I would highly recommend taking a look at my proposal for a referral program. If you want BitUSD to spread virally, this is what needs to be done.

Advertising > Users > Share value

Advertising brings users which ultimately determines share value.

I agree this is a good idea. Just need to make sure it pays for results like trading activity  and can't be easily gamed.   I think gaming sites give referrers a cut of their profits (profit sharing).  Residual income is a very powerful incentive vs one-time fees.

1. pay your employees in bitUSD
2. pay your contractors in bitUSD
3. let the bitshares DNS, Votes, Music etc. integrate bitUSD payment from the start - as easy as possible
4. establish an easy way to convert USD in bitUSD - this will bring new money in the system

we need more purpose for bitUSD and everything else will follow

 Exactly! +5%

Lot's of truth here!  +5%

Edit: Fiat On-Ramps + merchant adoption + best interest we can give without inflation or spending marketing budget on.
Their are 2 arguments at work here.
1. give bitUSD value through utility like the above states
2. add interest/yield to bitUSD

Unless bytemaster knows something we don't and all ready has a plan for option 1 through a deal with a gateway/on-ramp I just don't see the logic of option 2. btsx reached the cap it is at today because of the value of the platform, why wouldn't we apply the same logic to bitUSD?

Well there's money from long term shorts who dont mind competing on fees and not collateral. Assuming two equal systems the one that added the interest from the long term shorts would win, so I'm in favour if adding interest.

In terms of the marketing fund suggestion, I think, again assuming two equal systems, at whatever stage they are, if one had $1 million of promotional funds to subsidize BitYield for the first 6 months it could probably kickstart $20 million worth of BitAsset demand & as a result would most likely be the one that got bootstrapped. So I see the logic there.

I think if you did this in isolation, that is, without any improvement in general BitUSD utility (i.e. converting to fiat and/or merchant adoption), it would not have a great effect.  Done in combination I would agree it could be beneficial.

Edit:  First thing I did after buying BitUSD as a new user was try to convert to USD and it was not an encouraging experience.

its python3 .. you need python3-requests

omg ur so fast, so how do I install these? I already have "apt-get install python"

I ended up using pyenv to install python3 and to switch python environments then created a shell script to call the price feed script from cronjob so the environment was setup right for finding the right python.

General Discussion / Re: Checklist for PTS to DPOS: You can help!
« on: October 01, 2014, 10:07:20 pm »
Here is a variation of my previous proposal. What if I3 did the work to release the PROTO user-issued asset on BitShares X (and covered all necessary fees to make that possible)? And in return, the community accepts scaling the PTS snapshot to 1.8 million shares (still a better deal than wasting all remaining 0.27 million shares to POW miners), leaving the other 0.2 million shares as a gift to I3 to compensate them for their effort and as extra funds to help their continued efforts in supporting the BitShares ecosystem. If the community were to accept this proposal, would I3 accept the offer?

Sounds good to me.

This may not be valuable input but as a user who has bought BitUSD and Shorted BitUSD and thought about it (granted not at a very sophisticated level :) ) I was way more excited about the interest than worried about the collateral level.

Is it not technically feasible to add PTS as an asset on BitShares X and have individuals import their wallets to claim those PTS?

Seriously. It makes far more sense to make it a user-issued asset with maxed out supply on the BitShares X blockchain (if technically possible).

And while your at it, mix in the AGS snapshot too to have a united AGS/PTS protoshare that future DACs can credit by at least 20%.

Interesting ideas.  That would be so cool.  One system to rule them all....(sort of).

Are we getting less "interest" with the new short rules?

If so, I don't think this is a good trade off for excess collateral.

Glad you are grandfathering "old shorts" in.  It's all getting rather complicated...hope at some point there is a trading guide of sorts.

Is their a penalty for staying in a short position?  I thought I read something about that but I'm not sure.

I assure you, we are working tirelessly behind the scenes.  We are focusing our energy on "on ramps" as bytemaster said.   Credit cards, debit and bank transfers direct to BTSX and bitUSD.  I hate to say just wait, but that's what I'm saying.  I cant give details until after the fact, as we're talking to a lot of potential partners who want to help us.   And yes, we've been invited to money 2020.  Dan will be speaking there, if he accepts.  B

Very glad to hear this.  I think this is what everyone is hoping is going on so to get some confirmation is great.  +5%

KeyID / Re: DNS DAC Question About Current Model
« on: September 30, 2014, 01:33:23 am »
I never said fixed cost. It's the same auction model as all of the test networks we've done.

Okay, now I'm confused.  "One-time up front cost" would be interpreted by many as fixed cost.  So, what does one-time up front cost mean?

General Discussion / Re: Future DAC Delegate Pay Model
« on: September 29, 2014, 01:22:29 pm »
I have to admit that I somewhat dislike the proposed system.
Are there any advantages, that being a delegate and getting funding is so closely entangled? I think it would be better to leave the delegate pay system as it is in BitsharesX right now and implement a more or less independent funding feature. Your proposed system has multiple disadvantages:

1. You need to be a delegate to potentially get funding. Especially in the beginning it is a big hurdle to set up and maintain a delegate node.
2. There is a limited number of delegates. If there are many smaller projects this will probably be a bottleneck. Moreover this might have the effect that projects that aren't finished get voted out just because of the shortage of active delegate positions.
3. There are competing criteria when selecting delegates. It is not only about the trusworthyness and ability of an individual to maintain a delegat node but also independently the plans for projects that need funding. That might lead to an overall decreased blockchain security and stability.
4. Once high payed delegates get voted in they are not incentivised to finish on minimal budget and time. Getting voted out again is the only threat and in my opinion not sufficient to motivate the delegate. This is a general problem of every solution that isn't timely restricted.

I tend to agree with this.  Not sure why being a delegate (paid miner) is related to funding and DAC development.  I'm guessing so that the Music DAC can more easily raise funds to actually make their blockchain a Music DAC?  I'm probably confused.

This is probably why we will not be able to have anonymous accounts in the future.  One word comes to mind....terrorism.  We must stop its action at all costs.
aehm?

sorry but I don't fall for the "terrorism" shit .. you know that more people die due to cancer OR car accidents OR weapons fired at family mates in the US than by terrorism?!?
Get the numbers straight an we can talk! anonymous transactions ARE an important feature .. and the blockchain enables them no matter what the front end allows the end users ..

However, BM wants to add the ability to ALSO have verified names and public transactions .. and THAT is a killer feature

+100% (don't get me started...)
