For helping the testnet then I'm up for it, also for the initial phase of getting the system up and running I'd also be happy to help out until enough people show up who want to do this as their jobs.

So I also raise my hand, vps located in the Netherlands.

@bluemeanie1: dank je voor de links (saw you answering in Dutch on the nxtforums).

You seem to have a different concept of DAC, because to me it sounds more like a traditional centralized corporation with a lot of the legal and financial administration on a decentralized ledger/administration system. So I'm a bit confused in how this is decentralized and autonomous, because it sounds more like what bitsharesME is hoping to do over here, issuing shares (in centralized corporations/entities) but tracked and issued on a decentralized network.

Your project does seem to be a lot more complex than bitsharesME, when you talk about implementing all these legal systems and contracts in your system.

It hasn't been merged, and the most recent version builds

Did a fresh git clone and I got the Titan-branch to compile, thanks. Any ETA on when the testnet is up again? I'm assuming the net is down, because I'm getting the exact same output as sudo, including "blockchain_block_num": 15168, "network_num_connections": 0.

There also seems to be some rather heavy editing/censoring going on over on bitcointalk in favour of keeping the PoW status-quo according to some people on that nxt-forum. Has anyone noticed that happening in the discussions around bitshares-dpos as well?
Interesting (the censoring)... do you have a link?

I have a bad habit of not making bookmarks of information I found very quickly, only to discover afterwards that I'm unable to find it again. I found another thread discussing a similar occurrence and it seems they are referencing the discussion about censorship, unfortunately I'm unable to use the search function on that website, because I've forgotten my login (Could very well be I forgot to register as well, I'm losing track of which forums I've registered to).

EDIT
Sorry bluemeanie1 didn't mean to ignore you. Some members who are also part of the bitshares community are working on a collaborative project under the name BeyondBitcoin and are trying to get the discussion going on that subject via interviews or weekly meetups on the mumble voice-chat server. Maybe you would be interested in doing either an interview on your project or attending one of the mumble-sessions as a guest speaker?

From what I understand the general idea behind the BeyondBitcoin project is to have people from different communities do their own thing and hold their own meetups and digital conferences and such on the mumble server and try to get some cross pollination going, without needing to travel across half the globe and pay high entrance fees to attend a bitcoinconference.

Keep up the good fight!

I really enjoyed this post and very eloquent summary of the past month, although I could do without the mental image of comparing the power of your "love lance".

On the github site I saw a notice that the titan-branch has been merged. Does this mean we no longer need to download and compile the titan-branch separately?

Will there be a notice when the new test-chain is up and the clients can be compiled and run? Currently I'm unable to compile the titan-branch on Ubuntu-14.04LTS with the topmost error being this:

General Discussion / Re: Masterplan
« on: June 01, 2014, 07:09:52 am »
If I understand you correctly CLains you're not exactly proposing a masterplan in the traditional sense and not trying to tell people what to do, but more a set of game theory like focal points, which I think is a great idea especially especially when communication and information is limited. I also suggested something similar for the mumble-sessions, but your over arching approach is even better.

Just creating a number of those focal points and communicating them effectively and clearly, without much fluff should work splendidly. I also think they should be broad enough to not limit attention into one particular area or solution in order to prevent tunnel vision, which in my opinion is a common outcome (there could even be situations where tunnel vision is desired when focused attention and effort is desired). Also as you suggested those focal points do need some planning and logistics plus some clearly defined subjects and a physical presence in the form of developers or very knowledgeable community members in order to actually be able to draw people in.

I also agree that it doesn't need to be fancy, just easily accessible, clear and to the point, however it does need to be brought to peoples attention and as big an audience as possible.

There is one big risk though. I do not think this plan should be editable by large numbers of random people, because even your average troll would love to mess with such a plan, especially if it allows them to mess with the minds of a large number of people.

Btw I think these issues will need to be worked out by each and every DAC separately as well. Looking at some of the posts on this forum I've noticed that there are too many people thinking about DACs not as decentralized communication and interaction networks, but really as companies in the traditional sense where they expect to receive some kind of finished product and be able to bitch at customer service. This looks to be a completely new field to explore and goes against a large number of traditional management ideas and culture.

Before I go off topic too much (and I really want to) I'll pull it right back into your plan and make a suggestion as central topic around a focalpoint/meet-up/conference/hangout/whatever: How can decentralized planning and management work effectively?

Technical Support / Re: How do we claim AGS?
« on: May 29, 2014, 07:48:30 am »
Keep those files and keys safe and be very, very careful where you import them. Those keys are your access to all future chains that will decide to airdrop/honor the pts-holders and ags-donators. So should the bitshares ecosystem really gain traction, then your wallet will give access to multiple chains and probably be prime targets for the less conscientious folk.

You can see how much ags you are entitled to on the agsexplorer site and filling in your public address (do not fill in your private keys), from which you donated your btc.

For now you can only claim your shares on the test network, but that is not without it's risks and technical difficulties and you'll have to decide for yourself if you are comfortable with that.
Otherwise you could chose to wait till "official" released wallets show up, that will let you import your files and keys.

