free transactions since they all have 0 stake.  If you spread your stake out to these 10000 accounts then you will get the same amount of free transfers that you would get from all of your stake being in one account.

You should able to activate sometime this week....
And obsiously, I have no problem returning 0,1 btc to the ones being impatient.

We waited about 5 months and you call us impatient?
Have you said somewhere else except after this post that we will be able to activate this week?   :o

May I suggest you close this thread? "Emergency Measures: Temporary Shutdown" is not what everyone wants to see on top of the BitShares discussion board.

For every seller there is a buyer which means you get your fee.

Well, central exchange gets to charge market fee from "both counterparty per trade", but what you are saying is that BitShares exchange will only allow to charge market fee from the buyer, which is only one side. So, yes. You will get your fee on a sell too, but it only adds up to half compared to centralized exchanges.

...except you charge "double" the price compared to the centralized exchange...   8)

General Discussion / Re: New Stealth Transfer Worker ($1000)

You can get rich by risking your life savings on a 1000-1 dice spin if you want. Even if the odds are tilted highly in your favour, it's still incorrect to make such a large bet as your risk of ruin is so high.

If I gave you 20-1 odds on rolling a 6 with a dice for a 1000 spins. Would you get wealthier by risking your life savings on one spin or by betting 10% on each spin? The person who bet his life savings has an 83% chance of going broke, he's guaranteed to, if he keeps betting. However the person who bets 10% per spin is likely to become wealthier than you could imagine.

In this industry, from an investment POV there are multiple high risk, higher reward plays so putting your eggs in one basket is uneccessary.

He's said he's considered his decision and he's happy with it. That's fine. I agree we as BTS shareholders will likely benefit.

I wouldn't compare business opportunities with dice rolls.
In the end you have no influence in the outcome when rolling a
dice, but you can influence a business, support its ideas and help it grow.

Else, I agree. From probability POV, you better put your effs in multiple baskets.

He gives you 20-1 odds on his example! I would definitely choose dices over a business opportunity if that would be a real case scenario...

PS you have no influence, but you know  "exactly" the outcome... "longterm"...
