General Discussion / Re: bitAsset FIAT Gateway
« on: April 30, 2015, 10:25:36 am »

Can you imagine if we had some sort of affiliate system where gatewasy would have had a bigger financial incentive to integrate and take on the trouble of figuring it out?

I still think that we should keep the conversation on the affiliate reward going because that would make the conversion MUCH more profitable for them and an easier sell for us.

Why can't we vote in delegates for them like we have done for BTC38 and others?

See: holytransactions.

Do you not think an affiliate system offers more direct benefit to the entrepreneur?

...and here we all are sobbing like babies :D

It would be nice instead to have a simple set of milestones to point at. Something simple like http://maidsafe.net/roadmap would be ideal.

Milestones; a list of what is unique; coupled with both a mission statement and a vision statement. I don't know, why we don't have those already - front and centre. There's no point in pulling punches in a competitive market. Perhaps it doesn't matter and the market caps are an illusion but it would be nice to make the most of simple opportunities where there exist.

We are preparing a list of milestones with achievable dates.

I like the idea of appeasing our fellow early adopters with a roadmap and marketing it to others.  However, it's a fine line to create a roadmap that cannot pigeon hole developers nor reveal the competitive edge. Anything else is taking on a large risk.

General Discussion / Coinmarketcap 8th place Bitshares 8,5m

Agreed, I only see BitShares growing, more wallets coming out and a lot of good news. Bitcoin and all the alts are down too, we're not alone.
I'm buying BTS as fast as I can afford it too, this is one investment in my life that I refuse to miss out on.

You only agree because that is what you WANT it to do. You know nothing about what the future will bring. Everybody has been saying the exact same thing despite all the so called past milestones that have been reached. And look  where BTS is. It is collapsing, not growing. Users are leaving, internal market volume is shrinking, market cap and market share are shrinking....

I'm translating all of Max's videos right now too, plus I am creating open source subtitles files that can be translated into any language.

If I get voted in as a Delegate and can go full-time, then I'll be able to push Max's videos and the Wikipedia page I'm working on and such to every country on earth...

If you get voted in, you can go full time? Really? Do you know how much a full time delegate pays in real world cash right now? Practically nothing. Or is your productivity contingent on a delegate and not time or interference with your real day job. As in this is your hobby and you want to get paid to do your hobby?

I'm watching our volume and new user count more than anything. Software just sits there if we don't get the word out.

Can you provide numbers to back what you say above? If you can provide numbers then make a thread based on those numbers and no one can disagree. Numbers don't lie.

Here are some telling numbers... I clicked a random page to see the number of new users on this forum in the past on a given day, I happened to click this date https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?action=mlist;sort=registered;desc;start=1080 from January, the entire page is filled up with new forum members from a single day. On the other hand, click most recent https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?action=mlist;sort=registered;desc;start=0 and it takes more than a week to fill up a page of new members.

We used to get a lot more fake accounts too...

General Discussion / Re: inside bitcoins NYC
« on: April 29, 2015, 05:09:14 pm »

Who is going? Monday through wednesday. Maybe we can have an alternate meetup to talk about next generation blockchain apps instead of hearing about basic use cases of bitcoin again...  http://insidebitcoins.com/new-york/2015/agenda
so? how is it?
is it as "bad" as described here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/349x4h/inside_bitcoins_nyc/
or could you make some good contacts?

Went for the pre party on Monday - enjoyed the free drink and toast....

There were some other talented coders from several projects but none I met who had pegged assets or decentralized exchanges on their radars.

Buying BitUSD == Selling BTS

I'm not too good with all the mechanics of the proposed bitasset 3.0 system, but does this mean that BitUSD demand will no longer positively correlate with a higher BTS valuation?

Buy BitUSD with BTS = Selling BTS = internal demand for BitUSD , so it's not positive on BTS .

Buy BitUSD with fiat or BTC = external demand for BitUSD , good for BTS .

Im pretty sure that's how it works today.  So the value proposition for Bts from bitassets hasn't changed?

General Discussion / Re: ALL TIME LOW .
« on: April 26, 2015, 08:11:57 pm »

summer?Means nothing will happen on bitshares this 3-5months.
sell signal.
you never have anything positive to say.  troll troll troll.
you're not an investor, you're a complainer.
We reach 0.0265cny now, seems will go down further.

