KeyID / Re: DNS DAC Question About Current Model
« on: September 28, 2014, 04:33:04 pm »
I have a question related to the usefulness of the DNS DAC.
Suppose I have a business and I plan on creating a website.
Suppose I have to choose between DNS DAC and traditional dns registration (assume all browsers support both and there are no compatibility issues).
Assume I have an unique unregistered name.

Traditional dns registration will cost me $15 per year and traditional security certificate (https://www.rapidssl.com/) about $50 => totaling $65 per year.
How can I plan the cost for the new DNS DAC ? It is actionable for every timeperiod. This year it could cost me $30 next year $3000.

Given the above scenario what should I pick and why? What benefits will I get using the DNS DAC ?

Am I the right target for DNS DAC? If not what is the target?

Which domain model are you talking about? I decided against agent's model after implementing it and thinking through some of the cases more carefully...

The model I'm planning has a one-time up-front cost.

General Discussion / Re: Different fees for different short holding periods

I expected the price to rise sometime in probably the next few months, not necessarily real soon...
the goal of the proposal is to avoid such free lunch an incentive traders to make more short/medium term predictions.

Almost feels like there should be a "grandfathering" clause or something then, I would've never opened the shorts if I would have known that. I've already lost some BTSX getting margin called in the BitCNY market (due to the low liquidity, not the actual price on the exchange) and I wouldn't have risked more of my balance if I didn't think I could hold it until BTSX really took off.

 :(

I agree.  It doesn't seem fair to apply this to existing shorts.

I havent been keeping up. What exactly has he said that warrants an entire attack thread dedicated to him ?

... I'm new here, & this is among my first impressions of the BitShares community:

Why did you change you handle?
...

What are you referring to? I registered as FuLl originally. Am I misunderstanding what you mean?

Sorry, Chicken-brain-nes must be more widely spread, than my models suggested...

...I will update the models , if those findings are confirmed...

...In the meanwhile, are you positive you do not have wings and a real good eye site?

Apparently he decided I was someone he doesn't care for, without doing any due diligence to determine if I deserve this kind of treatment (as if _anyone_ does).

Seriously people, if I didn't believe in the project, I would've turned around & walked away never to return right then.

It's too bad you posted his comments...because I have to admit that their pretty damn funny (ROFL)...but sorry if you were offended.  Sometimes their are trolls and haters that need battling and innocent parties get caught in the cross-fire.

I am fairly sure that I could buy some nice breasts with my BTSX :)...

BitBreast... tracks the value of breast implants :)

You could go for the real deal -> in some countries it is legal. Pricing per hour.

Just remember my motto, "If you can touch them, their real!"

Technical Support / Re: How to remove BitsharesX from Windows
« on: September 26, 2014, 04:28:23 pm »
Be advised that following the instructions below will COMPLETELY remove your BitsharesX wallets!!

Proceed with caution and backup your wallet and the directory below if you have funds in your wallet.

In addition to uninstalling in Windows, which you seemed to have done already, you will have to remove the whole Bitshares folder in:

c:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Bitshares X

where username is your username.

You can then re-install.

I have seen this error myself and just ignored it as I didn't see any adverse affects from it.  My guess is a bug.

General Discussion / Re: Delegates Please Publish Feeds More Often
« on: September 26, 2014, 03:32:39 pm »
You could always put a configuration to the script that assigns weight on each exchange's feed.
Each delegate might want to tweak the weights depending on his "believes"/policies or whatever.

So, you could have one script with some delegate configurable settings.  Sounds interesting.

I just think the energy spent monitoring and chastising delegates may not be well spent.  Maybe better to just provide the script with some configurable settings and release it under github like the client itself.

It seems most of the delegates are using the auto script from the Bitsuperlab, because frequent updating is hard to be maintained by manually doing it. However it means most of the price feeds will be the same, then what's the point of publishing price feeds by delegates? Why we don't just integrate one price feed in wallet?

Because the consensus logic needs the feed.... because single source is too much trust in one individual... because the plan is for delegates to have increasing variety of feed publishing policies.

I understand BM's comments but I must say I am sympathetic to either having the feed built-in or at least having the official dev team take over the price-feed script. I think many of the delegates did not expect and are not prepared to maintain a price-feed script.  If for no other reason than ensuring some sort of consistent approach and quality control.  There doesn't seem to be any QC on the price feed that delegates provide and many are apparently not providing any.

Every argument you have made is true today but will not be true in the future.... to presume that this community and our product cannot find people to create similar infrastructure is a tad insulting and fatalistic.   We know what we have to do, there are HUGE profits to be made by doing it and I am confident that we can convince major infrastructure providers to get on board BTSX.

I'm not presuming it can't be done.  I'm not here for my health.  I'm merely pointing out that it will be extremely difficult.  I definitely don't buy the idea that we're going to have 100 (or even 5) different viable altcoins integrated into the world's financial systems.  Bitshares might be able to unseat Bitcoin, but to get the mainstream support you have to convince people that Bitshares is going to be the one.  That is hard when they can see that Bitcoin has 1000 times more adoption.  I've invested in Bitshares.  I think it can be done.  I just think there is a high chance for failure, and I'm trying to feel out the details of how the community thinks about these things.

I don't think it's easy but for sure it's not a mean technical challenge as Methodx has pointed out a number of times.  In my view it's comes down to stabilizing and simplifying the client & the assets themselves, some user documentation (user guides: basic/avanced), aligning incentives/benefits for adoption, marketing and overcoming political inertia of Bitcoin.  In particular BM and the team are very good at the bolded part IMHO.

BTSX is not a currency, BitAssets within BTSX are the currency.
BTSX is the "bank" that is the source of credit behind the BitUSD issued.

Network effect is the #1 driver for long term growth.  Achieving network effect for BTSX holders is my #1 goal.

However, everyone who has a stake in BTSX got it on equal footing by mining/buying/etc with their own funds.   I do not expect any individual including myself to fund development out of their own pocket so that everyone else can benefit from it.   BTSX has a development fund of ~100M BTSX and as long as we can grow the value of BTSX faster than we spend it the network can thrive.

I must admit that you do a great job thinking through and trying to aligning incentives for everyone in the right direction.

KeyID / Re: Alternative DNS White Paper
« on: September 25, 2014, 04:05:17 pm »
I have only 1 question.  Is their anything in either approach to stop someone from using their greater wealth to silence someone or some opinion by outbidding them for their current well know website name and putting up some crap/contrary site?  That's my concern with the situation where you already have a .com site and want to have the same name in the new system.

Hold on buddy... the value of BTSX is speculative based upon where we will be and when we will get there.

If we release BitAssets before we work out all the UI and Market Engine kinks then we make a bigger mess for ourselves.

General Discussion / Re: NuBits
« on: September 24, 2014, 06:22:50 pm »
If NuShares placed their Shares as collateral against NuBits then you would have BitShares assuming NuShares were a freely traded crypto and the interest rate voted on by NuShare holders was the interest rate PAID by the shorts to the longs.

What happens if the collateral loses value? This approach introduces a serious default risk. As it is, the viability of NuBits does not depend on maintaining the value of NuShares.

I think if their is no collateral their is no value to maintain. :)

Agreed - but also the nubits system produces no value...

Unlike Btsx, which is an exchange with revenues (value creation) as well as a 200% collateralized bank.

Yes, i agree.  My remark was kinda tongue in cheek.