If the concept of decentralized content selling has been worked out then I'm all for a decentralized bazaar (online marketplace).

Unfortunately I think there are still a few components and concepts missing before that would work. Like reputation tracking, escrow and of course a network of safe-houses and false identities for ByteMaster and other bazaar devs, because the inquisition will be hunting them down to the ends of the world for the heathen concept of real free trade.

Just to make sure, I assume the doodle votes are for the days that would be convenient instead of clicking on the days that are not.

I guess Clains vote for not being able to attend on any day in the week, makes me wonder if I filled out the form inversely.

Trying to calculate whether it's feasible to subsidize miners to get to the next reset

That would be pointless. After the next reset, difficulty will be so low that it'll only take a couple of hours to reach the reset after that, and then difficulty will be really high. Much higher than it is now.

If the goal is only to reach the reset point that would be useless yeah, but I read it as propping up the network to work well enough till they are ready to hard-fork.

If you're an avid gamer, you might be able to convince yourself to temporarily run a couple of 280X pts-miners for quite a boost in network hashing and after that have some reasonable powerful graphics to play with. Maybe in anticipation of coding in 3d with castar-glasses or something like that. Realtime 3d visualization of the network to help analyse it.

Don't know how accurate the numbers on this site are, but it's the best I could find. If those numbers are for bare metal than you'd have to calculate some loss in performance as well for overhead in virtualization.

I did run across this remark via google in a discussion on ypool
Quote
Dual Xeon E5-2697v2 512Gb RAM, OCed to 3.4 GHz, RAM at 1940. approx. 1200 CPM
A quick check of the specs on that cpu would make that a dual 12 core so that would average around 50 cpm / core when overclocked from 2.7 GHz on most likely bare metal. I'm not an overclocker, so I have no clue how performance scales compared to percentages of overclock. Worst case scenario that would mean a 26% loss in performance on standard clocks and another couple of percent for running in a virtual machine on a VPS. So at 30% that would come in at around 35 cpm for each core. Now you need to find the price per core for your local VPS to see what that would cost per month.

Keep in mind I'm just making a very crude guess here, I'm not able to confirm any of the above, because I do not have a VPS running.

What's the cpm for a 4gb cloud miner? Trying to calculate whether it's feasible to subsidize miners to get to the next reset

If you want I could setup a VPS with 6 cores on a xeon 2600 as a test and see what that does.

I'm assuming you're targeting the next reset to hard-fork to dpos and just looking for ways to get to the reset faster. Not too sure if subsidizing miners would work, but doesn't hurt to check either. Maybe other incentives could be setup (some might have been suggested in this thread before).

Btw how would the subsidizing work? Issuing a bonus on each block reward would require some cooperation with the mining pool operators I suspect, not everyone will be solo-mining.

Can someone calculate

* price PTS has to hit to make mining profitable at this difficulty
* average inter-block time
* marginal cost of running miners at a loss to bring inter-block time to under 3 hours

Calculating this also requires an agreed upon electricity cost/watt and what is considered the average way of mining (cpu / gpu for example).

I can give some of my numbers, but I don't know the exact number of PTS I'm receiving or at what intervals. By coincidence I had a couple of R9 280X gpus that are meant for other projects and it also just so happens that NaN released mining software that favors those exact cards, so I don't know if it would be fair to call that standard for all miners. I also had to improvise on the spot, so I do not have an optimal solution when it comes to cooling, powerdraw, crappy internet connection and no optimal clocks.

At the moment (just logged in to take a look, haven't been monitoring over a longer period of time) I have a total of seven 280X cards running a combined total of around 36440 collisions/minute with a total powerdraw of roughly 1700 Watts. If we use the one gpu per miner metric then this averages out to a little over 5200 c/m at 243 Watts.

I'll have to leave it to others to work out how much PTS per watt/hour that equates to with the current state of the network. I just figured I'd pitch in while I could, when I saw the miners exodus and NaN anouncing the release of his newest mining software.

First and foremost, see if you can get fuznuts, or whoever has the access rights to it, to post these kinds of announcements or planned events in the welcome message of the mumble server, that is the first place if should be posted imo.

I can only vote for a single day in the poll, for me as long as it is one evening in the week it doesn't really matter which evening that is, because I can try to reschedule around it.

Another point is, is this meetup focused on bitshares or is it more beyondbitcoin? If it's the latter then this poll probably should be crossposted on a number of the other forums, where people are trying to wrap their heads around other applications of decentralized technologies.

My last suggestion for the moment, for the time this poll is still running, would it be possible to just set a time that would fit your schedule Delulo and see how many people show up? Possibly try and anounce a couple of different days and see when most people show up, or during the meetup discuss what time would be most convenient.

Oh, just thought of another one while writing the last paragraph, so this will really be my last suggestion in this post. Maybe posting a central topic (or a number of them) for discussion or some questions (might also be an offer to explain what bitshares is all about, because I could conceive of people being confused and looking for some help) might make more people interested in participating no matter the date and time.