Look at the price.Who wants to buy more ?everytime we reach a new low,i am sure there will be some guy jump out and say "GREAT TIME TO BUY,I WILL BUY MORE MORE PRECIOUS  BTS.."
you pathetic poor guys.

Bitshares is the best protocol at present. The constant changing is what is causing problems.  So I hodl.

I feel this is half-right, but it's the nature of the change that is important. In fact I believe constant change is absolutely necessary to becoming the best we ever can be.  I think what is causing sentiment problems is the lack of a map. It's hard for people to see a clear direction. Without a clear map of what system design we are shooting for, and how each component will ultimately fit into it, the risk is that those changes can appear reactive and undirected.

I do agree with you but id make it even simpler.   Just have a plan and stick to it.  The delegate system allows us to find consensus in ways other cryptos can only dream of having. DPOS is the only one out there.

I tend to agree with you though on this topic and others..

Without reiteration businesses fail.

The direction we're going creates a more open platform with more options and gets rid of nothing.  I don't understand how people are getting so fearful from this.

Change is necessary and has always been.

An all inclusive network effect creates more value than several smaller network effects with as many users in total. That's why we are seeing gravitation towards not having multiple chains.  Same phenomenon happened with search engines.  I know things are moving fast, but reiteration is the nature of early businesses, without reiteration we stand to fail.

The dwindling interest can be attributed to a number of things:

Mainly the merger  dilution/distribution and inflation
The alienation of Adam B. Levine and Charles H.
and
The constant pivoting and changing.

I challenge you to go back and read the OG whitepaper, not the new one and compare the ideology and goals, ie the "axioms" part, and tell me how far away we are from that original idea because of the pivots and lack of progress. That is why the waining interest in  bitshares continues.

So you are proposing we do the following:

1) return to deflationary model
2) stop pivoting / changing
3) Bring Adam B. Levine back into the fold

If that is what you want then I think everyone will be very happy with what we are working on and will announce this summer.

Newmine.. just got served lol

Um, no almost the opposite actually.

Depends how you look at it.  You're a market price guy so we never seem to agree, esp in the bear markets.

Have any BitShares devs played with the Ethereum code base?  What were their takeaways relative to BitShares?

Not enough data and too many variables for any significant correlations

General Discussion / Re: A Toast to Toast

At this point I WOULD like to sell note on the Bitshares blockchain.
What's stopping you?  NOTES are in the internal market.

Sorry I worded that wrong.

Hopefully Note will stay on the Bitshares blockchain and not create its own chain.

Agree - better for both parties

I also can't get in on Fridays due to work and gotta say it's tough not being there.  Anyway we can get the raw?  Seems like delegate pay could
subsidize it

General Discussion / Re: [FYI] Just get e-mail from Ripple
« on: April 14, 2015, 09:05:18 pm »
That said, I have the distinct feeling that Ripple is going to go a vastly more restrictive route than our proposal.

Does Ripple have a decentralized exchange?

180

Based on everybody's feedback so far we've put together e redesign of our website and upgraded the donation flow.

To make sure everything is working correctly we'll pause the donation drive for a few hours.

In other good news, we'll put up MOONFUND tokens at 0.9 to BTS on the internal exchange today (Sunday).

Thanks everybody for your great feedback! Keep an eye out for some good news!

Nice! Thanks! Why not at 0.85 (15% rate)?

Right now I see the order at 0.870 BTS
https://bitsharesblocks.com/asset/orderbook?asset=MOONFUND
0.87 is as close to 15% as it gets (1/0.87 is 14.94%) - What I mean is they never promised 15% discount they promised 15% return.

So, basically they have changed all to what I initially wanted them to do - 1. offer the return in BTS (not USD); 2. Doing their funding in a may that has the least negative effect on the BTS price. (i.e. IOU priced in BTS not in BTC; selling the IOUs in BTC required the sell of BTS first before sponsoring their project, in the most likely cases).

The only questions remaining are: 1. Why the need to start doing it the wrong way and change midway through the process 2.At what time frame they will need to convert to actually fiat (hopefully many months, but pretty likely more than the remaining 27 days) 3.Will they actually meet the 130K USD goal 4. How long its gonna take to repay the amounts collected.

And Will enough funds be used in their wallet to get the delegates elected?
