So right now we have no real way to do affiliates as far as I remember.  (Please correct me if I am wrong)

So what would happen if the devs added a 2 byte field (65000 different marketers!) to every account registration transaction.  This affiliate_id is part of the json packaged with the executable.  So the executable just reads this value and it is put on the blockchain so it tells us that a certain marketer provided the source of the executable.

It is a scary idea because binaries are just such a bad idea these days. Having multiple sources acceptable is inviting some bad things to happen.  The best we can have the executable hashed.  That doesn't help everyone, but it lets technically proficient people catch malicious wallets.

The upside could be huge.  It opens up a huge vector for growth by affiliate marketers.  The system could be gamed, but the commissions could be paid in parts for a year according to balances.  Oh wait we're using TITAN.  Dammit I really liked this idea..  :(  It seems close to workable............

thoughts?  Has this already been suggested previously?

This was the mumble session held recently so that Dan could vocalize his thoughts and hopefully alleviate a lot of the misinformation floating about.

I know others have posted this already, but I am just trying to make it as obvious as possible given all considerations.

General Discussion / What should the various bitUSD's be named ?
« on: October 18, 2014, 06:17:12 pm »
There will be multiple bitUSDs from multiple DACs from outside and inside I3.  We know this.

So the question then becomes what is best naming system?

bitNOTEUSD ?   noteUSD  ?

On some level it would be nice to have them suggested as part of the bitshares family, but I don't think that can reasonably be done.  I assume the answer will be something like noteUSD/voteUSD/bitUSD/jdsUSD

My apologies to taoeffect.  This show went on longer than usual and I underestimated the proper time.  If you are interested in talking to him and his work on DNS DAC then pm me.

Ethereum replacement announced !!

In this Beyond Bitcoin Hangout dated October, 17, 2014.

0:00 Daniel Larimer starts out the show with us !
1:10 Why can't BitUSD hold a tighter peg ?  How does the spread and liquidity impact this ?
What is the risk to liquidity providers ?
5:51 What is the transaction fee for updating ?  An indepth discussion of bitUSD and market making continues.  Bytemaster explains why the lack of a large buy and sell wall does not mean that liquidity is lacking and why you are guaranteed to get full price within 15 or 30 days.
10:46 Discussion of release of the new market (gui?).  Bugs discovered and hardfork plans.
12:22 When will we see v 1.0 of Bitshares X ?
12:53 What about the mail system integration and how is that tied into the lightweight client ?
14:16 How about finding a credit union to hold their assets in bitUSD ?   Bytemaster talks about trying to discover how this aspect of credit unions are regulated in this area.
17:55 What about different jurisdictions that might be lighter on the regulations ?
18:18 Fuz talks about how the Phillipines is trying to create their own state sponsored crypto-currency.
20:54 What about the bond idea and exposure to counterparty risk ?
22:12 Do you think there might be an educational tool to show people they could skip the credit union ?
23:02 A user asks if every DAC should have a bitBTC or bitUSD for transactions ?
24:43 Dan announces that the Vote DAC will only have their own bitUSD.  The conversation gets very very interesting.  The Voting DAC is announced and where the direction with it may be going.  A direct competitor to Ethereum.
27:51 What exactly is proof of person about ?
30:02 How is the team managing all the new projects ?
31:43 What does Bytemaster see as his role as the new projects are created.
33:40 What about your financial vision that you baked into Bitshares X, Bytemaster ?
35:08 How do you get started if you wish to be hired by I3 ?
36:48 Is the killing of PTS proposal tied into this new Vote direction ?  What is the general direction of the Bitshares ecosystem ?
39:53 What makes a DAC a Proto-DAC ?
45:00 Dan, How do you recommend that a DAC developer receive donations to help with their endeavor ?
46:06 What about the new class of delegates ?  Technical versus business delegates that have different roles ?
52:06 What are some ideas that 3rd party devs could code up ?
56:10 Discussion of bitBTC used as a core asset instead of bitUSD ?
58:46 How do you convince a merchant to utilize bitUSD ?
 1:00:53 Discussion of cross-chain trading.
1:03:11 Brief explanation of the theory behind cross-chain trading.
1:07:34 Do you have backup speakers for when you are not available ?  Discussion of the value in Bitcoin conferences going forward and how they seem to have changed in the value they provide Bitshares.
1:10:20 What about Money 20/20 ?

