General Discussion / Re: Introducing BitShares Object Graph

+5% This is excellent and of bigger importance than most people realize.

I follow all of the major crypto tech quite closely and I can say without reservation that Bitshares is in a completely different league.

How is it the market completely ignores these types of announcements? I immediately bought more BTS, most folks sold.

Huh?

Google ads etc. are tacky, end of story.

You don't see any large or reputable financial institutions cluttering up their websites with banners and ads. There is a reason for this. Instant loss of credibility.

I strongly disagree with 3rd party advertising on bitshares and related websites.

Regarding indemnity/legal aid fund - excellent idea.

I know there was a rather involved discussion about a certain percentage of BTS revenue being allocated to a reserve fund, the primary purpose of which would be to self-insure/provide liquidity in the event of some catastrophic market event.

Could the devs confirm the status of this fund? Has it been implemented or abandoned?

If abandoned we should give serious consideration to reinstating a reserve fund with very specific rules for use.

I do understand that a bunch of 100% pay delegates could be voted in to pay for legal costs if needed, but a dedicated reserve would be a very novel feature for a crypto-finance platform and would further the credibility/resiliency of BTS.

This entire exercise is a learning experience and illustrates what happens when software developers try to manage things outside their areas of expertise

+5% Bitshares is light on PR/Marketing and general strategic planing imo.  It seems like the guys at Nullstreet may be filling in the PR/Mkting end.   Hope fully we can get someone one that is strong in business strategy to complement BM's  prowess in the general vision and technology.

After the holidays and after I tie up loose ends with my other online businesses, I'll be stepping up in a big way.

Hell yes.  +5%

http://bytemaster.github.io/update/2014/12/18/What-is-BitShares.html

Answering the question “What is BitShares?” has been one of the most difficult challenges I have faced. BitShares is so many things to different people and there are a thousand different ways of understanding what BitShares is. This post will tell you what BitShares is to me, its founder. Before getting into the long-answer to this question, let me give you the executive summary. BitShares is one of the most important tools that any community can use to secure their freedom; an idea whose time has come. After reading this post I bet you will agree.

Absolutely fantastic! Lucid, concise and comprehensive.

This material should feature prominently on the main website.

I also hope Methodx picks this up as a core element of the marketing materials.

I hate to be that guy, but can someone tell me what exactly Brian did over the last year? And how much he was paid to do it?

Lord knows I've had hires go pear shaped and it's just a part of business.

But I'm a bit choked at being told 'hush hush big things are being done just wait and see' for months on end and then the punch line is... well, he was good at organizing conferences.

A few speaking engagements and some dinners does not a year long marketing gig make.

Kudos to BM for pulling the plug, and thank God Methodx has stepped up and wow, watching the Bitshares platform course-correct-by-consensus is giving me goosebumps.

But I've got to say that Brian's 'Thanks for all the fish' exit is unacceptable.

What in the hell has he been doing for the last year?

Any reason Methodx and Brian can't have a pow wow and compare notes so Methodx can fill in any gaps in Brian's marketing strategy?

Brian says to Methodx "I'm doing X,Y,Z".

Methodx says to BM "I think we need to do A,B,C"

BM and Methodx say to community "Methodx is going to do {ABC} and requires $$$ to do so. {ABC} is complimentary to {XYZ}".

Where {} are sanitized to protect whatever competitive advantages there may be.

Community says "Yay! We trust BM and Methodx. Go for it!".

We've kind of done this already. Also, please keep in mind I spent over 80 hours the week before last planning and strategizing, working on projects and co-ordinating marketing efforts with core team members. I need to start focusing on my real business that makes me actual money... Even if I'm obviously in love with bitshares, reality is starting to set in. There might be a fix in the works that'll get me paid though, so stay tuned.

Great news! Thank you for the update - you absolutely should get a chunk of AGS funding to execute your strategy.

Great news, especially push-back from the establishment. Means you are heading in the right direction...

I think the root of this problem is Brian's failure to engage the community on the same level as other core BTS team members, rather than a need to know what he has or has not done with funds.

Most of the BTS dev team has a high level of engagement with the community.

The community expects transparency, and so it should, however marketing is one area where it is not necessarily in the best interests of the shareholders to be transparent.

Even Methodx took his marketing efforts to an invite-only forum... and his presence in the open forum has since diminished considerably.

Brian could do a better job of posting updates and being more active in the community.

That said, I think a forensic audit *after* Brian's marketing strategy goes live is a great idea and would certainly help with deciding who gets a marketing delegate position going forward...

General Discussion / Re: [FYI] Microsoft now accepts Bitcoin through BitPay

Strange how BTC demand seems dismal on the open market but there are buyers to move 50,000 BTC via auction.

I've said this before and still believe it to be true - bigger fish are becoming whales and are keeping the spot price down.

If you've done any research on commodities market manipulation (gold, silver etc.) you will know that manipulating the spot price of something as small as BTC is trivial.

I fully expect an all-exchange pump to coincide with ETF release.

Thereafter the whales will probably take serious profits and move into 2.0 tech. Repeat.

How are they keeping the spot price down?

The mysterious 'they' buy X coins off-market and sell Y coins on-market, where X >> Y.

Rallies are clipped, bottoms are bought and sell pressure seems to be just enough to keep things at a simmer.

It wouldn't take much to spark another media-fueled frenzy that, considering how many fiat pipelines have opened up, would get out of control fast.

Of course this all speculation; I have nothing to go one but a feeling.

My feeling is simply that the next leg up is being held back until the ETFs are open for business.

General Discussion / Re: The Bitshares SUPERbull thread
« on: December 09, 2014, 03:20:50 pm »
Lol everytime the price jumps up like that, I wish I had sold some and waited...but I know, I just f'ing know that the one time I decide to take the plunge and sell some the bull rally will start without me and I'll end up buying back at a premium.

Trading drives me bonkers. I don't know how people can do it without going mad. Sticking to my hold strategy...for now.  :P

Good call btw lil_jay. Spot on.

Yeah it is really hard to time a bottom. Although in a few years I honestly believe that this thread will feel so stupid. Just like the speculation threads on bitcointalk arguing about whether you should buy bitcoin at $0.20 or wait till a drop to $0.15 :D now bitcoin is $400 ish and it really doesn't matter whether you paid $0.05 more.

The trick for early adopters of bitcoin was being a strong hand to see it all the way though and not cashing out a long the way. You would have had to hold through the price jumps of $1, $5, $10, $50....

Stay strong and hold for the next few years!

Yep, this.

Just hodl and let time do your trading for you.
