General Discussion / BitShares' Political Defense
« on: September 27, 2015, 08:37:07 pm »
On the 09/25 mumble session, bytemaster mentioned the importance of defense mechanisms for a distributed, digital asset exchange.  Paraphrasing what I believe I picked up, on the technical side, a network such as BitShares should be sufficiently decentralized to prevent very easy physical attacks, but the technical defenses may not be sufficient if BitShares is not sufficient in it its political defenses.  To increase political defense, it was suggested that the "mob" or large group of people find lots of value in the network; to the point that, if the the network were shut down, it would have large negative effects for the group who shut down the network.  I bring this up again to ask, how can we most easily and quickly increase our political defense?

One way BM outlined to increase political defense is by increasing the number of consumers using/loving bitshares-based apps.

Other than successful applications, are there any other ways we might increase Bitshares defense?  I have a feeling there could be some "growth-hacks" in this regard, such as putting a celebrity in charge of proxy or witness positions, but I am curious to hear what others took away from that discussion.

General Discussion / Re: Bring Bitshares 2.0 smartcoin tech to Greece ASAP.

+5% +5% to luckybit for discovering these things!!

I will speak with liondani and contact them.

In the meantime I want to play the devils advocate a little bit:

1) Why would this specific company be interested in bitshares and use biteur? They have already their monetary system 1TP = 1 euro. Simple and easy and no technical skills whatsoever.

2) Why a LETS company would want to use bitshares and not just a simple trading  point system? Please list a couple of arguments..

3) How can no technical guys who don't know and don't want to know about shorting biteur to themselves would be able to find biteuros?
How the liquidity problem of bitassets can be solved?
They will need external partners providing the biteur liquidity right? Do we have anyone in mind?

4) What can we offer as a community to technically help a company like this or any other LETS company?

These are the questions that we need to have answers I think in order to present bitshares and bitassets to any company..

Perhaps begin by lightly asking them where their pain points are.... then you'll know the answers to your questions..... Part of the sales process.....

Don't forget to ask any questions or post any concerns for tomorrow's hangout!

Missed BunkerDEX .. which is along the lines of Openledger and Banx (also missing?)
There is also wallet provider Peak Performance?
They all are licensed by CNX.

After this week I can tell you there will be a few more to add to that also that have not been made public.

Awesome! ..... I'll add em

I am quite sure Ethereum has some nice projects too that should be added here .. though, since BitShares and Ethereum are not connected (yet) .. You may want to put their ecosystem into a separated sheet.
Else, the gfx is quite nice ..

I agree ... there's a whole other ecosystem there .... that would potentially link in a mature ecosystem... will see about adding some space to this doc ...

Today I drew up some mind maps on the state of BitShares and the ecosystem basically as a vision check, and I'm publishing the first one here to see how far I am from clear vision.

What business categories or major companies in the 2.0 space would you add to this?

« on: September 21, 2015, 03:38:12 am »
For an upcoming presentation, could anyone assist me find screenshots of the following applications that plug into Graphene blockchains:

Graphene test net markets,
Bitshares 2.0 markets (if available?)
DacX's markets or wallet,
Open Ledgers markets,
Play's wallet or games,
El Mato's mobile wallet, and
Any other application that plugs into a Graphene blockchain.

Thanks in advance!

So this is for driving consumers to the bitshares webwallet, could the offer potentially include other apps too?

General Discussion / Re: Test GUI for Normal Users!

I was able to open an account when the thread was started. It's very impressive.

My only criticisms are that it's too fast and too user friendly  :P

General Discussion / Announcing Brownie Points (BROWNIE.PTS)
« on: August 14, 2015, 11:46:57 pm »
I would like some brownie points please [emoji1].  I am working on bringing VC and partners to CMX.  I once tried to create a BitShares blog.  I put my savings into AGS and PTS in 2013 and have only bought more BTS since. Looking forward to the adventures to come.

The whole thing is slick and looks like it could get a jumpstart on BTS UIA's.

The "short token" is the most interesting thing here, I think.

Wondering if their tech stacks up though.

I like it.  No MPAs or referral program, which are bigger growth products than UIAs imo.

I disagree. Byrne is appealing to the financial industry, securing partnerships with broker dealers and going through the regulatory process. Their using UIA's for securities, where as we are using them for tokens. Its not the same thing.

Referral program isn't going to take off as much as people think and MPA's are really only for the crypto community, which generally doesn't appreciate them because BTS isn't BTC and as such is an inferior collateral.

I'm all for Byrne bringing the tech to the regulated world.  However, he is not selling all the tech and apparently he has not brought the more disruptive tech, MPAs & decentralization, to the table.

MPA's are for the crypto community at the moment.  Improvements to digital wallets and ease-of-use to the level of current online banking are needed to bring things mainstream.  Tons of useful applications for MPAs long run though.  Also optimistic about the referral program, which in theory provides an additional revenue stream to real world businesses without implementation costs.  Guess we'll have to wait for 2.0 though.