Technical Support / Question about claiming DNS being reposted for vit0
« on: October 15, 2014, 02:47:32 am »

I have a problem while trying to claim DNS within KeyID.
As you wrote earlier, now my keyhotee founder ID is `vit0` (was `_vit0`).
I tried to import my PTS wallet and I wasn't able to do that because of error:

Code: [Select]
wallet_import_bitcoin d:\wallet_backups\backup_pts_14-10-2014.dat my_password vit0

18 aes_exception: AES error
error during aes 256 cbc decrypt final
    {"s":"error:06065064:digital envelope routines:EVP_DecryptFinal_ex:bad decrypt"}
    bitshares  aes.cpp:263 fc::aes_decrypt
unable to decrypt key
    {}
    bitshares  bitcoin.cpp:175 bts::bitcoin::decrypt

    {}
    bitshares  bitcoin.cpp:338 bts::bitcoin::import_bitcoin_wallet
error importing bitcoin wallet d:/WALLET~1/BAF04B~1.DAT
    {"wallet_dat":"d:/WALLET~1/BAF04B~1.DAT","account_name":"vit0"}
    bitshares  wallet.cpp:5514 bts::wallet::wallet::import_bitcoin_wallet

    {}
    bitshares  common_api_client.cpp:723 bts::rpc_stubs::common_api_client::wallet_import_bitcoin

    {"command":"wallet_import_bitcoin"}
    bitshares  cli.cpp:556 bts::cli::detail::cli_impl::execute_command

When I'm doing:
Code: [Select]

wallet_import_private_key
wallet_import_keyhotee Witold "" Mitoraj "My_brain_wallet_key" "vit0"
it outputs "OK" messages, but I still have 0 DNS on my account.

In "My Accounts" in my `vit0` account it is written that it was registered on 1st of October and it is strange because I was KeyhoteeID founder. I don't understand that.

Could you answer me why I cannot claim any DNS and import my PTS wallet into KeyID wallet?

BR, vit0.

I am not sure when he is going to be on.  We are shooting for next Friday the 24th of October but that may change.  So if you want to show up in person, next Friday's mumble session will likely be the day, but subject to change.  Actually this will be held at 2pm eastern.  Or one hour before the previous time.  There will be no regular hangout at 3pm eastern with Dan, as that will be in the morning at 9am eastern.

DNSChain (formerly DNSNMC) makes it possible to be certain that you're communicating with who you want to communicate with, and connecting to the sites that you want to connect to, without anyone secretly listening in on your conversations in between.

What is it?
  • DNSChain replaces X.509 PKI with the blockchain
  • Simple and secure GPG key distribution
  • Free SSL certificates become possible
  • Prevents DDoS attacks
  • Certificate revocation that actually works
  • DNS-based censorship circumvention
  • MITM-proof authentication via .dns metaTLD

Ask Daniel if he thinks I act like a gatekeeper keeping out projects that don't follow my every whim, I really think you just don't know what you're talking about and it's very easy for you to know for sure.  Ask them, that's what people who want to know the truth do.

Adam,

You are a gatekeeper.  Gatekeepers will often use a claim of quality control etc to deny others, but you're a gatekeeper.  It isn't bad.  Someone has to set standards.  Yet you are the gatekeeper about what show is allowed on the quite successful LTBNetwork and you've further centralized all this power with your coin.  It is actually all quite clever.  You control a lot of eyes with your network.  It is deserved.  You have a high quality standard with a very well done portal.  Not to mention your personal show is always very well done.

You declined bbx (mumble/dev hangout) in the past because you had some issue.  I agree a lot of bbx shows have not been very good and you could give me a list of things that are faulty.  I'd likely agree.  I don't put much effort into it.  I could put a lot more time into it, but I try to be effective given the time I am dedicating to it.

We're covering Dan and only Bitshares related stuff now.  I've ignored pms from people wanting to be on the show.  In this way the bbx show is also a gatekeeper, but we are laughable instead of formidable.

So here is my proposal for you.  Prove to us you are not a centralized gatekeeper.  We could come up with a few professional shows, but not anywhere near all of our shows.  Only the best ones that have had extra effort put into editing and good enough base content.  So you're only given shows at or beyond the level of quality seen on your network.  Your time will not be wasted with rubbish submissions from me.  If you decline it, well then it will be posted anyway.  We will take our toys and go home.

