General Discussion / Naming of XT
« on: June 20, 2014, 05:28:49 pm »
Can we find consensus about NOT calling BitShares XT the _test_ of bitshares x buz maybe (as I read somewhere else)
BitShares eXchange Target

Calling it Testing too much implies a testnetwork worth nothing!

Discuss!

This series of articles/posts is intended to be an extensible work considering parts of DPOS/BitShares technically. If you feel something is missing just tell me and I will add it.
The goal is to have an article we can use to construct a FAQ for a technical description of the ecosystem.

Interesting quote:

NEM And The Altcoin Landscape

Unfortunately the altcoin landscape is currently plagued with cheap scams and elaborate pump and dump schemes along with a horde of impulsive people enjoying playing this game. However NEM has nothing to do with this landscape. While we may well go through a cambrian crypto-explosion phase, NEM seems to be already between the fittest and is only getting stronger every passing day.

I know things are more complex but for the sake of simplicity consider the following graph:

General Discussion / [BTT] Teaching Bitcointalk about TITAN?
« on: June 06, 2014, 09:31:11 am »
Hey friends,

with all the FUD around Darkcoin and Darksend (which is closed-source and uses coinjoin) we should
let bitcointalk users know about TITAN.

I propose to now draft a forum thread so that these guys can join the discussion.

The testnet now offers a chance to proof and show using practical
examples how TITAN works under the hoods!
I already wrote some lines summing up the development (mostly copy-paste from forum)

Let us please join efforts and pimp that article (you can do directly on the above webpage)

Thoughts?

Hey friends,

I am proud to present ThePad (tm) to you. It's basically a online-multiplayer notepad using HTML and Javascript. You can find it at:
I'd like you to see this page as a place we can use to collectivly contribute content to the BitShares economy. The site is hosted by me (xeroc) and can also be accessed using pad.xeroc.org. There is no relationship with invictus.

My Plans with this platform are as follow:
  • collect ideas for marketing, dacs, bounties, web articles, articles for the newsletter
  • I'd like to see content grow over there before publishing at blogs, press or conferences
  • we could even create content for several presentations useful for conferences, introductions, etc.
  • many more content based services (I will add any good idea to this list)

Currently existing articles with ongoing work:

An advantage of the software in place is that every single change can be reverted. Anything entered at any time is stored and can be access by the history (including a slider to see the authors typos ;-) )
If users vandalize content on purpose I might consider enabling a registered-only access-control.
Of course I am open for any comment.

One last thing: Please feel free to open up any new pad you think might contribute to the community.

General Discussion / Unleashing the community
« on: May 15, 2014, 07:14:13 pm »
Earlier today I was depating a little with CLains and I'd like you to participate in our thinkings.

We were thinking whether we could rent a community server and decouple the BitShares community from invictus to have a real independent economy. atm we are all looking towards Dan and the rest of the Invictus Team all managed by BM.

My proposal would be to
1) rent a v-server for a few bucks a month (for the time beeing a small machine should be enough)
2) get the subdomain community.bitshares.org point to that server
3) set up service:
  - etherpad for collaboration (ie, live editing of the wikipedia article, documentations, etc...)
  - podcasts
  - a community magazine
  - technical howtos
  - market analysis
  - possibly webwallet (once we have once)
  - block explorer
  - financal descriptions
  - etc (feel free to add anything to the list)
.. all under community control
... all under one domain
... all paid by ...
oh wait could setup a delegate to to earn money for the server. Maybe we can combine this with somthing like a community delegate (see https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=4582.0)

What do you think? Worth a shot?

BTW. you can check out etherpad @ pad.xeroc.org (I set it up today fo testing purpose)

General Discussion / A successful Git branching model
« on: May 07, 2014, 11:15:38 am »
Just found this on the web:
http://nvie.com/posts/a-successful-git-branching-model/

I describes a useful model on how to use branches efficiently with git. All you developers should read and consider it. I think the development can gain from it.
