This is a catch all for any request.  Maybe a thread on letstalkbitcoin.  Perhaps one of the lesser crypto sites.  Bitcointalk and reddit both have specific needs so they get their own TASKFORCE (lol).  Everything else falls in here.  If you are selling bitshares and want followers on twitter, post a request in here.

Again, please keep chatter down.

General Discussion / Please give feedback .. suggestions..
« on: September 25, 2014, 01:35:51 am »

I want feedback.  This is kinda a weird thing.  It works in my mind, but it is yet another "experiment".  I hope we can get it to work.  So I'm going to flesh it out the way I see it in my head and I'd love to get feedback.  +5%s are good :)  -5%'s are good too :(  Either way!

48
This taskforce is for those people who have more of a trading background or feel comfortable interacting with traders.

Forum list -
  • elitetrader

At this point I've only been suggested "elitetrader" by someone.  Post in here any forums or social media we should utilize to target day/commodities traders.

This will not be pursued until GUI is refactored, but is in preparation stage.

49
  • Post here if you see anything that is out of date on the wiki at wiki.bitshares.org.  If you wish edit access, request it from me and it will likely be granted.
  • Post here if you see anything out of date on bitshares.org (although not many people can modify bitshares.org feel free to request.)
  • Post requests for additional non-existent info on either wiki.bitshares.org or bitshares.org.

Damn this is long, but this is not a real simple process.  If you have interest in this please read.

So if you care about the history of this discussion look at thread https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=7255.0 & https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9036.0.   I was trying to decide between trello, asana, or continuing use of the forums.  Then GodsCreation volunteered but has had some level of second thoughts.  (Which is fine, I find myself with too any projects sometimes)

So I decided to go back to Asana/Trello but I am not happy with either.  After discussing with Delulo we came up with list of requirements.

Ability to create “Task-forces”.
Ability to create tasks.
Ability to be notified by email. - mainly for things like a reddit bump team.
Bounties posted.
Ability to close tasks.
Task-forces which are private so people can have frank discussions etc.

Examples of task forces – Pointing out wiki being out of date and correcting it.  Reddit bump team, Trading forum posting group, etc.  I doubt there would be ever more than 5 active ones.

After looking around at Trello and Asana neither made me happy.  I think they are great for top down led organizational stuff, but I'm not sure we need it.  I don't want to be the leader and I don't think MarketDirector does.  All external services have some learning curve for everyone involved.  I had been suggesting we stick with forums because to me it seems to be the same thing, lists of lists, but I really was looking for feedback as this needs to be first and foremost a community.

Problems with forums is that there is no real structural enforcement of the process.  So that means we have to come up with some rules.  Once we do that, I think the forums will pretty much do everything.

First we create a “Task-forces” top level forum.  I thought about merging it with bounties but bounties might be pushed off page.  If rules are enforced though the chatter could be low enough to have “Bounties and Task-forces”.   Either way, from inside that forum we have our community organization process.

Requirements for community organizational process and how they are solved by forum.

Ability to create Task-forces. - Yes, as a thread.  If task-force grows, subforum can be created and use threads in there as sub-tasks.
Ability to create tasks  Yes – Create another thread within the task-force forum.
Ability to be notified by email. - mainly for things like a reddit bump team.  Yes – click on notify button on thread.
Bounties posted – Use existing bounties forum.
Ability to close tasks – Yes click on “locked” and re-title it [CLOSED] at the start
Task-forces which are private so people can have frank discussions etc. - Not sure about this.  This requires someone to manage permissions etc.  Also not sure what capabilities stock SMF has.

The main thing is that we enforce no noise on the forum so that people can go there and directly find something to do.  There will be no discussion threads.  Those can be held elsewhere.  Possibly a subforum.  The idea is to make the top “taskforces” thread have only threads that have DIRECT PLANS of action.  If you want to ask about working on something, or starting up a task for, then you would start that conversation elsewhere.  Then once you felt comfortable with it, then you post a thread in the Task-force forum.  No proposal threads, no discussion threads.  Just taskforces who have a task force or tasks themselves.

