Stakeholder Proposals / Re: About wallet_publish_version command
« on: September 12, 2014, 04:39:42 pm »
That's nothing, the real cost is paying to update price feeds every 1% change over multiple currencies.  That's why the delegates get paid though right?  Even with an 80% burn rate I'm able to pay these transaction fees and still come out in the black long term so far.  Seems fair to me.

You can publish multiple feeds in a single transaction.
Oh excellent.  Not only will this reduce the cost to publish feeds but will also remove any potential incentive for delegates NOT to publish feeds on additional assets.  Thanks.

We making a push to get delegates to publish feeds for this?  As I understand it, it only makes sense if the market depth is there right?  Is the market depth there?

I'll add EUR to my price feed script as well.

General Discussion / Re: Is Anyone Still Holding Bitcoin?
« on: September 12, 2014, 03:11:48 pm »
Hmm I'm surprised so many here "divested" so completely from Bitcoin.  Probably a good move or at least has been short term.  If I had moved everything to AGS I'd be sitting on a ton of money worth of BTSX that's for sure, worth much more than my current BTC holdings.

I split off some of my BTC for investment in PTS and AGS though and any new money I put into crypto since beginning of the year has gone straight into other than BTC investments.

I'll probably continue to hold a small handful of BTC coins in cold storage.

Hello, my name is Alec Menconi.

I've been following Bitcoin for 2-3 years now and found out about Bitshares sometime around March.  I'm very excited about the possibilities Bitshares offers and that of DACs in general.  My other interests currently are following Storj and attempting to develop games for VR (I own both development kits for the Oculus Rift).  I live in the US in Arizona and have been there for 5+ years so far.

My day job consists mostly of ASP.NET C# MVC development and I've been working in the computer industry for close to a decade now.
Stack Overflow profile (not terribly active there unfortunately): http://stackoverflow.com/users/1763996/alec-menconi
LinkedIn profile: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/alec-menconi/47/685/a42

I wanted to thank everyone that voted for my delegate yesterday putting it in the top 101.  Unfortunately I was not expecting to get voted in so fast and I was experimenting with things with my client up and down so I missed a chunk of initial blocks, however after realizing I could produce blocks I've made sure the client stays online and active.

My delegate is up to date and is auto posting price feeds.  I currently have the pay rate set to 20%.  My philosophy here is that for now it is best to return the majority of fees back to the stake holders until the community matures and some consensuses emerge about how users would like their fees to be utilized.  If in the future it looks like a high burn rate is not desirable for whatever reason in relation to other options, I will create a new delegate to match the will of the stakeholders and ask that all votes be transferred to the new delegate.  I do not ever plan to have more than 1 active delegate at a time.

I'd like to help grow this community however I can so please reach out to me if you have a project in the works and are looking for some volunteers.  Also while I appreciate the importance of privacy I am willing to provide proof of who I am if anyone cares to ask for it.  Thank you for the support so far and I hope to continue producing blocks and staying involved with the community long into the future.

nice summary  +5% (+my votes  ;))
Thanks for the support liondani.

Sorry guys, missed some blocks due to the "100-year flood" in my area (http://samuel-warde.com/2014/09/phoenix-state-of-emergency/).

Usually power and internet availability is very good.  If problems continue I'll look to see about maybe putting in a longer battery backup or taking it off-site.
oh shit .. hope there are not too many injuries ..
Surprisingly few actually, reports of some deaths and injuries due to submerged vehicles being carried away but I think it could have been a lot worse.

keyID will crush this
Nice.  Can't wait to see it in action.

And still bitcoin lovers will still find a way to stomp all over it...so frustrating sometimes to watch them take all your hard work, implement inferior versions...tout them as huge advancements, and then discount bitshares as a scam.  Getting to the point where Bitcoin is only appealing as a gateway into bitshares...
I guess that makes sense if you're into Bitcoin for the "community" around it.  Unfortunately people that will FUD the hell out of anything they aren't invested in is pretty common and I think you'll find those people everywhere you go.  I think Bitcoin has grown out of the phase where the community is a small group of positive enthusiasts on the same page and has grown to attract some people you aren't going to agree with.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Delegate bitcube - Please vote for me :)
« on: September 07, 2014, 07:42:12 am »
Hello cube.

Thanks for posting here and getting involved.  Sounds like you've made great contributions to other areas in crypto-currencies in the past.

There is another post here that polls delegates with some basic questions, submitting your answers might encourage others to vote you in: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=7175.0

I'll toss some votes for you, but would like to know if you have any plans for the 80% pay rate funds you are keeping.  If it's just to pocket for yourself that is fine, but if you plan to fund things within the community that would be extra incentive for votes edging you over others that don't disclose the plans for their payouts.

Good luck!

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Criteria for selecting delegates
« on: September 07, 2014, 07:33:36 am »
Please add me to your list alphaBar, delegate alecmenconi.  If you'd like other verification provided then please ask.  My delegate name is just my first and last name.

Here is my introduction post: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8163.0

I fully support anyone that values their privacy and wants to keep their identity hidden.  Everybody can use the system anonymously but if enough people want verification of identities of their delegates then they will vote out those delegates unwilling to cooperate which also seems perfectly fair.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: How to become a delegate?

Awesome tips. I'm planning on getting into the delegate system and hope to contribute to shareholders with marketing materials and community developments. Any tips on this area?
Once the plans go through to give bitUSD holders interest and the market pegs have some history behind them, I think getting the word out about an investment that tracks the USD and gives decent returns will be a huge draw for some investors.

I've been researching and playing with the octuis rift SDK for a week now. I've also have my hands in the gaming industry. I'm more than willing to team up with you on some basis to grow a VR game. Are you open to teaming up and collaborating on such projects?

I've also been in the Bitcoin industry since 2012. Hope to hearing your thoughts about collaboration.
Hi AJ.  I'd love to team up on a collaborative project.

Unfortunately I think I broke my Rift in attempting to upgrade to the latest 2.12 firmware.  Initially got an error during firmware update (uninstalled previous runtime and installed latest before this).  It took me a lot of fiddling until powering off the Rift and back on again let me successfully upgrade the firmware, however now I get the "No device attached" error.

Though to be fair I'm early enough in the development process that having the Rift down will likely not slow me down much.

I have Unity Pro activated from my DK1.  I have some C# skills from using it for work for web development.  I'd be totally cool if you had a project in mind and wanted to take lead from a creative standpoint.

I think it's in my profile but feel free to hit me up at menconiusa@yahoo.com anytime to discuss what you'd like to collaborate on building.
