Not mine but you've notified me in the past and I'm thankful for that so I could fix the problem.  Added your highly reliable delegate angel.bitdelegate to my voting!!

General Discussion / Re: Common Objections To BitShares X
« on: September 15, 2014, 10:32:56 am »
"I am not going to download a software from the internet, enter a password into it and then entrust it with my lifetime savings."

I wonder this is likely one of the most important and more overlooked issues. The average Joe can't be trusted to make backups of wallets.. and likely knows enough not to trust themselves relative to hosting money in a computer on a product they cannot comprehend. A website option then and the importance of keeping the private key safe, might be a good option here. That perhaps also tempts the need for banks for private keys and other options for insurance relative to all cryptocurrency.

Products need to be foolproof not just fullproof..

Like that!  +5%

guys hello... not sure where to post this, perhaps have a look if that could be of interest to btsx team? apparently XRP is going up today because there is a speculation that City National Bank of US is playing with Ripple - look at the Golbal Strategy Session page 4

https://alliance.nacha.org/sites/alliance.nacha.org/files/files/Meetings%20website%20page/Agenda%20Structure%20for%20website.pdf
...

I don't know how anyone else reads this but they way I read this is that Ripple Labs, Fidor &  City National are each giving presentations during that session.  I'm not sure if it indicates that they are working together but that would be good to know.  Still interesting that Ripple is getting a seat at the table.

General Discussion / Re: How legal are DACs around the world?
« on: September 14, 2014, 01:53:35 am »

I am the legal expert here. (From now on!)

The DAC's are completely legal in the world!

In the world, where no countries exist!

How legal are the legal entities of 'states' / ' country'?;

What is the law the allowed them to exist?

Where is this 'earths constitution' that those states followed  to exist and be  'legal?

Ha, ha, that's great.   +5%

I agree that there could be a little bit more transparency, it has been asked numerous of times. But whenever I see or hear Brian talking I really get excited and he's not covering himself with technical jargon , just simple and easy to understand for everyone. Maybe in 10 years from now people would be talking about him with the same respect as Mr. Abraham mentioned earlier in this post. I think he deserves it. But again a weekly or bi-weekly report would be nice, i would be happy to send it out via DACZine.

That's good right?  Just suggesting Brian maybe can be the conduit to get him involved.

Yes but he should be approached with sufficient funds otherwise...but who knows worth trying.

and that is the problem. Me personally would rather see big names from other fields who genuinely believe that this works knowing
they can make tons more then a fixed deposit just to talk with them.

I agree with this.  I'm not saying this guy is like that but there are many of these types that are very long on seminars, books, coaching and testimonials and short on naming specific products/services they launched to the moon.  Again, not saying he's like that...but there is something to be said for a true believer who gets his reward through the results he produces.

Does he have any specific experience launching products or services in this space or in modern high-tech products or services that would be a good example to know what he can do?

General Discussion / Re: Decentralized VPNs
« on: September 13, 2014, 12:42:43 am »
We had a discussion somewhere (annot find it atm) about a DAC for TOR .. so that running a relay or exit node gets you paid some fees ... that would encourage people to run nodes an strengthen the network .. maybe you can find it with the search function ..

I think that would be neat. You know that people are building TOR alternatives on top of crypto currencies, right?

Darkcoin is one of them:

Quote

One of the future goals is to turn the masternode network into a decentralized business for masternode operators. To do this we’ll add features that improve the privacy of end users and compete with centralized businesses. Our first endeavor into this is to make a completely private tor network within Darkcoin.

The Darkcoin network will begin to offer anonymous internet access via the masternode network. As a user, all you’ll have to do is pay a fee for 24 hours of access. This fee will be paid to a masternode in much the same way the masternode fees are paid, using a deterministic algorithm for distributing the payments evenly across the whole network.

There’s a few benefits to running a private tor network through Darkcoin.
Sybil resistant - Due to the cost of obtaining masternodes, it will be very difficult for any one person to view all traffic.
Anonymous Payments - Users can pay anonymously for the service
Private Network - Our tor network will be internal to darkcoin only. All traffic will be paid traffic, so the cost of running the service should be profitable for the masternode operators.
Faster than tor - Tor has historically been very slow. This will be a lean version, that has much higher throughput.

As for the cost of the service we’re thinking $0.50 per day or something to that effect.

We’re still working on the details how this will function and this isn’t a feature that we’re absolutely set on. We’re very interested to get the community’s response to see if it’s viable .

More info here on Darkcoin TOR here: https://darkcointalk.org/forums/darkcoin-tor-network.56/
Also, their brainstorm of future projects.. I think there are some good ideas in there, but it is mostly the usual decentralized app ideas most ppl bring up: https://darkcointalk.org/threads/list-of-future-development-ideas.89/
with the fact that TOR has all ready be compromised what would be the purpose for using it at all?

I run a TOR relay but am no expert it the tech.  However, I don't think it's been compromised as a whole at all.  I know there have been few bugs here and there that were discovered and used by LEOs to their advantage and I know there are some unsafe practices with respect to how you use it when you access non TOR sites but I don't think it's compromised as a whole.

I think even Snowden, assuming he is credible, noted that NSA doesn't like TOR.

sorry a bit off topic

I really like the fact that you are accepting bitAssets,  maybe  we should have a section on the forum called  "trading place" or something, where we can all sell and  trade or order pizza  or Bitshares t-shirts using only bitAssets,  ???  :)
I have sold t-shirts useing the platform as a payment system(bitUSD). It was fast, secure and I could immediately convert it to btsx 8).  It also gave me a bit of a warm fuzzy feeling.

and I bought some of them.  Should arrive tomorrow or Monday. It was great to conduct commerce with BitUSD.  Maybe we do need a special place for it though.  That reputation system that BM was talking about would help as well.  I give Gentso1 my highest rating!

My basic proposal was to establish fund and ways to do it.
How about that?

Maybe pass his info to Brian and they can discuss.

You are not serious right? You know this guy is legend and just involving him in a project would be quite of a marketing move.
Only his name would attracted many business people, investors and entrepreneurs and you could imagine implications..

That's good right?  Just suggesting Brian maybe can be the conduit to get him involved.

We already have Brian Page and his team.

It is ok. Brain is doing his job fine. This guy gives gaudiness, advices, develops plans, suggest action plans, provides connections and
many more.
The reason you have not seen serious marketing yet is because the client is not yet 100% ready for prime time and the tweaks are still being worked out with the system. More marketing is usually a good thing so I'm open to your ideas, but as far as bringing in someone to handle marketing, we have a very capable person already.

I didn't said the time is now. Besides it takes time to organize the fund, to find the right guy, negotiate a dill and etc. The discussion needs time too. We should plan in advance.
Once again I didn't suggested replacement for Brian, he is doing his job fine.

Maybe pass his info to Brian and they can discuss.

It is still a bit rough around the edges even for experienced people here...but rapidly improving!!

I'm sure most would agree with the objective.  How to accomplish the objective is the big question.  Questions that come to my mind are:

1. What is the best technical approach ?
2. Are there any potential legal risks for delegates ?
3. How does this fit or not fit with what BM has planned?

Does anyone know what BM thinks about this?