This can work quite well.  For example, visit the https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9174.0 thread. You can click on “notify” for example if you would like to actively help Bitcoin people see the light via forums/social media.  By actively modding

So the idea is like the thread above, but done on a new parent level forum.  Organization tools are pretty much just lists of lists of lists.

PLEASE comment on this.  This would require a change to the top level of the forums and clutter the frontpage even more.  The positive side is that the task-forces and even the whole process can be readily moved from the bitsharestalk to elsewhere.

Some awkward editing, but there is a lot of random problems involved with this free flow format.  Adam K. Ernest visits with us and gives us the low down on the Follow My Vote DAC from followmyvote.com.

I forgot to run a leveler/compressor.  So the audio leveling is a bit off.  I forget doing this stuff in a rush to get it out the same day.

Next step I need to translate some of the audio to text and hopefully we can get a shortened version available for our Chinese friends.

0:00 Adam K. Ernest with Follow my Vote gives an introduction.
1:35 What about identities ?
3:05 Potential partnering with the government using existing existing voter registration ID.
4:30 Users should be able to audit their own votes online.
5:33 Will the DAC being distributed, remove voting locations ?
7:00 Is there a reason you are going with a decentralized version as opposed to centralized ?
7:36 What various platforms do you have to compile for if you are using existing voting solutions ?
8:27 Senate Bill 360 in California has opened up California to seek out providers of open source software for elections.
10:33 What in your background led you in life to pursue this project ?
12:11 Do you have plans of changing distributing power down instead of up by opening up voting ?
14:24 Discussion of “liquid democracy”.
15:12 Brent from canonizer talks about Canonizer taking over North Korea.
16:23 Adam Ernest gives a bit of his background leading up to his current direction. California Association of Voting Officials - The guys who have been huge advocates in opening p voting
22:28 Talk of a demo and time-frame.
23:14 How do you make it easy to use ? What is your approach for users not familiar with computers ?
24:54 Thoughts on voter apathy ?
28:49 More talk of a liquid democracy and having the ability to delegate votes to representatives for less important issues.
30:34 What is the for profit funding model ?
33:08 What about storing fingerprints on the blockchain ?
34:23 Ideas on identification outside of blockchain.
36:30 What about using the voting DAC for smaller elections not necessarily government ? Talk about how it could be a Facebook login.
38:48 Could the identity functionality be used for signing documents ?
39:36 How about write-in candidates? How do you determine who is on the ballot ?
40:54 How this could lower barrier of entry as a candidate ?
42:11 Adam K Ernest asks for feedback or questions at adam@followmyvote.com
43:00 How will this be funded and marketed ?
44:03 How about putting it outside US market ?
45:19 Adam K. Ernest is done talking. Discussion changes to the market cap of BTSX vs other Bitcoin 2.0 projects and BTC.
48:15 Thoughts on Ethereum.

General Discussion / [CLOSED] version 0.2 of DNS/KeyID Genesis info.

This is a global list.  If you are not included then CREATE a delegate on BTSX.  All this means is you register an account and pay for them to be a delegate.  Do not make requests in this thread, they will be ignored.

If you find an error or a problem then post in this thread explaining why.  Any founder ids can request to have their publickey changed or name changed in this thread.  No one else please.

No sub accounts from btsx are allowed and TLDs are stripped out of the delegate names.

For the v1 thread with the TLD list etc, go here https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8784.0 to read it.

Beyond Bitcoin [closed] / Dev hangout from 8-29 posted.
« on: September 18, 2014, 05:47:45 am »
I got to this one a bit late.  It wasn't as important as others, but I did get it done with some light editing and  annotations.  This one has a few members talking about various projects/suggestions.  It is more of what one might expect from a hangout.

https://soundcloud.com/beyond-bitcoin-hangouts/beyond-bitcoin-community-dev-hangout-2014-08-29

This Beyond Bitcoin Show is a bit different. Usually Dan Larimer is around for the first hour. In this show he makes a brief appearance with the rest of the show made up of members for the Bitshares community talking about their various projects and ideas.