I understand that we receive value and I would be quite comfortable with you inserting ads in our show and keeping revenue.  I would just like to see the content receive more ears.  Your network would receive an occasionally great show.

I'm 100% sincere in this.  There is no being snarky in this post.  If you aren't a centralized gatekeeper then it seems straightforward that you would agree to do this.  Our show has never been used as a platform to espouse anti-LTBNetwork or anti-Adam sentiment. We have the same passions about the space as you, Adam.

Sincerely,
Gamey

General Discussion / Thoughts on the bump threads ?
« on: October 11, 2014, 04:02:23 am »

Ok so there are 3 in here.  Reddit/bitcointalk/other media.

Bitcointalk needs its own because not everyone even has a bitcointalk account.  I believe you need to lurk 4 hours just to post.

However, there are other threads floating about for reddit.  I hate to ask people to stop those threads and in a lot of ways they might have visibility that the TASKFORCE threads don't.  However having everything in one spot for those times you want to sit back and contribute a bit of time to viral marketing - it is all right here.

Thoughts ?  I'm thinking I should just delete the reddit one in here.

General Discussion / Bitcoin at $330 ?
« on: October 04, 2014, 06:16:16 pm »
Geez $330.  This is not good for the crypto world.  Maybe it makes us stand out as we hold value, but the crypto/blockchain scene as a whole is going to take a hit.  Not to mention how much AGS value I3 has lost for development.  Think of Ethereum etc who had a lot in BTC.  It is kinda sad, not as many nerds going to get paid jobs getting to do neat stuff. :(  We might get a short term boost but I have a hard time seeing this being longterm positive.

We're even under 60 million on coinmarketcap.

When will it stop and we see a legit rebound ?

I'm going to feel like I'm sticking my tongue out at anyone @ inside bitcoins by wearing Bitshares X related shirt.  Usually people are sad at the end of their Vegas trip, not sad going into it like the people attending Inside Bitcoin.  I guess this will help us sell our product though ?

Right now this is being done on an experimental basis with some helpful Chinese guys.  I've transcribing part of the show now because it has been requested to aid in translations.  The part that is transcribed is what I think is the most important and highest level information.  I won't be transcribing highly technical questions etc because it is simply too much work.

So I was doing this in private, but I think making it as a TASKFORCE is useful because we might find a volunteer for other communities that do not have a large percentage of English speakers.  It also provides some of the transparency and highlights the global community building that is going on with Bitshares.

Well welcome to the Task Forces forum.  The idea here is that you can help a task-force by clicking on the thread, and reading the last few posts to see what and where your posting is requested. (As an example)  One sub-forum where we try to keep all things where community can help in one place.  It will not just be posting elsewhere, but all manner of help.

The idea here is to enable community effort (crowd-sourcing).  Perhaps you are bored one night and instead of reading your regular Saturday Evening Post, you decide to post on your Saturday evening about Bitshares X !  Well how do you find where to post ?  That is the problem we are trying to solve without a 3rd party site.

I would create more TASKFORCE threads, but I am hoping to start seeing the current ones adopted a bit more.

Everyone is encouraged to create TASKFORCE threads if they can think of something that needs to be done and what step 1 is.  This is the only requirement.  The step could be "join my facebook group".  "Research X & Y".  "Help me edit my bitshares paper at http://googledocs"  I just want every thread to have a call to action of some form that is actionable or have it marked [CLOSED].

Rules to maintain value and order :)
-------
For the top most forum I want only threads that each have one TASKFORCE or some other community endeavor.  It doesn't even need to be named TASKFORCE.  The idea is to have a list of threads each with its own purpose and approach.

In bump/upvote threads, I ask that you only post bumps or upvotes.  I will readily delete posts that do not obey this rule and send annoying pms politely asking you to not do it in the future.

Other taskforces will have discussions about what people need to do.  That is fine.  It really is up to the person who creates the TASKFORCE how they wish to organize it.  Their general rules and info should be put in the OP. Private groups will need to be organized elsewhere, but a TASKFORCE can be created her asking people to contact the organizer (for example).

If you are not sure what the first step is and have no plan, then perhaps start a discussion elsewhere.  Once you have it figured out, create TASKFORCE thread that has instructions and your general rules and expectations for the thread.  If your thread grows too big and spans multiple subjects we can have a sub-forum made for your taskforce.  BE THE FIRST !

Last rule is have fun.