This show starts out with Itnom talking about his plans on creating a wallet for BitUSD and a wallet.
1:45 What is the flow for the using the wallet ?
5:27 Dan Larimer appears ! Talk about market makers and introduction of trusted price feeds.
13:17 Best practices on Delegates and what is their role ?
16:34 Suggestions for beyondbitcoinx pairing technical guys who will run delegates with other partners
17:45 Dan departs to fix bugs.
18:15 Itnom starts talking about Bitsapphire and their projects that are in the pipeline.
19:00 Itnom talks about his delegate and how the forum supports it. Plans for a bridge between SMF forum and Discourse. Itnom also talks about his wallet.

48:20 What is the state of Gingerbreadman’s company? It is just a concept ? Or has it been implemented.
51:20 Fuz talks about beyondbitcoinx.net’s concept created by jabbajabba meant to aid delegates and the BItshares ecosystem. Low barrier to entry journalism.
54:30 Talk about a centralized database that has a wide range of criteria to help select delegates. Possibly creating a JSON feed to be used by other sites. Do you wait for delegates come to you to give their info, or do you create it yourself ?
1:05:45 Talk about setting up a delegate utilizing beyondbitcoinx and how it will work.
1:10:37 Gamey describes how an authorative list of delegates helps the Bitshares ecosystem. Security and increased Delegate awareness.

So it is safe to assume that we really need to approach active traders.  Specifically those who are inclined towards early adoption.

At one point I created a list of trading forums, but they are not sorted that well.  I expected to pull alexis data for each forum/row to sort by so the group could prioritize.  So many forums have anti-spam measures that it might be difficult to post on some.  This is just what my intention was, I think there are other ideas beyond "post on forums".  Lets hear them, please !

I think we need to find people who are open to novel ideas like BTSX. It really takes a certain mindset.  Early-adopters.  How do we target these people ?

55
Some of this has moved to the TASKFORCES section.  I will keep this as a list of resources that need to be updated.  If you are looking for something to do, please visit the Taskforces forum and pick something !

I will edit this at the request of the community.  This is a first edition.  Initially it was only going to be requests for grassroots and active grassroots campaigns but I decided to make a list of other Bitshares resources.  Post in this thread to have anything added (or removed?) from this list.  Also the "official" part in the title is a joke to grab eyes :)

Currently there are some things that need to be added.  A Bump list, list of trading forums to interact with, etc.  However I think we're waiting for BTSX to stabilize a bit before we reenter active marketing.

Also a lot of the links are ancient but if they had a novel idea or whatever, I leave it in the list.  There are numerous threads out there I have missed so please point me to them.

7:30 Is there a separate positive and negative balance? Hows the reputation burn system work? Top 10 List Scammer List to be the frontpage.
10:00 How this burning reputation overlaps with the needs of a company like Overstock.com and their possible need to remove stocks from circulation in a provable way.
12:15 Dan announces the messaging system that will be built-in to btsx that will be email like and how this ties into lightweight clients that do not need to scan the whole blockchain. Dan explains how it facilitates multi-sig transactions using this communication system.
13:48 Isn’t this like bip 70 in Bitcoin ? The Payment Protocol by Gavin Andresen ?
17:09 Talk about how there will be the ability to have public accounts.
18:33 What was meant by 5,10, 20 custom assets ?
19:50 Is there a plan for bringing new markets into btsx ?
20:15 Minutes of chaos edited out, but a small sample left in show at request of Fuz. ;)
21:16 Is there any effort by the team to help bootstrap markets ? More talk of BitUSD5+ and freicoin.
25:58 BitUSD20 lands in an interesting spot and how it varies from BitUSD5. How this might be able to be used to find the proper percentage.
28:33 Dan mentions bitsharesblocks.com and how he is excited to see more block explorers.
30:30 How the bot is only to create liquidity and not speculate.
31:30 Why use different categories of BitUSD ? 5,10,20 etc? Why not use a bond market ? A very technical discussion on market mechanics and what he expects to happen with the new yield system. The bot is further explained
37:00 What about the barrier to entry by the high fee charged in BTSX for asset listing ?
38:45 Will the meta-data have a public and private standard ?
41:17 What about delegates having anonymity versus publicly identified delegates.
43:20 Do we have enough delegates ?
44:24 Has any consideration been given to paying people who are standby delegates ?
46:35 A question on clarification on voting with slates. Dan talks about how slates impact privacy.
51:50 Delving into the mechans of the delegate slate voting system.
52:45 Do the features from the voting DAC overlap with voting in BTSX and the bitshares toolkit ?
54:05 What do people get by agreeing to social consensus and giving 20% to AGS/PTS ? What would happen if people ignored AGS/PTS ? What is Bytemaster’s opinion on competition ?
1:06:31 What will the lightweight client be like ?
1:09 Dan Larimer departs back to doing development !
1:09:23 Brian Page starts to talk about the marketing efforts and the big Inside Bitcoin conference being held in Las Vegas in October. Brian also talks about going to the Bitcoin job conference looking for web developers with AngularJS experience. The audio issues return. :)

General Discussion / [ANN] OFFICIAL KeyID/DNS DAC Genesis block v 0.1
« on: September 11, 2014, 07:38:08 pm »
VERSION 0.1
The full list is found at http://pastebin.com/6WJLZhXD

2 columns,  KeyID and Public Key to claim ownership of KeyID

Things I need to do/double-check

1) double check the output (seems like maybe it is a bit small... but likely correct after removing sub accounts)
2) chase down bytemaster's public keys.
3) Possibly remove offensive names or a cursory attempt at least.
4) I need to re-add founder ids that were removed due to TLD conflict.
5) add alts special request + others

General Discussion / Sources of material explaining BitAssets in detail ?
« on: September 08, 2014, 08:28:27 pm »

So my problem is I'm still a bit confused as how everyone has the potential to make $, where the interest in the rewards program comes from, maybe a few other areas.  I also suspect the wiki needs improvement.  So while not committing to personally coming up with a better resource I am trying to request a link to every quality post/resource be posted in this thread.  Maybe there is something out there that we can start with?  So much going on, it is easy for things to slip by.

I'll start out with the post below.  We also have the wiki, and there was a thread full of analogies but analogies only go so far.  I want to create a resource that reassures people how BitUSD works.  Before that I'd like to create a resource list that everyone can use to explain how the creation of polymorphic digital assets work.  :D

(TBI = To Be Included)

TBI - Thread of analogies
TBI - Specific audio portions from Dan's chats.

No intro.  Gave it up for now.  Lighter editing and not necessarily as good as before.  I don't think it matters because this stuff is on spot.  If anyone is curious about the market peg, and what is the most up to date discussion on the mechanics, then listen etc. I want to hype but I think this should speak for itself.

General Discussion / Campaign for charity to receive btsx/bitUSD.
« on: September 05, 2014, 08:53:46 pm »
During the Mumble session Xeroc explained his problems with wanting to balance transparency with possibly a little exposure when paying out his donations.  Really the problem is that there is no one taking btsx or bitUSD.  We need a solid donation point that we can be involved around.

I know of Sean's Outpost.  Maybe we could get them to publicly take BTSX, maybe not.  I think it would be better if it wasn't Sean's Output, but maybe that would be positive ?  The organizations have to be small enough to want to work with us, so we can't choose some huge organization with layers of management.  Charities for things that people love.  Saving puppies and kids is a start.

I personally have no suggestions and don't even like to suggest things.  Charity can also attract people who are not sincere.  Anyone know of anyone personally involved in a small worthwhile charity?

Anyone guess how much much we could put together ?  Would it just be a big fail when we come up with $200 between everyone after weeks of begging ?  thoughts ?
